ACG SUNDERLAND
WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 15, Term One, Week One, 31 January 2020 Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland A huge welcome to ACG Sunderland 2020 for our existing and, in particular, all of our new students. The beginning of the year has started remarkably smoothly, even with the challenges of the coronavirus. I would like to begin by thanking everyone for their cooperation with the precautionary measures that we currently have in place. We are continuing to review our processes but there have been no further changes in the past 48 hours. We do have a number of children who are currently away from their classes and these children will be returning in the next couple of week, depending on when they arrived in New Zealand. There will be support mechanisms in place to ease their transition back into class. ACG Sunderland’s overall Cambridge pass rates for 2019 show an incredibly high level of achievement. A Level: 100% AS Level: 86% IGCSE Level: 80% The AS Level pass rates were particularly pleasing, with an exceptional increase of 7% on our 2018 results. At A Level, 41% of papers were graded with A* or A (80% or better) which reflects a 29% improvement, while at AS level, 37% of papers received an A grade result. Underscoring our academic success, ACG Sunderland has received a total of four Cambridge Awards including: 2 Top in the World 1 Top in New Zealand 1 High Achievement (Top in New Zealand for a smaller subject)
ACG Sunderland 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland
Leading Year Twelve scholar, Junheng (David) Li, received Top in the World for AS Level Mathematics, scoring 100%, and Top in New Zealand for AS Level Chemistry, with a score of 96%. Additionally, Chase Leathard took Top in the World honours for AS Level Physical Education, and Erin Geraghty was awarded High Achievement in AS Level English Language. As the number of Cambridge International students continues to grow around the world, it is becoming ever more challenging to achieve top outcomes. With that in mind, these results are an outstanding accolade, not only for our school and teaching staff, but also for the Sunderland students and their families. I believe these strong results reflect the hard work and dedication of all students and staff across the board. I am so very proud of the efforts of all the students here at Sunderland. The House Leaders were given a copy of the following article to assist them into their roles.
The most effective form of leadership is born out of the sincere desire and proven ability to make a positive contribution. Those who lead best are those for whom leadership itself is not the primary aim. True leadership is not embodied in a position or title. True leadership arises from an exemplary life of making positive, valuable contributions that inspire others to do the same.
The most successful leaders have no interest in telling others what to do. Successful leaders are those who promote and support conditions in which each person can act with effectiveness and experience fulfillment in his or her own special way. Great leaders are not those who claim to have all the answers or to solve every problem. Great leaders lead by example rather than by proclamation. To be a leader, be a shining example. Do precisely that which you would lead others to do, and do it spectacularly. Leadership at its best enlarges upon the sincere and productive efforts of the leader. Make those efforts the best they can be, and they'll result in true, effective leadership. Week Two Organisation
