Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,
We have had a very positive and successful month of teaching and learning, and it is a credit to our faculty, staff, students, and parents as they have all been challenged by the regulations and health and safety protocols throughout this academic year. With six weeks remaining of this incredibly challenging 2021-2022 academic year, we are all focused on a positive finish. Our Year 6 students and teachers were incredibly busy before the Eid holiday break with the culminating experience of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Exhibition. Our students are to be congratulated for their commitment, hard work and creativity as they have all tackled importants issues and topics with a great deal of maturity and dedication. Special thanks to all experts, mentors, and the Year 6 Team who have supported our students throughout. We have several important events coming up. Our first ASAC E-Sports Tournament will be held on Thursday, 12 May and we wish our students all the very best as they represent the school and compare against other students in the region. Students across the school will have an opportunity to participate in the Photography Competition in May and we look forward to seeing creativity on display. Our Year 11 and 13 Art students are presenting their Visual Arts Exhibition in the lobby area of the school to celebrate the wonderful artwork produced throughout the IGCSE and IBDP programmes. Congratulations to Mr. Mark Ellison (Arts Team Leader), Mrs. Olivia Owen and Ms Tia Kusmugiarti for their guidance and support of our young artists. Our Middle School students have been busy preparing for their ACG Racers Event, which will be launched on Thursday, 9 June and we can’t wait to see what they have been up to this year. Our Class of 2022 will graduate on Saturday, 4 June and we look forward to celebrating and acknowledging their incredible achievements. Shawn Hutchinson Principal

Message from the
VICE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students, For Middle and High School students and teachers, Term 4 is the busiest part of the year. Mock exams might be over for Year 11 and 13, but End of Year Exams are just around the corner for Years 7-10 and 12 and will be held 23 – 27 May. All of the IBDP students have now completed their IA uploads and their teachers have input their predicted grades into the IB system. We have also run our S2 PSTC’s and Year 9 and 11 students have started to think in even more detail about their preferences for the next two academic years. It’s a crucial step and one that needs lots of thought, conversation and considering the longer time-frame. Please do take the opportunity to speak with Mr Todd, Mr Hutchinson, subject teachers, older siblings and alumni. It is a very smart idea to talk things through with a wide range of people so that you know you have made a considered choice that fits who you are, what you love and what you are good at. Of course that is not the end of school for Year 11. For the next 5 weeks of Term 4 they will be learning some very practical skills related to study and also building a portfolio that helps them understand themselves at a deeper level as individuals. Graduation planning is well under way with gowns, caps and sashes fitted and we begin rehearsals very soon. Speeches are being written, banners and certificates printed; it’s a very exciting time. Richard Todd VIce Principal, DP Coordinator and University Guidance Counsellor

Message from the SENIOR TEACHER EARLY LEARNING and PYP COORDINATOR Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students, Thank you for your attendance and participation in our Parent Student Teacher conferences of Semester 2. As our students near the end of this academic year, these meetings were an important opportunity for them to spend time reflecting on their learning, showcasing their achievements and progress, and identifying next steps and goals. I hope you found these meetings as enjoyable as we did. Our Student Leaders once again successfully planned and delivered another week-long, whole school event, in association with the ASAC community, to celebrate Earth Day 2022, with a focus on ‘Investing in our planet’. Students had the opportunity to plant in our new and developing green space area, and a big thank you to our students and parents for their donations towards future gardening projects. Our Year 6 students have certainly worked hard over the last 7 weeks on their individual PYP projects, with the continued support and guidance of their mentors, Year 6 teams and single subject teachers. I had the pleasure of working with the students to develop their understanding of how they could ‘Take action’ and how this can create an impact, however small. Please remember that action doesn’t have to stop when exhibition is over. The idea is that their action can grow, so that it creates change for the better and through the lens of their Sharing the Planet theme, hopefully make some valuable contributions to taking care of our planet. We look forward to sharing with you, a compilation of our PYP Exhibition of 2022 in next month’s virtual assembly, celebrating individual student work and their class collaborative Arts piece. As we approach the final weeks of this school year, we look forward to our Kindergarten and primary students being able to attend school every day from 8.00am-14.40pm. The primary team will also be delivering their final PYP Units of Inquiry and writing their semester 2 student reports. It is always a busy time of year, but a fun and enjoyable one, as we make the most of the time we have left with our students before they move up, or move on to new adventures. Vanessa Ellison

We also learned about capacity measurement, where students were introduced to terms like full, half full, half empty, and empty. For this unit of inquiry we explored and researched on the evaporation process. They enjoyed observing and summarizing their hypothesis in their own words. Last week Year 1 has also been busy participating in Year 1 Earth Day and ASAC Challenge. They sure had a fun time.

Learning at ACG School Jakarta Year 5 During the month of April, students in Year 5 have been working on two Units of Inquiry. For their ‘Who We Are’ Unit, we are inquiring into our Line of Inquiry, ‘The Connection between acquired traits and the environment’. To help students experience this, students have created goals, considered how they would be best successful, including the environment and resources needed, and practiced over the course of multiple weeks. Following our Idul Fitri holiday break, we will reflect on this process and discuss what we have learned.
For our How The World Works Unit, students have been learning the steps of the Scientific Method. For their Formative Assessment, they planned, conducted, documented, analysed data from their own science experiments. They reflected on their hypothesis and whether they have opportunities to continue their learning on the same topics. Please click the image below to view the video.

Learning at ACG School Jakarta Year 6 As part of their International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), our Year 6 cohort recently produced an outstanding exhibition of independent research projects focusing on protecting the environment. Students were introduced to a range of topics related to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals a few months before the exhibition formally began. This allowed them to connect to different topics and have time to select the exact scope of their research. Providing them the agency to select their own topics was of the utmost importance. We then began the process in April, and our students had approximately eight weeks to complete the entire project.” With the help and guidance of teaching staff, the exhibition was an in-class project, with specialist mentors providing assistance whenever possible. In line with IB requirements, students were required to have a Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry with associated Key Concept Questions to frame their research. Students were able to choose how they wanted to fulfil these requirements and were assisted by their mentors, experts, and teachers. They had a great passion for their topics and handled the bumps of virtual learning, took in feedback and completed wonderful projects. Everyone involved with our Year 6 cohort is extremely proud of them.
