Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,

Embracing September: Settling into the School Routine

As we reflect on the month of September here at ACG School Jakarta, it was a time of transition, excitement, and new beginnings. The transition from the lazy days of summer to the structured routine of school proved to be both invigorating and challenging for our students. However, it was an essential part of their holistic education journey, aligning with the principles of the IB and Cambridge programs that guide us.

Embracing Routine for Holistic Growth

At ACG School Jakarta, we recognized the significance of routines in nurturing wellrounded individuals. Our holistic education approach extended beyond academic excellence to encompass personal growth and development. Throughout September, our students embraced the routines that became the foundation for their success.

The Power of Consistency

Consistency proved to be a key ingredient in achieving academic excellence and personal growth. Whether it was attending morning assemblies, participating in extracurricular activities, or dedicating time to homework, these routines provided students with the structure they needed to thrive. As educators, we understood that these daily rituals played a crucial role in nurturing open-minded, responsible, and caring individuals.

A Smooth Transition

Transitioning into the school routine may have felt daunting at times, especially for new students or those moving up to a new grade level. However, our school community was there to support every student in settling comfortably. Teachers provided guidance, classmates eagerly made new friends, and our diverse community was welcoming and inclusive.

Incorporating the ACG School Jakarta Mission and Vision

Our mission statement spoke of preparing students for life’s opportunities and striving to make a difference both locally and globally. As we settled into the routine of school in September, it was important to remember these principles. Each school day was an opportunity for our students to inquire into the world around them and develop the skills to be responsible global citizens.

Message from the Principal

Our vision emphasized creativity, innovation, and leadership. The routines and daily activities at our school were designed to foster these qualities. Whether it was a science experiment, a math challenge, or a creative project, every classroom was a place where students could excel in their areas of interest and make a positive impact.

Conclusion

As we look back on the journey into September, we celebrated the routines and structures that helped us grow academically and personally. We remembered that these routines were not limitations but opportunities for growth, learning, and making a difference in the world. Together, as a community of learners, we embraced this transition and continued to uphold the values and vision of ACG School Jakarta. Here’s to a successful and enriching month that was!

Warm regards,

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,

Our Primary teachers have been exploring connections between our Programme of Inquiry and the UN SDGs (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals) (SDGs) and UN CRC (UN Convention on Rights Of A Child). The next issue of the WolfPack will have more information about our work on this alignment.

In this issue, we will be focusing on another aspect of International Mindedness: “The six transdisciplinary themes capture human commonalities that are significant and relevant regardless of where students are in the world and to which ethnic or cultural groups they belong... They scaffold the development and demonstration of international-mindedness and engage students with issues of personal, local, national and global significance as outlined in figure PO01.” Two of the six Transdisciplinary Themes, which students explore through the Programme of Inquiry in each year of the PYP are:

In a school with a very diverse staff and student population, it is most important that a school creates opportunities to establish and maintain intercultural understanding through positive relationships among community members. The month of September saw our school community busy with three such lively, fun-filled events which helped us learn and reflect on who we are and where we are in place and time:

• On September 1, Primary students in Years 3-45-6, stayed on campus until 8pm, and enjoyed “A Night in School”. They had fun in mixed groups, allowing students from different age-groups to play together, and their friendships to flourish. IB Learner Profile Scavenger Hunt was also an opportunity for mixed groups to thing and reflect together on ‘who we are’, in terms of the IB Learner Profile attributes.

• The next day, the whole school community gathered on our campus for a Family Afternoon Barbeque event. Our Football Field housed a tent filled with activity centres, and we all enjoyed performances by our students, and some of us were lucky with the raffle draws.

• Our weekly Assembly on Tuesday 26 September was a celebration of “where we are”, our host country Indonesia, We enjoyed a variety of music, dance, and martial arts performances and workshops representing Betawi Culture, courtesy of Benyamin Sueb Foundation. Preceded by our Indonesian Independence Day Assembly in August, and Batik Day in October, this introduction to Betawi culture enriched our students’ knowledge and understanding of how rich and varied Indonesian culture is.

From ACGSJ Parent-Student Handbook: Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences

Conferences with teachers provide a way of informing parents, on a regular basis, about their child’s growth and classroom performance. Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences are scheduled for all students at the end of Term 1.

