Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students, It is now time for me to sign off on my ACG School Jakarta journey. My family and I have been a part of the ACG community for 11 years (three different schools), and during this time we have been wonderfully supported and nurtured. It has been an interesting ride and we will never forget the people we have worked with and shared laughs with. At ACG School Jakarta, we have worked hard every day to create our own history and reputation and I am sure the next few years will be bright for the entire school community. I would like to thank Mr Clarence van der Wel (APAC CEO) for giving me the opportunity to work for an organization that so proudly believes in challenging and empowering students. I would like to thank Inspired Education Group for maintaining a strong commitment towards further developing the school. I would also like to thank the local administration team (Fita, Nurul, Yudho, Ica, Mia, Tia, Septa and Gita) who are the constant and solid foundation — they are people who work incredibly hard and do not receive the recognition they deserve. I would like to thank the Academic Leadership Team (Mr. Todd and Mrs Ellison) for their tireless efforts to improve the school and wish them all the best in their future endeavours. I would like to thank faculty and staff for being so supportive, caring and compassionate. I have been blessed with opportunities to visit their classrooms and see how they ‘go the extra mile’ for every student in their care. I have valued their friendship and support over the past four years. It has been a pleasure to lead ACG School Jakarta since July 2018 and, together we have navigated natural disasters and a global pandemic to continue our work to position ACG School Jakarta as an academically focused education option for families seeking personalised care and a nurturing environment. On behalf of my wife Mayumi and daughters Lina and Mei, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and guidance over the past four years. Indonesia is a beautiful part of the world, and we will remember our time here fondly. Most importantly, we thank you for the way in which we were welcomed into the community.

Message from the
VICE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students, Jakarta in June! The rainy season is almost (but not quite) old news and our class of 2022 are finally free of school-life and all of us are looking forward to a summer of rest and recouperation. I am sure you will all take advantage whether through extra sleep, rest or catching up with family and friends. Our prizegiving is done, reports published, assessments completed, our last assembly for the year has rolled it’s credits and we can give our academic brains something of a break. We can now look forward to the next academic year with the installation of a new Head Boy and Head Girl (well done Anirudh and Lidia!) supported by a new and willing group of prefects to be decided early in 2022-2023. Again we take the chance to thank Raahim, Rebeca and Anh for their inspiring and creative leadership during another challenging year and all of the prefects and student body who made this such a strong community year in many ways. Our third student led Yearbook has been an incredibly ‘teacher-free’ product this year in terms of design, layout, theme, construction; I would like to thank the Yearbook team of Anh, Raizaaisha, Aahana, Inaya, Amara, Uzma, Izzie, Rashi and Etarina for their phenomenal contribution this year. Let’s hope that next year brings fewer masks, temperature monitors, flight restriction and worry. I wish you all the very best for the future. Message from the SENIOR TEACHER EARLY LEARNING and PYP COORDINATOR Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students, Our June newsletter means that we have come to the end of the 2021-2022 academic year, and what a year it has been! We should look back at this year (and the previous year) and acknowledge how strong and resilient we have all been during these challenging and unprecedented times. As a community, we have shown support, care and compassion for one another and a commitment to ensuring our students succeed and achieve their personal best, in the ever changing circumstances that we have found ourselves in. I am thankful that times seem to be changing towards what we might consider a ‘new normal’ and Term 4 has really evidenced that, with a return to full days on campus, and programmes such as swimming and ASAs back on the schedule. Looking back at some of the highlights of this school year, it is difficult to choose my particular favourites, although our whole school dress up days have been right up there as some of my fondest memories at ACG! We delighted in dressing up for Halloween, Literacy week and through the acknowledgment of important cultural events such as Diwali and Eid Ul Filtri. Our monthly virtual assemblies were a great way to showcase all the exciting events and learning that took place and a big thank you to our amazing assembly team for working so hard to make it all happen, each and every month. Our school week was enriched with the celebration of global Earth day, and a focus on our new ACG Green space, where students had the opportunity to plant and learn more about caring for our planet. Our mental health awareness week, and other Spirit week events were only made possible by the hard work of our StuCo and teacher Leaders, so a huge thank you to you all. Building strong, positive home/school partnerships with our parent community, is incredibly important and I appreciate and thank all those involved in these events such as our Parent Student Teacher Conferences, transition meetings and information sharing sessions such as our Parent As Learners workshops. A favourite aspect of my role is having the opportunity to meet, get to know and work with our parent community, and despite many of our interactions being online this year, it has been a privilege to get to know you all. Similarly, it has been my absolute pleasure to welcome all of the Kindergarten and primary students onto campus every day, and despite the fact that they could not see my smile behind my mask, and I could not see theirs, they would smile brightly with their eyes and say good morning with such joy and enthusiasm for the day ahead. This is a memory I will treasure. Finally, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone; parents, caregivers, faculty, staff and students. It has been my pleasure to be a part of this wonderful ACG school community and as I move onto new adventures, I wish everyone the very best for the future. The International community is a small one and I hope our paths cross again. Have a wonderful summer. Relax, recharge your batteries, take a holiday somewhere nice and get ready for a new and exciting school year ahead. Take care and see you again. Vanessa Ellison 4 | ACG JKT 2

