Taking over the school
During the school holidays we were able to take over the school. The children were able to explore the gym, go through the gully and go on nice long walks enjoying the big open spaces.

Our clay creations Rita has created a wonderful art experience for the children using clay, wire and beads. The children were able to sculpt, form and design using many different elements. These were left to dry before being sealed with PVA glue or glitter paint. If you see one belonging to your child in the foyer please feel free to take it home.

Uniforms Don’t our new shirts look lovely. We hope you are happy with the change, as the new colour will be able to be kept more stain free!! Could we please remember that we have to keep to the uniform at all times. This is the ACG polo shirt, navy pants/skirt/shorts and a navy jersey. We are getting lots of different variations presently.
Pouches We as a team have been reviewing the use of the food pouches and wanted to share with you what we have discussed as a team. Research has shown that the use of the pouch is becoming the new way to feed children with the pouch taking over 70% of the baby food section at the supermarket. While it is an easy and convenient way to feed a child, concerns have also been raised about children not leaning to use a spoon to feed themselves and also the amount of food/sugar that gets sucked through the children teeth can promote tooth decay. So we as a team are putting all food from a pouch into a bowl or cup for the children to feed themselves. Also we have been thinking about the effects on the environment. A way to save money and packaging is to use a container or glass jar and fill some from a bigger pot bought from the supermarket, you will probably find a 1kg pot of yoghurt will cost the same as 3-4 pouches.
Individual planning for children We are reviewing the way we plan for the interests and passions of your children. Through Storypark there is a way to capture a plan for each individual child and have the space for you as the parent to have the opportunity to respond and comment along the way. Please feel free to contribute as we always love to have your voice represented within your child’s portfolio. You should get a notification when these plans have been made.
Classic Flyers Trip Wednesday the 31st July is our trip to Classic Flyers, we are leaving the centre at 9 am and will return by 2pm. The children will be getting a tour through the museum and a walk over to the airport. The fire brigade at the airport will also give the children a demonstration from the fire truck. After the children have had lunch and before we set off back to the centre, one of our previous students has a dad with a helicopter very close to the airport. He has given us permission to visit and have a very close up look. We are all very excited. We cant wait to hear about all the learning and conversation that happens from this trip. We have a few spots left on the bus for anyone that wants to join us but may not come on a Wednesday, If you do please speak to Raechel
Children’s art We have lots of art work that needs to go home. The art box is located inside next to the art drying rack. Inside you will find your child’s name. Feel free to take home what is inside.
Matariki celebrations Thank you to our lovely families that joined us for the yummiest pumpkin soup and to celebrate Matariki with us. We have done many activities over the past month to celebrate the Maori New Year. The children have made kites, helped make the soup for our families. We have had the children plant seeds in preparation for our new vegetable gardens. We have had a lemon and magnolia tree donated to us by Mike that did our landscaping (Countywide landscapers) that we have planted in the centre. As well as lots of waiata and stories that are relevant to the Matariki stars. A big thank you to the preschool team for creating such rich learning experiences for the children through this special time of year. 4
