ACG SUNDERLAND

WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 17, Term One, Week Seven, 12 March 2021

Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland It really has been wonderful being back at ‘face to face’ teaching this week. I think teachers, parents, and students alike are acutely aware of how effective the personal approach to education is versus how impersonal online learning can be. We are aware that the ACG model of remote learning is the Gold standard, and my teachers here at Sunderland do a superb job. Yet nothing will replace that intimate learning experience here at Sunderland. With the movement to Alert Level 2 this week, all sports is now well underway again. I wish to thank all our coaches and managers with how they have seamlessly got all teams active in both the Primary and College. We have been able to complete all the individual photos this week, and so you will get more information about purchasing these photos from PhotoLife in due course.

Interim School Reports will be distributed at the end of today, with Parent / Teacher interviews taking place next week for both the Primary and the College. I am sure most parents will be looking forward to having feedback on their children’s progress, both face to face and with the online lessons, too.

OPEN DAY – SATURDAY 27 MARCH FROM 10.30AM TO 2.30PM

ACG Sunderland 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland

I am sure most parents will be looking forward to having feedback on their children’s progress, both face to face and with the online lessons, too. We appreciate that there is always a limited amount of time on the night of Parent / Teacher interviews, so please do not hesitate to make another appointment at a mutually convenient time if so required. Hopefully, we will be moving to Alert Level 1 this weekend – please enjoy the newly acquired freedom and I look forward to seeing / catching up with many of you next week.

Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

College Possum Plows Possum Plows, the lead singer from the group Openside, will be visiting our school on Friday March 19 and April 9. This is part of the NZ Music Commission’s “Musicians in Schools Mentoring Programme”. In the mornings she’ll be working with Senior Music students, honing their band performance skills. She’ll also be helping the songwriters in this class develop their pieces. At lunch time she’ll work with our school’s singing group, Taylor Maid. The aim of these sessions is to help improve vocal technique and confidence. Finally, in the afternoon, Possum will be working with a Year 9 band, “Sweet Can’t Wait”. This band is keen to write and perform their own material. They also will be entering RockQuest this year. Possum will help them on their way by working with them on their song and stage craft. Notices New Violin Teacher - Fiona Haughton

I am very pleased to announce that we will be having a new violin teacher start at ACG Sunderland. Teaching is something she is very passionate about. She holds a Bachelor of Music, with first class honours, from Victoria University in Wellington. She also has a Master’s Degree in Music from the University of British Columbia. She has played in a number of professional music organisations such as The NZ Symphony Orchestra and the NZ Opera Company. Mrs. Haughton has a great deal of experience as a violin instructor. She uses the Suzuki method as it is a well-proven and successful teaching pedagogy.

Her lessons will be on a Monday at Sunderland, starting the 15 March. Lessons will take place during the school day. If you are interested in your child taking violin lessons, then please do contact Mrs. Haughton directly to set up a time. mfhaughton@gmail.com At reception, there is a pamphlet entitled “Itinerant Music Lessons”. This form should be completed and given to Mr. O’Connor (via reception) before lessons start. This document outlines the costs and expectations that go with instrument Music lessons at our school. I would also like to let parents know that we have four, good quality, full sized violins that are available to be borrowed. There is no rental fee for these. I do hope a large number of students will be keen to take up violin lessons with Mrs. Haughton. We are very lucky to have her as our new string teacher. If you have any other questions about classroom or the itinerant music programme. Please do contact me. daniel.oconnor@acgedu.com

ACG Sunderland Students Invoices As I mentioned during January, we moved to a new finance system at the start of the year. The implementation has gone smoothly and we’d like to thank parents who have amended their reference when making payment by bank transfer to the Communication Reference Number. A small number of parents have not recognised the noreply-jde@inspirededu.com address that the invoices have been sent from, or have found that the emails have gone direct to junk. If you can please check these points if information is not coming through and, as always, please contact [EMAIL] at [NAME] or [NUMBER] if you have any accounts questions.
