ACG SUNDERLAND WINGS NEWSLETTER
Vol 18, Term Four, Week Seven, 25 November 2022
Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland,
On Monday afternoon, Mr Robson and I visited many of the camps that over 300 of our Year 6 11 (inclusive) students attended from Monday Wednesday.
The camps were in great spirits, even with the Spring weather challenging some of the activities.
From tramps to high rope courses to mountain biking and confidence courses with river crossings and mud, I’m sure our young students are taking advantage of all these opportunities.
This is the first time since 2019 that Sunderland has been able to return to our normal ‘Outdoor Education’ programme with all students from Year 3 13 having the opportunity to take part in our challenging yet safe programme.
With over 300 children away, this required all the college staff plus several primary staff to assist in this programme which is just wonderful. I would suggest no other school currently can accommodate so many of their young people away con currently.
Please check the lost property box for your children’s lost uniforms before close of school on Tuesday 6 December.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for taking part in this important activity, and in particular Mr Keen for his overall leadership of this programme for the College.
Mrs Chartrand has stepped in this year to lead the Year 6 camp as both our teachers are on maternity leave special thanks to Mrs Trew and Mrs Hasan for also attending this special camp to the far north.
On Tuesday, our Year 1 children visited the Royal Heights Rest Home, where we have been attending for the past 15 years pre Covid. The feedback from Mrs Butler was very positive with our young ones singing Christmas carols to the residents.
I see we arrived home from the rest home with dozens of balloons too!
Also, on Tuesday the Fire Service visited our Year 1 2 classes and again the feedback from Mrs Butler was so very positive. Hopefully, this little Spring storm subsides for the weekend, and we can enjoy some family time before everything gears up for Prizegiving and then the lead up to Christmas.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

Under 2’s Room
In the Under Two's room, the babies used their senses to explore and learn. We enjoyed using bubbles to explore this week. The bubbles have been blown, chased, and popped by our babies. Exploring with bubbles improves hand eye coordination and develops motor skills. Bubbles excite babies' curiosity, encouraging them to explore their surroundings with their senses.
Junior Room
This week, our Junior Room was so busy exploring our indoor and outdoor environment. There were groups of children by the sandpit and obstacle course working as a team. Inside, our group activity was focusing on shapes; big and small; and numbers.
All the children happily explored their environment and used their ingenuity. They seem to have a very good understanding of what is happening around them and developing relationships with others in regard to turn taking, sharing and communicating.

Early Learning School
The Senior Room children had another busy week with lots of activities and learning involved in all areas of their development. During group times, Kiwi children were learning to identify the first letter sound of their names, Pukeko tamariki were working on number recognition, and counting to 10., while the Piwakawaka children revisited the positional language involved ‘on top, under, behind, in between, inside, and around.'

Parents and Friends Committee
Dear Parents and Friends of ACG Sunderland
ACG Sunderland is an independent school whose students are of incredibly diverse ethnicity. From pre school to senior college the school strives to help their students achieve their full potential. The Parents and Friends Committee works alongside this aim of the school.
Parents and Friends is a committee run by volunteers all, unsurprisingly, are friends or families of the school! The committee raises funds to cover items of benefit to the students that are not covered by school fees. In the past this has included such things as donations to the school ball, shade sails over playgrounds, cricket nets, and the planting of a hedge for privacy at the front of the primary playground.
All activities run by Parents and Friends are fun, social activities that help to instil a feeling of belonging throughout all families attending the school. Meetings take place on the first Thursday of every month at 8.30am in the staffroom. Please let Mrs Sonya Eldridge know if you are interested in joining the committee by email: sonya.eldridge@acgedu.com
The next meeting is Thursday 1 December 2022.

Sunderland on Service at ACG Sunderland
Dear parents and students, as you maybe knowing service is a crucial value that should be practised by all ages. Here at Sunderland we want to recognise those who already do active selfless service at home or in their community, but most importantly we would like those who don’t really do active service to be given a chance and to be educated about service, and this can be reached through Sunderland On Service (S.O.S).
What is our Mission statement?
To develop the values of service and respect by helping others in our school and community.
To actively contribute within our communities, display values of selflessness, enthusiasm and determination.
How to get involved or get your badge?
We will be putting up information about different activities that can be done on our notice board and will be posting more information soon. You can collect a sheet at reception to fill in with your hours or find it on blackboard, and it can be handed back to reception so that we can award you for your outstanding service.
Anything you want to count as your hours should be done as a volunteer, meaning you shouldn’t be paid for doing it. Remember to keep the service age appropriate.
