Assessment in Kindergarten Philosophy

Process

- Assessment is an essential part of the teaching and learning process. - Assessment supports and encourages learning by students - Students and educators should be actively engaged in assessing the students’ progress. - Assessment for learning (formative assessment) is on-going and provide continual feedback to both the teacher and the student. The data collected from formative assessments, guides and modifies planning, teaching and learning. - Assessment of learning (summative assessment) provide clear evidence of students’ current knowledge, understanding, abilities and attitudes.

- Gathering information about a child in different ways - Reviewing the information - Using the information to plan learning experiences which support a child’s interest and also develop their skills, knowledge and understanding. - Assessment is a critical part of a high-quality kindergarten programme.

In order to be prepared for lifelong learning and conduct purposeful inequity, children need to practice a range of skills which are relevant to all subject areas as well as life outside school. These skills are taught and assessed within each UOI.

Portfolio entries document both the learning process and the product. It enables students to reflect with teachers, parents and peers in order to identify their strengths and growth, as well as areas for improvement.

Seesaw is designed to be child-led. This means that, as a school, we will actively encourage your child to take ownership of their work and share this with you.

Seesaw will provide a safe digital learning journal for your child to document their learning creatively by periodically adding entries to it like photos, videos, drawings and notes to show you what they’re doing in class.

Reporting Reporting a child’s learning growth will be through regular and frequent feedback throughout the school year.
