ACG SUNDERLAND
WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 15, Term Two, Week Nine, 26 June 2020
Dear ACG Sunderland Community
Staff and students alike have earned a break over the next three weeks after everyone recovers from what really has been a twenty-two-week term! This unprecedented Covid-19 period is now part of the history of New Zealand. Unfortunately, it continues ravage much of the population of this world, as different countries battle with their own solution variations to try and control this pandemic. As Principal of Sunderland, I am very aware of the challenges many families have been forced to face over the past eight to ten weeks and may continue to face moving forward. The financial and emotional impact has been significant.
What I would like to do is to reassure you all that in fact, almost all your children have weathered this challenge like the troopers they are and have continued to achieve in all aspects of their lives, as we push through the other side of this pandemic here in New Zealand. The resilience demonstrated by our students has actually been quite remarkable, and quite different from the stories colleagues share with me from other schools. The staff of Sunderland have not only been able to continue the teaching and learning process virtually and face to face, but have been instrumental in supporting your children through this very challenging roller coaster.
ACG Sunderland 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland
I am confident that from Year One to Year Thirteen, students will be able to lean on these experiences as they navigate life beyond this Covid-19 period. In saying all that, many staff in the College will be here at school during the holidays, offering tutorials for our senior students, as they continue to prepare for the external Cambridge examinations – set for the end of the year. Many of you will know that the May/June Cambridge examination session did not take place this year. Therefore, as a school, we must prepare some contingency measures to make sure our students have the very best predicated grades possible if the November sessions do not take place. I will keep the student body and parents informed with how this unfolds over the coming weeks. Also, to reiterate previous communications, school reports will be sent home on Friday 31 July and Parent/Teacher interviews will take place on Wednesday 5 August and Thursday 6 August. Thank you all again, as a parent body, for your support of our school and style of teaching of learning. We recognise you have choice and I personally wish to thank you for continuing to choose ACG Sunderland. Have a good break over this three week period with your children – you all deserve it.
Aspire. Succeed. Respect.