Primary Student-Led Conferences are scheduled at the end of Term 3. In the studentled conference model, a student leads his or her parents through a series of stations that showcase projects, work samples and skills that the student has developed over the course of the semester. Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences are scheduled for Year 7-10 students at the end of Term 3. Please refer to the 2023-2024 Academic Calendar for exact dates of conferences.

Parents may contact their child’s teacher at any point in the school year to schedule a conference to discuss their child’s progress or any academic or behavioural concerns. Teachers may periodically schedule conferences with parents to discuss a student’s progress.

Should you have any questions or anything you would like to share, or just to say hello, please book a meeting with me during our upcoming Parent Student Teacher Conferences on 10 and 12 October.

Regards,

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,

I hope that everyone is doing well and I’d like to share some updates on the progress of our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) classes here at ACG Jakarta School.

Year 13 - Our Year 13 students are nearing the completion of their Extended Essays, which is excellent news. The teacher supervisors have been working hard with their students, with the guidance of Ms. Arti, the EE Coordinator. Recently, Ms. Arti arranged the EE Sprint, where students and supervisors worked on a Saturday at school to work on their essays. This event really assisted in their progress and I’d like to thank everyone for their support. I feel it really shows our staff and students’ dedication by working on this in their own time.

We wish all students the best of luck embarking on their Internal Assessments. It’s important that they plan and work productively during their school hours and at home to stay on track with their deadlines. We are supporting all students in this. I advise all parents and guardians to make an appointment with all their DP teachers and myself to discuss your child’s progress.

Year 13 have also been actively preparing for their TOK (Theory of Knowledge) Exhibitions, a crucial part of their intellectual growth, and we look forward to seeing their thought-provoking presentations.

Year 12 - Meanwhile, our Year 12 students have enthusiastically embraced the start of their CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service) projects, demonstrating their commitment to personal growth and community engagement. They are adapting to the challenges and responsibilities of their senior program, showcasing their determination to succeed.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our students who recently participated in the ASAC Volleyball trip in Thailand. Their outstanding performance and sportsmanship exemplify the values we hold dear at ACG Jakarta School.

We are immensely proud of the accomplishments of our IBDP students and the dedication they show in their academic and extracurricular pursuits. As they continue to excel and grow, we have no doubt that they will make a positive impact on our school community and beyond.

Regards,

A community of entrepreneurial and compassionate learners

ACG School Jakarta as a learning organization

September was a busy month for our staff as we finalized and submitted our documentation for what is called IB Evaluation Preliminary Review, and we received a positive feedback from the IB.

As part of our IB Evaluation Self-study, our next step is to inform and involve parents in the Self-study process. To this end, we invite you take part in our self-study meetings for parents. 2023-2024 Academic Year marks our third IB PYP and first IB DP Evaluation, a process that each IB School undertakes every five years. This external evaluation provides our school with the opportunity to improve teaching and learning, refine strategic planning and structure internal professional development opportunities for staff.

Since the beginning of the 2022-2023 Academic Year, our staff have been collaboratively conducting a self-study and writing development plans to improve student learning experience, as well as aligning our IB and Cambridge-IGCSE programme implementation. We previously invited our school community to complete a survey. At this point, we invite a representative group of parents of IB PYP and DP students to take a larger part in the self-study.

It is very important for us to hear your feedback on your child’s education and our school, and we look forward to working with parents to improve teaching and learning in our school. As part of the Self-study, volunteer parents are kindly requested to participate in three meetings on the following dates:

We are very pleased that many parents have volunteered to participate in this process. There are still a few places left for interested parents. If you would like to join the Self-study meetings, please contact our Head of Admissions & Registrar, Ms Mia Sari: mia.sari@acgedu. com

Arts Field Trip

Exploring the World of Art! Our secondary students embarked on an inspiring art trip to Museum MACAN last week. Amidst the captivating exhibits and vibrant colours, they delved into the world of creativity and expression. But that’s not all! At the end of the tour, our young artists had a chance to channel their imagination and craftsmanship by creating unique homes from cardboard boxes. This hands-on experience deepened their art appreciation and ignited their creativity. Here’s to fostering the next generation of artistic talents!
