Teacher Appreciation Day was celebrated in the most beautiful and heartfelt way, thanks to the incredible efforts of our dedicated parent representatives.
The month of November 2024 was filled with creativity and talent at ACG School Jakarta, with our weekly Tuesday Assemblies showcasing incredible performances from various year levels.
Exploring Opportunities to Grow Through Festive and Everyday Moments.
As the vibrant energy of Halloween fades into November, it leaves behind more than just costumes and candy it reminds us of the power of creativity and imagination in shaping young minds.
Whether it's through designing a pumpkin carving, role-playing as a favourite character, or creating decorations, these moments are more than just fun; they are rich opportunities for learning and development.
At ACG School Jakarta, we embrace creativity and imagination as vital components of education. These qualities are not limited to the arts; they permeate every subject and social interaction, enabling students to approach challenges with innovation and empathy.
In science and mathematics, imagination fuels problem-solving. A biology student might envision ecosystems from the perspective of an endangered species, while a budding chemist could dream up sustainable solutions to modern-day issues. Mathematics, often seen as rigid, becomes an art form when students use creative thinking to uncover patterns or solve complex problems.
In the humanities, imagination is equally transformative. By stepping into the shoes of historical figures or crafting stories inspired by world literature, students gain a deeper understanding of perspectives and cultures. Even in technology and entrepreneurial projects, we see students using creative thinking to design innovative solutions that address real-world challenges.
Celebrations like Halloween and those to come, such as Diwali, Christmas, and New Year offer unique opportunities for students to practice collaboration, leadership, and cultural appreciation. The process of planning, creating, and sharing during these moments develops key life skills. A group project to design a haunted house or festive decoration, for instance, fosters teamwork and problem-solving.
These events also provide a platform for self-expression, giving students the freedom to explore their individuality and interests. A child dressing up as a scientist, superhero, or historical leader is not just playing; they are envisioning a future self and experimenting with ideas about identity and aspiration.
Imagination is essential to child development. It nurtures cognitive flexibility, which is crucial for adapting to a rapidly changing world. Creative activities enhance emotional well-being, offering children a safe outlet to explore feelings and build resilience.
When students engage in imaginative play or creative problem-solving, they are developing the ability to innovate, empathize, and lead skills that align with ACG School Jakarta’s mission to prepare students for life’s opportunities.
As we move deeper into the school year, let us keep the spirit of creativity alive, not just during festive times but in every classroom activity and community project. From crafting imaginative solutions in academic subjects to celebrating cultural diversity during social events, every moment is an opportunity to inspire students to think beyond the ordinary.
At ACG School Jakarta, we are proud to cultivate an environment where creativity and imagination flourish. Let us continue to encourage our learners to dream big, think boldly, and make meaningful connections in every aspect of their lives.

Year 2 presented a wonderful Learning Showcase for their families as a culmination celebration for their How We Express Ourselves Unit of Inquiry. Students delved into celebrating themselves and all the wonderful things that make “ me ” , “ me ” .
To culminate their thinking, hard work and creativity, students collated their work into a final autobiography that was printed into a ‘real book’.
So, the students truly saw themselves as writers, they understood the process of taking of book from planning stage through to print. Our students were extremely proud to share their autobiography with their families. As a mummy myself, I would have loved to have my own children be involved in this unit and bring these beautiful books home.
Our little Year 1 students also took part in a How We Express Ourselves unit of inquiry. Year 1 dug deep into what makes a fairytale. They talked about the setting, the characters, the beginning, middle and end of the story and what were the problems in the story. Students inquired into many fairytales, becoming familiar with them and retelling them with consistency, in their own words.
They then chose their own favourite fairytale from which they created a diorama – crafting their own setting, their own characters and making their own props to tell their story. Students had a plan that they used to assist with their story telling. I know that families were really amazed with our Year 1 story telling skills.

Year 6 conducted a deep dive into an inquiry into a How We Organise Ourselves Unit of Inquiry. This inquiry saw our students being entrepreneurial and come up with a product that they could design themselves and one that they could explain ‘why’ they chose to do this. Our Year 6 students had to consider marketing strategies and materials to help with the creation of the product. The transdisciplinary nature of this unit saw our music teacher helping to create jingles to help market each students product. A truly fun unit that, upon visiting, I purchased a pet rock that keeps me company at my desk as well as functioning as a wonderfully friendly paper weight.
All Celebrations of Learning saw IB Approaches to Learning in action, more in particular the skills that were being developed in our students throughout their inquiry. We had researchers, we had thinkers, we had strong communicators. We also had reflectors, caring children and open minded learners

Dear ACG Parents, Students, and Families,
We’ve had a wonderful start to the new academic year for the senior cohorts. You may have read online that we had some extremely strong IBDP results from our May 2024 cohort, averaging well over the global average score and with a top score of 41 from Sana. This was an amazing achievement and placed her in the top 4% of students globally. We’re confident that our current cohorts are on track for some excellent results this May.
We have just returned from an extremely productive DP Retreat in Bogor. We took 48 students and did intensive workshops and teambuilding activities, ending with a lovely hike to a waterfall in Sentul. I’d like to express my thanks to all the students and parents for their support, and Ms. Parker, Ms. Dina, Mr. Chris and Mr. Kumar for participating and running sessions. We’re hopeful that this experience has benefited the students, especially the Year 13s in their final year. Photos to come soon!
I’d also like to welcome our new DP Teachers who have already made an excellent start to the year, both with our continuing and new students. Our new teachers are Ms. Reese Mattison (DP Visual Arts), Ms. Shinna Hutami (DP Chemistry), Mr. Alvince Adoyo (DP Mathematics and Chemistry), Mr Chris England (DP English A), Mr. Narinder Kumar (DP Physics) and Mr. Peter Park (DP Mathematics) I hope that you all get a chance to meet with them this term and make sure you arrange a time with them in our first Parent Teacher Student Conference, early Term 2.
I hope that everyone is doing well and please reach out if your child requires any support.
Kind regards,