Learning at ACG School Jakarta Year 1 As we moved on to our next stage in our inquiry cycle, students took further action to investigate how they can play a role in looking after the planet. Students brainstormed questions they would like to ask our guest speaker Dr Rajiv Bhanot who provides clean water to rural areas. Do check out the video! With learnings and inspiration from our guest speaker, some students have invented filtration bottles at home. Overall, students enjoyed this learning. Learning at ACG School Jakarta Year 6 During the Year 6 to Year 7 transition day, I was excited to meet my new teachers and new friends. In the morning, we came to school, and when I was waiting for the others, Ms. Mia was with a new student. He sat down and some of the Year 6 students welcomed him. When everyone was going to their classes, we were in a rush to go to Ms. Harrison’s class. While we were in a rush to go to our first class for the day, we were together finding our way to the class. We were put into groups and were put at our tables and a new student for middle school came. In Ms. Harrison’s class, she made some tricky questions about come early for school, and she talked about how students were scared to come to school and wanted to hide. At the end of the day we went to the English classroom and there were some students from Year 7 and there was Ms. Dina. It was the Q and A session and they talked about some changes. Such as different subjects, exams, grades, etc. Some of the Year 6 students also had some questions that were answered. It was interesting where I get to know what will happen during Year 7. After the Q and A, we went downstairs, and the timetable of the day was normal again. I had a very different thought of what the transition would be like. I was tired of walking up a lot of stairs and I was interested in being a Year 7 student. Farha

Learning at ACG School Jakarta Primary Music Year 6 presented the unisono class choir with the song “Ode To Peace” re-arranged by Jill Gallina. The song is based on the Finale from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. The lyrics are very touching. It is about the prayer for peace on earth in every nation and for woman, man, and children. Although we are not as good as the other choirs out there, we practiced hard in every music lesson. We hope that in the future we can sing together often in our class.

Learning at ACG School Jakarta Primary Transition Day Moving from primary to middle school is an exciting time for students and parents. To help prepare our Year 6 we held a Transition to Middle School information session, on 25 May 2022, to provide key information about our lower secondary programme, and the ways that middle school may be different. On 3 June we invited our Year 6 class, and two new students, to join a Year 6 Transition Day, where students got to experience some of the core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Global Perspective and Design Technology, taught by the middle school teachers. The class then joined a Q & A session where they asked the Year 7 student ambassadors: Sparsh, Aya, Jade and Rohit, some burning questions about what to expect in Year 7. It seemed like the Year 6 students are looking forward to taking their next steps on their learning journey and we’re all excited in secondary to welcoming them all in August.

Learning at ACG School Jakarta Year 7 English Our final unit of the year is Sunflower Poetry. We looked at how vivid adjectives can help readers visualize figurative language like similes and personification. We also noticed that there are no rules when it comes to writing poetry! After finalising our poems, we recorded ourselves reading them aloud with intonation, pace, volume and of course not forgetting enthusiasm and confidence. We then illustrated our poems to give them more meaning. Please enjoy reading our poetry and if you’d like to watch us reading too, simply click on the image.

Learning at ACG School Jakarta Mathematics - Year 8 Design your own house Have you ever thought about what your own house would look like? Students in Year 8 had the opportunity to do this for their Unit 5 Summative. The brief was to design their own dream house and submit a scale floor plan of the house. They were asked to calculate the cost of tiling the floors and painting the exterior walls and give clear calculations of areas, perimeters, and costs. Also, a summary statement was required; to explain their design and the processes used, the research they carried out, challenges they encountered, and their reflections on the overall process. The assignments submitted were impressive and this is a small sample of their work.

Learning at ACG School Jakarta House Team Competition The student council decided to hold an event named “Sports Week” to commemorate the last week of school, a time when students graduate, their final moments in school, and the time before summer break. Students were able to interact with one another and compete in a physical event as representatives of their respective house teams with the opportunity to win prizes such house points. After the global virus outbreak and the introduction of online education, the student council has decided to hold an offline event. Before the pandemic, Beach Volleyball was a crowd favourite and each house competed fiercely against one another on Monday and Tuesday. There was also a series of Dodgeball games played between the teams on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, the best Beach Volleyball and Dodgeball teams from the week competed against one another to determine the final rankings. There were nearly 160 students, from elementary to high school, who participated in student council activities this week, demonstrating that students are eager to return to a more routine schedule and to once again find delight in working together through sports and other team activities. We received feedback from students that this event was a great chance to spend time with their friends at the conclusion of the school year. In light of this, the student council plans to organize events similar to Sports Week in the upcoming school year. The winner of the Sports Week was announced through our Instagram and our Parent Update and we have also made a formal announcement through a video. The student council would like to take this opportunity to thank all students, parents, teachers, and members of the academic leadership for their support throughout this academic year. It has been an incredible journey for all of us and we could not have accomplished what we have so far without the support of our community. We look forward to the following year and we hope we can continue to organize successful events for the school.
