ACG SUNDERLAND
WINGS NEWSLETTER
Vol 17, Term Three, Week Eight, 17 September 2021
Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland, It has almost been five weeks for Auckland in Lockdown Alert Level 4 and fingers crossed we move down to Alert Level 3 next Wednesday – with an announcement by the Prime Minister due on Monday afternoon. Hopefully, this move to Alert Level 3 will initiate a confirmed move to at least Level 2 in a further week, allowing some level of normality to prevail here in our city. No doubt, like me, you have been listening to the news stories, particularly out of Europe, about the growing use of a vaccination passport becoming mandatory for almost all “out of home” activities, from going to a movie, to a café and for all countries, getting on a flight. In time, this will occur here in New Zealand too. New Zealand has been marketing hard to get the entire population vaccinated, and I certainly endorse this messaging. During this lockdown, there is an opportunity to get yourselves and your over 12’s out and vaccinated with at least your first jab. I know most of the staff have been taking this opportunity.
OPEN DAY – 30 OCTOBER 2021 10.30am – 2.30pm
ACG Sunderland 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland
With only one week of the school term remaining, we will invariably drop down another Alert Level during the holiday period. I know Mr Stephens is putting in place a tutorial programme for at least the second week of the holidays for our senior students, with more details to come. Hopefully, Sunderland will start back in Term 4 at Alert Level 2. I will then communicate with you all about the protocols which we will put in place to maintain the safety of us all. Have a wonderful weekend. I will communicate again early next week.
Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

Colouring Competition – NZ Cancer Society Kia Ora, This term, ACG Sunderland is supporting the 'NZ Cancer Society' for our Term 3 charity. The Cancer Society of New Zealand is currently the leading non-government organisation dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of cancer and ensuring cancer care for everyone in New Zealand. It is an independent charity. With recent Lockdowns, our fundraising events at school has been a challenge. Nonetheless, we have put in place a Colouring Competition for the students to do during the lockdown period. Students received an email from their House Leaders with a PDF File of the Colouring Sheet. Once we are back in school, they can submit their sheet at Reception with a simple gold coin donation. With this year's Street Appeal for Daffodil Day cancelled, donating through our school is the perfect opportunity for you to show your support! You may also directly donate to the NZ Cancer Society via this link below: https://www.daffodilday.org.nz/acgsunderland Thank you so much for your help, Stay Safe! Fight for Survival: The End After a few moments, the door swung open and the boy almost cowered in fear of the figure standing before him. Almost. He was tall with his brown hair cut military style, but his brown eyes where the colour of hot chocolate and looked warm, loving, and inviting. “What are you doing out here in this weather?” he asked in a genuinely concerned tone, “come in and we’ll get you warmed up.” He moved to the side, offering a glimpse of the interior of the cottage. It was surprisingly neat and looked comfortable, so the boy took a risk and stepped inside. The man closed the door behind them, banishing the cold winds from the room. The boy looked – mesmerised by the flickering flames in the fireplace. He was enveloped in a warmth he had grown to forget and moved closer to the source of the heat. The man let him stay there and went to the small kitchen to brew some hot chocolate. When he returned to the living room, the boy was in the exact same place the man had left him. The boy swung around at the sound of his footsteps and instantly relaxed at the sight of the man. The man nodded towards one of the two chairs, offering him a seat. The boy obliged and carefully placed himself in the cushioned chair. He sunk into it, as it was the first time he’d felt comfortable and safe in quite a few years. The man offered the boy one of the mugs of hot chocolate he had in his hands. He accepted it, cradling it in his hands. “What’s your name kid?” the man asked, breaking the silence, “mine’s Fred.” The boy looked at him strangely before answering in a timid voice; “Luke.” “Well Luke, you’re welcome to stay here as long as you like.” “Thank you sir.” And so the boy did stay. Sipping hot chocolate in front of the fire while they waited out the storm. The End By Isheeta Lal - Year 9

Dessert Rap Hey everybody, this is a rap! Get ready to be stuck in a sugar trap Chocolates, cupcakes and so much more Pastries, cakes, and sweets galore. All these mouth-watering foods, they’re great, I know So sit down, relax, and just enjoy the show Let’s start with ice-cream so creamy and bold But remember one thing, it’s nice and cold. Cakes are nice, just not with rice Don’t be so shy, just take a slice Cupcakes are smaller, but still the best When you start munching, you can’t take a rest. (So come on…and be my guest). Donuts are great to have a quick munch You even eat the sprinkles which go ‘crunch!’ So many flavours and so hard to choose So start the feast, there’s nothing to lose. Brownies are chewy and super easy to make Mix the batter and put it in the oven to bake Decorated with whipped cream, or anything you want You can’t say no to this… You just can’t! Now you know why I love them all Even though some are a little small Desserts are amazing, desserts, desserts, desserts! By Savera Sidhu - Year 8

Disastrous Hardware This is a rap All about everything ‘top-ware So boot up your laptop and get into gear! The first thin’ [after login] you see’s definitely not me A bunch o’ bloatware, none that you need Ignoring them, you start up ‘Chrome And surf n’ roam To waken your CPU That’s totally ready for a day a-new. It begins to hyperventilate and overclock But nonetheless y’ open up Photoshop Startling the GPU, how rude! It potentially might not even be in the mood… Fans at full blast Dunno how long they’ll last Blowing into your curtains like they’re Superman’s cape Cold air force-fed right into your nape I hope ev’rythings… ok? Your rooms now a sauna With a heaty aura The processing units now dead tired Pleading “pls let us be retired!” But you leave ‘em out for another hire And apply tons of effects in Lightroom Which exhausts them till your laptop refus’s to boot.

Your beloved device has now set alight They were so stressed they just burst ‘to fire! Your mind now in a hassle The rooms sprinklers sprayin’ drizzles You jump out the window in a hurry Your leather coat now drenched like t’was dipped in curry! Next destination, the local market You go to grab a few oranges but forget you don’t’ve a basket Using your bare hands you stock up on bread and rye Then head to the tech store and think, “What’ll I buy?” But to prevent history and its repetition I rec’mmend you’ve a pretty good think And check for any bugs n’ kinks Before buying any available competition.

ACG Sunderland Students Invoices As mentioned in January, we moved to a new finance system at the start of the year. The implementation has gone smoothly and we’d like to thank parents who have amended their reference when making payment by bank transfer to the Communication Ref No. A small number of parents have not recognised the noreply-jde@inspirededu.com address that the invoices have been sent from, or have found that the emails have gone direct to junk. If you can please check these points if information is not coming through and, as always, please contact Mandy Allen at mandy.allen@acgedu.com or 09 838 7070 if you have any accounts questions.
No Cheque payments from 22 June 2021 ACG Sunderland will not be accepting or issuing cheques from Tuesday 22 June 2021. Payments need to be made online or over the counter with Eftpos or Credit Cards (2% surcharge). Please note that both the café and reception cannot provide any cash-out services. 14

UBIQ has taken the decision to not proceed with second-hand buyback purchasing for the 2022 academic year. This is not a decision they have taken lightly as they feel it is a valuable service to provide to the students, and families attending ACG. However, in light of recent and ongoing outbreaks of the highly transmissible Delta variant of Covid-19 in the community and subsequent alert level changes, they strongly feel the need for ongoing caution and care. Even more so given the size of the campus we are based on, and recent cases that created exposure events on campus. For this reason, UBIQ are uncomfortable putting their staff, ACG students and their families in a position of risk. UBIQ sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this will cause and look forward to a safer 2022.
