Back to School: A Mindset for Success
As we step into a new term, it is the perfect time for students to reflect on their personal goals and approach their learning with a positive mindset. Returning to school is not just about academic progress it is also about developing emotional resilience, fostering strong relationships, and finding balance in both self-growth and social interactions.
Focusing on the Self: Building a Growth Mindset
A successful start to the term begins with the right perspective. Students who embrace a growth mindset believing that effort and perseverance lead to improvement —are more likely to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
This means:
Setting realistic goals: Identify areas for improvement and create a plan to work towards them.
Embracing challenges: Instead of fearing mistakes, view them as opportunities to learn.
Practising self-care: A balanced routine of study, rest, and physical activity helps maintain motivation and well-being.
By focusing on their own learning journey, students can develop confidence and resilience, both of which are essential for success in school and beyond.
Engaging in Social Growth: Building
Positive Relationships
School is more than just a place of learning; it is a community where students grow together. Developing strong interpersonal skills is key to a fulfilling school experience.
This term, students are encouraged to:
Practice active listening: Show empathy and understanding when engaging with peers and teachers. Contribute to a positive environment: Be supportive of others, celebrate successes, and show kindness in daily interactions.
Engage in teamwork: Whether in group projects, sports, or extracurricular activities, collaboration helps develop communication and leadership skills.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
At ACG School Jakarta, we believe that a balanced approach—where students invest in both their academic and personal development leads to meaningful growth.
As we embark on this new term, let us support one another in fostering a learning environment where everyone feels valued, challenged, and inspired to be their best.
Welcome back, and let’s make this a great term ahead!

Year 2 Learning Showcase
At ACG School Jakarta, our Year 2 students recently took part in a Learning Showcase as part of their Unit of Inquiry, "Where We Are in Place and Time." This engaging and interactive event provided students with the opportunity to present their learning journey to parents and the wider school community, demonstrating their understanding of how different locations shape the way we live, work, and play.
Throughout this unit, students explored the diverse features of locations and how these influence human activity. They examined different types of places, how geographical features impact their use, and how places have evolved over time.
The big idea “The diverse features of a location determine how we live, work, and play”guided their learning and encouraged them to make connections between local and global environments.
Year 2 students engaged in a range of hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
They Investigated different locations both on Earth and beyond, including the features that make each place unique. Asked thought-provoking questions, such as “Why is the sky blue?” and “How do seasons change?”, leading to independent research and discovery.
Explored traditional homes across Indonesia in Bahasa Indonesia lessons, embracing open-mindedness as they learned about different cultural lifestyles.
Created dioramas in Art making a strong authentic connection to visually represent their chosen locations, demonstrating creativity and balance in their designs.
Wrote detailed non-fiction reports of landscapes, homes, animals, and weather, showing critical thinking, observation skills and of course research skills.
Designed ‘Top Trump’ style information cards, using illustrations and key facts to showcase their knowledge.
Designed custom storage boxes for their Top Trump Cards to organize their learning materials, reflecting on their work throughout the unit.

Engaging Parents in the Learning Journey
A key part of this showcase was the active participation of parents in the learning process. Parents played an essential role by:
Showing curiosity asking questions about different locations and open ended questions to force a deeper sharing of learning from their child.
Encouraging inquiry helping students research specific locations and understand how places have changed over time. Supporting deeper learning guiding students in their investigations of climate, landscapes, and human settlements.
A Celebration of Inquiry and Discovery
The Year 2 Learning Showcase was more than just a presentation it was a celebration of curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity. It allowed students to reflect on their learning, share their discoveries, and engage meaningfully with their families and peers
Through this unit, our students have not only gained knowledge about different places and their significance, but have also developed essential inquiry skills that will serve them well in future learning. By questioning, researching, creating, and reflecting, they have become true experts of the world!
We are incredibly proud of our Year 2 students for their enthusiasm, hard work, and dedication to learning. Thank you to our parents and the wider ACG community for supporting this journey we look forward to many more exciting Celebrations of Learning ahead!

DP
Update – A busy time for DP
students!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our Year 13 students are entering one of the most intense periods of their IB journey as they prepare for their second Mock Examination Session. Parents, please check your email for updated mock examination dates These exams are a crucial opportunity to refine exam techniques and consolidate learning ahead of the final IB assessments. Students should be using feedback from their first mock exams to target areas for improvement, adjust study strategies, and strengthen their understanding of key concepts.
At the same time, students are finalizing their Internal Assessments (IAs) for submission to the IB, marking an important milestone in their academic progress.
Completing these IAs to the highest possible standard is essential, as they contribute significantly to final IB grades
Looking ahead, we are excited for the Visual Arts Exhibition, which will take place in the last week of term. This is always a highlight of the IB Diploma Programme, allowing our talented Visual Arts students to present their creative work to the school community.
Alongside this, the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Exhibition will showcase students’ thought-provoking explorations of knowledge and its real-world applications. We encourage all parents to attend and support our students in these significant academic milestones.
With such a demanding workload, it is essential that students maintain a healthy balance between study and rest. Parents, please ensure your child is getting adequate sleep, proper nutrition, and time for relaxation to sustain their energy levels. If you have any concerns about their wellbeing, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or Mr Wilson as soon as possible

YEAR 12 UPDATE
Year 12 students have just completed their Collaborative Science project, an exciting opportunity that challenged them to apply scientific principles in a team setting. A huge thank you to Ms. Parker and the Science team for their support in guiding students through this experience. This project not only strengthened their understanding of key concepts but also built essential teamwork and problemsolving skills. It was great to see the results of their learning in action as part of the Science Olympiad.
As we move further into the term, students should now be focusing on developing strong study habits and consolidating their subject knowledge. While the final IB exams may seem far away, building a solid foundation now will be crucial for long-term success. Several subjects are beginning internal assessment work, so students must stay organized and proactive in meeting deadlines
Another major focus for Year 12 Diploma students is the Extended Essay (EE). By this stage, students should have met with their EE
I’d also like to welcome our new DP Teachers who have already made an excellent start to the year, both with our continuing and new students. Our new teachers are Ms. Reese Mattison (DP Visual Arts), Ms. Shinna Hutami (DP Chemistry), Mr. Alvince Adoyo (DP Mathematics and Chemistry), Mr. Chris England (DP English A), Mr. Narinder Kumar (DP Physics) and Mr. Peter Park (DP Mathematics).
I hope that you all get a chance to meet with them this term and make sure you arrange a time with them in our first Parent Teacher Student Conference, early Term 2
I hope that everyone is doing well and please reach out if your child requires any support.
