Kiwis keep Covid-19 away New Zealand has officially moved into Level 1 and has zero cases and has won the first part of the pandemic battle. New Zealand went into lockdown on Wednesday 25th March to stop the Covid-19 virus from spreading. Covid-19 has affected many jobs and forced businesses to close down. Our country was successful at getting rid of Covid-19 because everyone worked together and followed the rules to stop the virus from spreading. Everyone stayed home and didn't go to school or work or to visit their friends and families. All of the people who were at your house were in your bubble and people didn't get close to anyone from another bubble. When they went to places like the supermarket, just one person from a bubble went and they were careful to stay two metres away from anyone else who was from another bubble. There were lots of kind people in New Zealand who delivered groceries to elderly people so that they could stay at home and stay safe. The people from New Zealand did a good job of looking out for each other and that is why the Covid-19 virus was eliminated. Hopefully lots of other countries will be able to get rid of the virus soon too, just like New Zealand has.
What the guidelines are for Level l It's very important to remember the guidlelines for Level 1. We should make sure that we wash hands often and cough or sneeze into your elbow.
We should all continue to keep track of where we’ve been and who we’ve seen. People who come to New Zealand still have to be tested and will have to stay in quarantine for 14 days. Hopefully Level 1 will end one day soon.

Covid Cures Global Warming Pollution
Global warming is affecting our planet and the animals. Scientists think that humans are causing most of the global warming problem. During the Covid-19 lockdown the air in big cities was perfectly fine
because no one was driving their cars. Before the lockdown when lots of people were driving their cars in the big cities there was so much pollution that it seemed like brown fog! Animals are also being affected by pollution. For example lots of turtles have been dying. Lots of people have been throwing plastic bags into the ocean. Turtles have poor eyesight and they sometimes mistake plastic bags for jellyfish. If people are not going to far, then they should walk or go on bikes so that there are not so many cars on the road to make pollution. If everybody plays their part then global warming might be wiped out and the world could be a much cleaner place.
Mosque attack remembered in New Zealand
Our vision is to create a thriving, caring and connected community.
Just before the Covid-19 lockdown started  people in New Zealand remembered that it was one year ago since the mosque attacks in Christchurch. Mosque attacks are one of the worst things in the world. In the attack last year 51 people died and another 40 were injured. Every year on the 15th of March people pray that it will never happen again. It was the worst mass shooting in the history of New Zealand. Lots of people were very sad that some of their family were shot or killed.
Many people thought that New Zealand was a safe country to live in. Now lots of people feel scared. Hopefully nothing like this will happen again in New Zealand.

Lots of businesses and jobs have been affected by Covid-19 Pandemic There are a lot of businesses that have closed because of Covid-19. Some people don't have a job anymore, which is very sad.  People have lost jobs and money because of coronavirus. Some jobs which were lost were jobs to do with tourism. This is because people were not allowed to go to the tourism places. Another place was restaurants and cafes because people were not allowed to go there either. Shops like clothing had to close as well and some of them haven't been able to open up again yet.
For all of your hunting and outdoor clothing needs, Hunters Element is the place to go
Now that it is Level 1 lots of businesses are open again so we are hoping that people who have lost their jobs will be able to get another one and have money again to look after their families.
What's happening in other countries? New Zealand is a lot luckier than other countries around the world when it comes to Covid-19. Other countries are struggling in this very bad crisis. Italy for instance Italy is one of the worst places for COVID-19. 234,998 people have coronavirus 33,899 have died.
There are 7,961,326 Covid-19 cases in the world and 434,475 have died. It is a very hard time for everyone. Big cities are the worst places for Covid-19. One reason is because everyone is very close together. So it is very hard to social distance. That is a reason America is very bad with COVID-19. We are very lucky in New Zealand that we aren't in lockdown anymore. Lots of countries will be in lockdown for a long time because there are still lots of people catching the virus and it is still spreading.
Lots of countries around the world are working hard to get a vaccine that people could get to help stop them from catching the Covid-19 virus. When that happens hopefully the world will become safe again for people to travel to different countries and to see things around the world like they used to do. The Year 4 students from ACG Tauranga know that they are very fortunate to live in one of the safest countries in the world when it comes to Covid-19 virus.

They all worked hard during lockdown on all of their subjects. They also have some goals to work towards before the holidays. Getting faster and more accurate at doing their times tables has been something that started in the lockdown and has continued on since returning to school.
When the students first returned to school they kept on working hard at learning their times tables. Lots of students have made big improvements in their times tables learning.
After writing some great fantasy stories during lockdown, the Year 4 students have been learning about newspaper reports and will be writing some creative poetry in the next two weeks. It will exciting to see the creativity of these wonderful writers as they get poetic.
