WINGS NEWSLETTER Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland
Vol 16, Term Three, Week Nine, 18 September 2020
It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of the penultimate week, with only one week to go of this term. In the College, examinations are over, and students have been receiving their marked scripts back this week as staff use this precious time to review and reflect on their strengths and perhaps where weakness have occurred in their exams. Staff will convey as much of this detail as possible by the end of next week and before the holidays begin. On that note, staff will again be making themselves available during the holiday period – offering tutorials in most Senior subjects. Mr Stephens is currently putting the tutorial timetable together and this will be released in due course. For the Senior students, reports will be issued during the holidays with feedback and more importantly, feed forward as we head to the final high-stake examinations. So that everyone is clear, ACG Sunderland will be able to offer the suite of Cambridge Examinations even in Level Three. We wish to convey this with some confidence to parents and students alike. In the Primary, we will recognize Maori Language week next week and I know Mrs Chartrand and her team have some exciting activities for all the children.
ACG Sunderland Open Day, Postponed to 17 October
ACG Sunderland 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland
Mrs Debbie Sangprong has been in the school this week, meeting all the children who will be starting in her class next term. She currently has twelve children who will be starting as New Entrants. On Tuesday of this week and next, the new children also come into school to see what Sunderland life is going to be about and remove any concerns the children may well have. We look forward to welcoming all new children and staff at our first assembly next term, when certificates and badges will be awarded. Thank you in advance for your support of this day.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

Science in Year 8 In science, the Year Eights are currently learning about food. The main thing we learnt in this topic was ‘How to have a healthy diet’ and other factors that lead to a healthy lifestyle. This topic was particularly relevant during lockdown. In this recent lockdown, I know it has been hard for many students including myself, to get enough exercise due to the spontaneous weather. However I realised that there are other ways to exercise indoors. You could dance, do some sit-ups or push-ups, lift weights and even jog on the spot! Another important factor of staying healthy is to have a healthy diet. During this topic, we learnt about the food groups. It included some information like what to eat more of and less of, sources of food groups and appropriate servings we should eat per day. I learnt that eggs are high in protein so we should have at least one serving of eggs and other foods that are high in protein such as nuts or meat per day. We are back to school now which is great. I hope that everyone can incorporate this knowledge into our day to have a healthy lifestyle. Remember that we can do easy workout routines anytime and anywhere. Perhaps we could do some stretches before bed or pack a healthier lunch. Either way this knowledge will help us throughout our lives and aid us in making critical decisions. English in Year 10 Coming back to school is like starting another year again. I would fill in my locker again, check my schedules and check my classrooms again. Personally it felt like I had my school life on a complete pause and now it’s like hitting the play button again. It is tough getting back to the normal school routine but it’s nice re-connecting with teachers and peers. Trying to build relationships felt new and fresh as well. Lockdown was a nice break and now we are restarting and remaking our lives which is awesome. After we came back to school, we are learning about directed writing in English. We’ve been writing different types of texts every day. So far, we’ve written in styles of leaflets, emails, letters, and journal entries. It was interesting that you could write in so many different styles. Written by Krisha Prasad (year 10)
