ACG SUNDERLAND
WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 15, Term One, Week Eleven, 8 April 2020
Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland
I hope you are all safe and well in your bubble at home and the children at last are able to relax after what has been a very challenging Term One here at ACG Sunderland. I must say how very proud I am of the student body from Preschool all the way to Year Thirteen. All have given their best over this very trying period. Being locked down in your bubble for two weeks is one thing, it’s something else to settle down so very quickly into a completely different learning style and continue to perform so very well. I would also like to recognise my entire staff, teachers and administration staff for how they have also quickly adapted their teaching style and workspaces to accommodate our online and virtual learning styles. The feedback has been so overwhelmingly positive, I do encourage parents and students to post their feedback online in a pre-prepared survey, that can be found at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc7BXxTkwlA6I7BOARrBcgmeS5DmW_Hf9ifZeQzJIqmGIioUQ /viewform At this stage, we are preparing to continue with virtual lessons beyond 23 April, I suspect the Government will make an announcement during next week at some stage – to give families time to prepare for either eventuality. I am delighted to announce to the entire school that we have managed to secure a wonderful replacement for Miss Michaela Smith – our PE and Social Science teacher who fell ill and needed to return home to the UK unfortunately, at the beginning of the year.

Mr Michael Gerrard will be joining the Social Science and Physical Education teams after these school holidays. Michael and his wife Penny are originally from Durban in South Africa and for the past year Michael has been teaching at a South Auckland school. Michael is a Historian and PE teacher with a real passion for cricket, having played at a high level in his home country. I wish to warmly welcome Michael aboard here at Sunderland. I wish to acknowledge the grand work of Mrs Debbie McLaughlin over the past term, covering the PE and Social Science classes. Debbie is a wonderful teacher and it would be great if we could find a place for her at Sunderland in the near future too. Also, I want to let you know that Mr Bryant, our Year Five teacher has decided to explore education in the early childhood area and is departing to a new position after the holidays. Fortunately, we have a superb replacement who was welcomed to all the children and parents on Tuesday night via Zoom. Miss Carla White is a very experienced Primary educator with a background teaching in the UK and in New Zealand too. For the past two and half years Carla has been teaching at Victoria Ave Primary in Remuera, teaching Year Six. She has a passion for writing and creative industries plus Physical Education and the outdoors too. Mr Bryant and Miss White will be working together to ensure a smooth transition of the Year Five programme. Do have a very enjoyable and hopefully relaxing Easter holiday in your bubble and I will communicate directly with you once the government announces what our alert level will be after the end of the initial four-week lockdown period.
Stay safe and see you on the other side.
Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

HOUSE WARS
ACG Sunderland 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland
Tik Tok House War As some of you may already know, ACG Sunderland’s student leaders announced a challenge for all Sunderland students on the Sunderland Houses’ Instagram page (@Sunderland Houses) on Monday. To bring people together during the quarantine period, we would like people to spend some time creating a Tik Tok. Students are encouraged to submit a short video of themselves (or edit their friends in as well) dancing to the Sunderland Houses’ Instagram page which will be judged at the end of the holidays. This contest generates house points and the winners will be contributing to this year’s inter-house competition, therefore we highly recommend students participate to give their House the best chance of winning. The criteria for these Tik Toks can be found on the Sunderland Instagram page or on Blackboard under announcements. Videos can be submitted through direct message to the Sunderland Houses’ Instagram page or they can be sent to this email: Sunderlandhouses@gmail.com We look forward to seeing your Tik Toks.
Good Luck!

College Song Lyrics She Is She’s a fighter Like a flaming ball Full of dangerous tools And a rock-hard attitude But she’s a lover Heart that’s never old Kindness is all she knows She’s a top-notch warrior
She’s beautiful Eyes are made of gold, lips like a rose The sun will never know That the moon can be seen without its glow She’s a mess in distress Nothing is ever new Can’t wake up, that’s enough No more light in her room, and she is She’s a crier Tries too hard Daddy’s precious little girl No make-up, can’t shut up
She’s beautiful Eyes are made of gold, lips like a rose The sun will never know That the moon can be seen without its glow

Hiding I can see you staring staring into space you just don’t to be here you wanna leave this place Suddenly you look at me with those heartbroken eyes I ask you if you’re okay just to hear the pouring lies Hiding the hurt, hiding the pain, hiding all your tears that fall like the rain. Saying you’re fine when your anything but. An ache in your soul that rips at your gut Created this inside of you this darkness and this pain when all I ever wanted was for your happiness to gain Nobody really knows you They only know your cover. But I wish I could let it free. Let them know what's under. Hiding the hurt, hiding the pain, hiding all your tears that fall like the rain. Saying you’re fine when your anything but. An ache in your soul that rips at your gut I knew you had everything in the world to lose but I still managed to do this to you Hiding the hurt, hiding the pain, Hiding the tears that fall like rain. Saying I'm fine when I'm anything but. This ache in my soul rips at my gut.
Feeling a little bit anxious We’re at inside Away from the beautiful sky With homework by my side I can not stand all of that As I wake up sit beside Logging on my zoom account Twenty minutes passed I throw my iPad across Feeling a little bit anxious Feeling a little bit depressed
Suddenly my lunch was ready And I left my room in a hurry With my stomach quarrelling to myself I sit I sit I sit Sitting pass the whole day until the night finally came And I’m set off free Feeling a little bit anxious Feeling a little bit depressed
Is this the isolation life? Then I rather want to be at school Feeling a little bit anxious Feeling a little bit depressed 6

Life
Nostalgia
I can see the rain. So dark and cold, tonight. Want to run and hide but I can’t. I just can’t.
Downy flakes fall swiftly past The glow of the streetlight A sprinkle of white flurries Cast against the dark of night
Out of the blue, a strange old man came walking to me. I asked him who he was and he disappeared. Sometimes life is pointless, and sometimes life is weird. But deep inside I know, that we are here for a reason. Sometimes life is crazy, and sometimes life is freaking insane! But deep inside I know, the reason why we’re here, is to help your fellow man. When the old man, disappeared. I knew for a fact that I was next, so I started to run, I ran so fast outta there. When I got home and sat on my couch I realised, I shouldn’t have been there. Because I should have been home. Sometimes life is pointless, and sometimes life is weird. But deep inside I know, that we are here for a reason. Sometimes life is crazy, and sometimes life is freaking insane! But deep inside I know, the reason why we’re here, is to help your fellow man. And then I realised, that it was my fault, that old man died. Sometimes life is pointless, and sometimes life is weird. But deep inside I know, that we are here for a reason. Sometimes life is crazy, and sometimes life is freaking insane! But deep inside I know, the reason why we’re here, is to help your fellow man.
I see you in the distance Camouflaged by the snow You bring back all those memories That I have longed to know Some days I wish I could go back in life To feel our friendship twice You glance at me Like I am a stranger You turn back, I see your in danger The I call out your name You look back repeatedly And glare, like I’m an opposer Some days I wish I could go back in life To feel our friendship twice Have I mistaken this person? Or am I at fault, but then I Realise that your just as I thought Some days I wish I could go back in life To feel our friendship twice
