ACG SUNDERLAND

WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 15, Term Two, Week Seven, 11 June 2020

Dear ACG Sunderland Community This week has been examination week for students in Year Five to Year Thirteen and I know the vast majority of students have worked incredibly hard with their revision programmes and examination technique. Over the course of the next week, students will receive their results back as staff mark the scripts and give feedback. More than ever, students and parents are reminded that these examination results are a ‘line in the sand’ and are an indication of how our students learning has progressed pre, during and post the lockdown period. As we have said before, these are unprecedented times and students will react in different ways to the stresses and uncertainty that was generated due to Covid-19. even now, when we find ourselves in Alert Level One, some parents are students are still struggling.

Over the course of the next two weeks, staff will go through the assessments and students will see where their strengths and weaknesses lie. This is a critical period, I do urge parents to engage with your children over this phase, they will need support if they did not achieve as expected.

Reports will be distributed at the beginning of Term Three, with Parent Teacher interviews taking place on Wednesday, 5 August and Thursday, 6 August for both College and Primary. Thank you once again for all your support over this challenging time.

OPEN DAY – SATURDAY 20 JUNE – 10.30AM TO 2.30PM

After thirteen years here at Sunderland, Catherine Ferguson has decided to resign and finishes up this week. Catherine joined the school at its infancy, with less than 150 students, she has seen it grow to well over 500 today. Cath has huge institutional knowledge of our school, being directly involved with enrolments, attendance, reporting to the Ministry of Education, Educational Review office, the new parents, Breakfast speakers, school wide events, a direct line to Santa’s online booking for a great sleigh each year, let alone being my PA for all that time. Cath has been wonderfully supportive of me and my family, remembering Christmas and birthdays of my children. A special moment was babysitting Fabian during Prizegiving so Mrs Villars could be on stage with me to give out prizes. She leaves to take up new opportunities and a business too, in a field that is dear to her heart, Hot Rodding!

I wish Cath all the very best for her new endeavours and remind her she is always welcome here at Sunderland. I wish to personally thank Sixiang [Jack] Feng and Hengyang [Lee] Li and their family for the immense donation of hand sanitiser to ACG Sunderland and consequently to various Nursing Homes in the community. Jack, Leo and Mr Stephan's delivered boxes to local nursing homes over the past two weeks, with staff so very grateful considering how hard it is to source supplies. There is an extreme feeling of pride in this photo and actions.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

Nathan Villars Campus Principal ACG Sunderland

Editors Footnote: To my Sunderland family, thank you for all your support over the years. I have absolutely loved watching your children grow, getting to know them and you and to celebrate in their successes albeit that they remembered their PE gear! We have the most incredible and dedicated staff, they are instrumental in their successes. I remain a Westie and I hope to see you at our local coffee shops or restaurants, etc., and if you hear the car before you see it, it’s probably me ☺ I will miss you all, very much. Much aroha, Cath Ferguson 2
