WINGS NEWSLETTER
Vol 13, Term Two, Week Seven, 14 June 2019
Dear ACG Sunderland Community
What’s in this issue:
Congratulations to Moon Children, the College Band made up of Erin Geraghty, Kuldeep Khakh and Cassandra PaulingMunro, they are off to the Nationals having come second in the reginal finals last Friday. The three members of Moon Children radiated the Sunderland Spirit, rising to the challenge. We wish you all the best for your preparation for the next leg of the competition to get into Nationals. Thank you to all the supporters and parents who cam along on the evening.
You may have heard through your children that we experienced our largest Open Day in over Tens years last weekend. We experienced a 40% increase of families visiting our wonderful school. I wish to again thank all of our student guides from the Primary and the College who do such a wonderful job of touring our guests around the campus. Also, a huge thank you to all the staff who were involved too.

This week in the Primary, we had the Swimming Carnival on Thursday. I wish to thank and complement Mr Sam Baker and his team of staff and parents who supervised and dealt with all the timing and recording on the day. As usual, the day was a fantastic success with almost the entire Primary school in the water competing. Congratulations to all participants. The most important race of the day was the staff versus student race and yet again, the staff came away with the win.

Last weekend “Moon Children” competed at the Auckland Regional Finals of Smokefree Rockquest 2019. Erin was her usual effervescent self. Her bubbling enthusiasm combined with her inspiring talent on the lead guitar and vocals overflowed from the stage into the audience and hyped us all up. Cassandra showcased her amazing skill on the drum kit, the time, effort and zeal put into her craft really shone through. Kuldeep was his normal nonchalant self – “just chillin’ on bass”, keeping us all grounded. It was great witnessing them being themselves as they showcased how to “just do you” – we totally caught that vibe off of them! A number of ACG came together to support the band which was uplifting to see – our school spirit really showed up on the night. At one point during the evening when the MC reintroduced the Moon Children near the end of the evening, the supporters screamed and cheered so loudly and with so much fervour that he commented that they had temporarily deafened him – a big feat for a small but strong group of devotees which included past and present students, parents and siblings, friends, teachers and the groups music mentor John Kennedy. When the awards were announced and we all heard that Moon Children got second, our hearts brimmed with excitement and pride for them, knowing all their hard work, stresses and self-doubt could now be slayed. The three members of Moon Children themselves, also radiated the Sunderland Spirit - in rising to their challenge, they took all of us - the supporters and the audience, along for a ride… through sea or sky, trials or tribulations – their participation and performances in this event encouraged us all to always strive, soar and seek new heights but have fun doing it! Moon Children we are proud of you, your achievement and the way you all presented yourselves on stage. We wish you all the best for your preparation for the next leg of the competition to get into Nationals. Kia Kaha and Aroha nui. Celcelia Faumuina Parent 5
