The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) inquiry based learning provides a balanced development of knowledge, skills, critical thinking and positive attitudes. Specific learning benchmarks and standardised tests are used in each year level to track progress. Student led conferences and the PYP exhibition in Year 6, enable students to own and demonstrate their learning and critical thinking. Specialist subjects taught by specialist teachers, include Music, PE, Swimming, Vietnamese Language & Culture and Chinese. An extensive co-curricular and after school program provides multiple opportunities for students to excel in music, sport, service and leadership.

Students entering the Senior School undertake one of two pathways via the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The IB Diploma is the leading two-year pre-university academic programme worldwide. It is highly regarded by the best universities around the world. Full diploma – Students complete six major areas of study (with three at higher level) and the core requirements. To achieve the diploma all components must be completed successfully. Students choose from subjects ensuring breadth and depth in Languages, Humanities, Sciences, Mathematics, the Arts and Technology. Core subjects include Theory of Knowledge, the 4000 word Extended Essay and participation in the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) programme. The Diploma can be taken bi-lingually in Vietnamese, Korean or Japanese. Subject certificates – Students not wishing to complete the full diploma may undertake up to six subjects at either standard or higher level, as well as participate in the CAS programme. The academic programme is complemented by a wide range of co-curricular activities enabling Senior School students to build skills and confidence.

English Language • • •
AIS offers a high quality, comprehensive English language support programme for students who come from non-English speaking families. All students must sit an entry exam to enter the school, and students with appropriate levels of English may be permitted to enter the school directly. Depending on the results of the entry exam, students may be offered a place at AIS with additional English language support as follows:
English as Additional Language Program (EAL) • Students undertake mainstream classes and additionally have 3 hours per week of English language support either during and/or after school • Students can exit the program at the end of each semester provided they have achieved a specified standard. Intensive English Language Support Program (IELP) (Year 7 – Year 11) • Students undertake 20+ hours per week of English during classroom hours, and add mainstream classes as their English improves • Students can progress to EAL at the end of each semester provided they have achieved a specified standard. Assessment • As EAL programmes are at an additional cost, students are assessed each semester and may exit from the program once they achieve specified benchmarks.

Parent testimonials
Our son has been at AIS since 2014. We chose
AIS because of the school’s philosophy in developing our son to be a respectful and responsible individual, who contributes to society. The Principal, class teachers and assistant teachers are full of love for the students. They care about their development in all areas and give professional advice. Our son Jay really enjoys AIS. He has made many gentle and kind friends. He progresses well at school and this builds confidence.”
Prudence Chau, Hong Kong
After deciding to make the move to Vietnam in 2016, our first agenda item was placing our 15 year old son and 10 year old daughter in the most appropriate school. From the outset, AIS personnel provided us with a level of reassurance that our children’s education would be in safe hands. Harrison and Holly have now completed two years at AIS and upon reflection our entire family could not have hoped for a more seamless transition. AIS provides modern facilities, a safe environment along with extensive co-curricular opportunities where all students are encouraged and supported. The AIS teaching staff are incredibly dedicated and were quick to identify both our children’s individual
strengths and qualities. Whilst there is pressure to perform, in particular the senior years, the teaching staff deliver the curriculum in a way that promotes learning, self responsibility and accountability. We have observed this over the past 2 years where both children have grown from being dependent to increasingly more independent learners. As parents, we believe that AIS will provide both Holly and Harrison the resilience, confidence and knowledge to embrace what lies beyond AIS.”
