Dear ACG Sunderland Community By the time you read this edition of our Newsletter, we will have had two days teaching and learning face to face back under the bricks and mortar here at ACG Sunderland! Initially, we thought we would have 75% of students returning but actually, that number was up over 80% once we calculated all the children that attended lessons on Friday. I have been really impressed how Staff and Students alike have been respecting the new Alert Level 2 safe health and hygiene practises. With good physical distancing, entry and exit of classroom procedures and general respectful behaviour.

Each day Admin staff have been temperature checking students and staff on entry. Can I please request that parents wait until your child has been cleared with their temperature checking. If they do indeed have an inflated temperature, they must return home. I also wish to remind parents that College students enter from the main entrance side and the Primary from the Preschool end of the school. As highlighted earlier this week in my letter to parents – Examinations for Years Five to Thirteen will take place from Tuesday 9 June to Friday 12 June. Therefore, staff will complete marking and begin report writing over the July holidays with full school reports due week two of Term Three and Parent Teacher interviews now pushed out to week three – 4/5 August. With the transition from Alert Level 3 to Level 2, parents have embraced the movement back to face to face learning. Therefore, most classes will be moving to a hybrid teaching state. With the focus being on the students in class we are now using more technology in class with multidirectional microphone and numerous devices to engage those children still at home into the lesson taking place here at school.
We appreciate your decision making when it comes to some parents keeping their children away from school due to perceived risks from Covid-19. However, I wish to reiterate that the team and I here at ACG Sunderland are doing all we can to generate a safe learning environment for everyone.

Title: The Arts House War As some of you may already know, ACG Sunderland’s student leaders announced a challenge for all Sunderland students on the Sunderland Houses’ Instagram page (@sunderlandhouses). To keep people creative during this extended quarantine period, the leaders are encouraging students to submit their best artwork, digital or physical or submit a video of them singing or playing an instrument. Students are encouraged to submit this work to Sunderland Houses’ Instagram page or to Sunderlandhouses@gmail.com which will be judged on the 25 May. This contest generates House points and the winners will be contributing to this year’s inter-house competition. In addition, it is a good opportunity for students to display their music or artwork. Therefore, we highly recommend students participate to give their house the best chance of winning. The criteria for this activity can be found on the Sunderland Houses Instagram page or on Blackboard under announcements.
