WINGS NEWSLETTER Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland

Vol 16, Term Three, Week Eight, 11 September 2020

Our attendance rates are up - over 90% in all classes! Thank you for your support and confidence in this area. Senior mock examinations have gone very positively this week. I have spoken to many students in the atrium before their exam sessions and most seem relaxed and confident – even after two lockdown periods. I think this confidence is generated by the quality of teaching and support the entire school has experienced during these unprecedented times. Students will have all their results back in the next week or so. A huge thank you to Mr Stephens for his organisation of these examinations. As documented last week, with Auckland still at Alert Level 2.5, no sports games are currently taking place. However, practices here at school are still possible. We will have a much better idea of where Auckland will end up regarding alert levels early next week. With this uncertainty, the ball committee have decided to cancel the 2020 ball. This was a hard, disappointing decision – but the right one. We will make sure all the graduates from 2020 are invited to next years event. Senior management have decided that our last Open Day to be held on the 19th September will take place.

ACG Sunderland Open Day, Saturday 19 September 10.30am – 2.30pm

We are confident, even with restrictions on numbers that we can run a successful event. Mrs Chartrand and Mr Stephens will be in touch regarding student guides for the next weeks event. You will have seen my email earlier in the week with regards to the concerning TikTok video circulating. We understand this video is of a suicide. Unfortunately, the horrific images and video content are only too common on many social media sites and this is a timely reminder for all parents to be aware and mindful of what content your children are watching and digesting on their devices. Can I suggest you all have conversations this weekend with your children about inappropriate content etc. And finally, if you are intending to move your child from ACG Sunderland for 2021, you are required by the contract of enrolment to give one terms notice. I do require this written notice by the 25th September. Have a wonderful weekend and keep safe.

Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

The Student Voice!

ACG Sunderland 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland

Week 7 was our first week back at school after our second lockdown. We’ve continued learning at home through zoom with the help of our supportive teachers. Online learning was productive, but we had more fun meeting our friends and teachers at school, interacting with them. Everyone was excited to learn back at school. We couldn’t keep our lockdown stories to ourselves. We never stopped talking in interval and lunch. Seniors and some of the year 10s started revising for mock exams. For Seniors, mock exams started on Week 7 Friday, and the year 10 Extended Science students have their mock exams on week 8, Monday and Wednesday. It’s their first mock exams which is a lot of pressure, but all science teachers have been encouraging and supportive. I’ve been studying for this as well and I was worried that I couldn’t keep up since we couldn’t follow the right schedule during the two lockdowns. However, my science teacher has helped me and my classmates as best as she could, so that everyone is in the right place ready for the exams. All teachers and students are delighted that everyone is back to school. I believe that everyone is having a great time at school learning something new every day. We are looking forward to all the wonderful days that will come for this term.

Written by Eunchae Ahn (year 10)

Coming back to school has been incredibly relieving and enjoyable so far. We can finally socialise and interact physically with our friends and teachers again! Learning has also become so much easier and less stressful compared to lockdown. I am very glad that things are now back to normal and I hope it stays like this. Written by Jessie Wu (year 8)
