ACG SUNDERLAND
WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 15, Term One, Week Nine, 27 March 2020
Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland
The last time I wrote my newsletter only last week, no one was talking about a lockdown – well certainly not so quickly. However, here we are all locked down at home with our nuclear families, mountains of toilet paper, food and of course technology. By the time you read this communication, we will be into day three of teaching our virtual classrooms and from my perspective it seems to be progressing really well. I have been so very impressed with how your kids, from preschool to Year 13 have adapted to the use of Zoom particularly. We are using four forms of technology to communicate to your children. In the College it is Blackboard to deliver content and Zoom for the face to face virtual classroom. In the Primary we use Classdojo for delivery and Zoom for face to face, and in Preschool, Sue and her team are using StoryPark and Zoom too. The feedback from parents has been positive too and I welcome that you email your children’s teacher or myself with your own particular experience. We currently are putting a survey together that we will distribute in the next week or so to capture some more formal feedback from you all. I know that our interpretation of the next four weeks may well be different than the state schools. As you know by now, our Term One will finish on Tuesday 7th April and the children will then be on holiday for two weeks, returning to their lessons on Thursday 23rd April – potentially the end of the lockdown.

To be clear, our staff are prepared to continue the virtual lessons beyond the 23 rd April if the Government do indeed extend this current lockdown. As expressed earlier, I have been so very impressed with the engagement of your children with this process however, fatigue and burnout are real possibilities particularly if the lockdown is extended. I do draw your attention to our Virtual School Guide, emailed out a number of times. There is material in this document with regards light, posture, set up, plus on personal hygiene too. I do also want to remind students and parents about pacing workload and expectation. I will also be reminding staff of this too. If there is any more we can do as a staff to assist in this challenging time please email the staff member concerned or myself directly.
Enjoy this forced time with your family and see you on the other side.
Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

He has thoroughly enjoyed the interaction, involvement and thinking time. You have done a great job getting this up and running (and working) so quickly. This is so important to help keep things "normal“. Long may the enthusiasm last.
