The Primary trip to Crystal Mountain for the Year One and Two students was also a great success. It is the first time we have visited this experience as a school, and it has very much enhanced Science Week where Earth Elements was the theme.

Next week is Examination Week for the Year Five to Year Thirteen students. I know most of the students have been working hard in preparation of these medium stake assessments. I have also been reminding the students at assembly too, all everyone wants, parents and students alike, is for our students to do their best. No one can ask any more than that. Therefore, expectation must always be measured. Interestingly, the Ministry of education has just released the review document for NCEA, with the key changes being: • Study six subjects • More back to examination based assessment (at least 50%) • Cannot accumulate credits outside of these subjects This move is in line with global changes in education assessment which has been happening over the past five years and back towards more formal examinations. 2

Mrs Tyler had a large turnout of interested College students on Wednesday night to potentially attend the proposed Borneo tour in late 2020. Please contact Mrs Tyler (Janie.tyler@acgedu.com) if you missed this evening and you are keen to attend. If you missed the information last week, following an incredibly successful trip with Antipodeans to Thailand in December 2015, ACG Sunderland is excited to announce the launch of another Antipodeans tour, this time to Borneo! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for your child to challenge themselves and embrace the world beyond the classroom. On the tour, current Year 9 to Year 12 students will have the chance to contribute towards a sustainable Community Project and discover the beautiful Orangutan Sanctuaries, meander through the bustling markets, explore the crystal clear waters and white sand beaches in the national parks and wonder through one of the oldest rainforests on earth. Book Week 2019

A huge

thank you

to all the

students , teachers, parents that made this Book Week so successful. The book fair was awesome and from the purchases , our library received $748.28 in free books. Fabulous. Thank you to the parents who also bought and donated books to our library from the fair as well. These were very appreciated. Two Authors came this year, Vasanti Unka and Emma Vere-Jones. Both very successful women that gave our students encouragement to write and illustrate. Wacky Wednesday saw some fabulous and creative hair styles, hats and glasses. The grand finale was our book parade on Friday morning which was awesome, fun and vibrant. From Mrs Davies
