This week, and two days into next week, are the Mock Examinations, an opportunity for our senior students to be tested as they near the Cambridge assessment, to give students, staff, and parents some genuine feedback on their progress. Perhaps more importantly is the feedforward which students will receive as they head into the holidays and their study leave.
ACG WINGSSUNDERLANDNEWSLETTERVol18,TermThree,WeekSix,2September2022 Open Day - 17 September 10.30am – 2.30pm
This week is a bitter sweet one for Mrs Sue Revill, our current Preschool Manager. After six years at Sunderland, Sue has decided the time is right for her to retire from Sunderland and the industry she has been involved with for 40 years.
I know the vast majority of the students have prepared well and will receive some very pleasing grades.
Staff are also busy writing full reports for seniors. This feedback and feedforward will be formalised and structured into reports at the end of the term. For all other children, the reports will be interim this term, with full academic reports being written in term four.
Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland,
ACG09Sunderland8387070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland 2 Aspire. Succeed. Respect.
The Preschool has grown significantly under Sue’s watch, with over 55 children now in our new centre. We will all miss Sue dearly, however, we cannot hold her back from her retirement and all her plans – shifting northward and building a new Gohouse.well Sue. I also wish to congratulate Khushi Thakar, who's song won a recording contract in the Song Writing Competition ‘Word Up’. A huge congratulations to her.
the next week is:
Pragmatism
An approach that evaluates theories or beliefs in terms of the success of their practical application. I first met Sue when she was the Preschool Manager at our sister school in Strathallan. Sue gave me a great deal of support when I was setting up our small preschool back 10 years ago. I then heard Sue had retired from Strathallan, at the same time our manager had resigned here. Sue agreed to come onboard for six months, so I think it's probably fair that she can retire now, after being a wonderful manager for over six years at Sunderland.
Happy Father’s Day to all those Dad’s on Sunday

The Juniors from Early Learning School were very busy making a special gift for Father’s Day, called a terrarium. Terrariums are made of a glass container and planted to look like a miniature garden. Each child in the Junior room actively participated in this project with tender loving care. Helping our Junior children to make a small terrarium is a fun addition to the gardening theme and it’s a great way for them to learn how to take care of plants and explore nature. The under 2s have had a fabulous week enjoying the (almost) Spring sunshine! Everyone is gaining so much confidence in exploring the outdoors and building their motor skills.

On Thursday we celebrated our love for the fathers! We had some fun games and an in house "chef" for morning tea! Freshly cooked pancake with blueberries & maple syrup! How can it get better than that?
Early Learning
It was such a busy week for our tamariki! We went on a trip to the Kiwi Valley Farm as an extension of our present inquiry about animals! When we asked our tamariki about their favourite part of trip, common answers were riding the horse, riding the bus, riding the tractor and feeding the animals! It was such a wonderful experience for our tamariki! Special thanks to our mums who volunteer to help us and make the trip possible!

Years 7 to 10 students took part in a wellbeing session led by Darren Pereira to teach them about resilience. The session was high energy, fun and even included music from a DJ. Students were motivated and enthusiastic throughout the presentation and were given practical tools to help improve their resilience.
I have been thoroughly enjoy working with our ACG Sunderland School Orchestra. It’s great to get so many young musicians together. It’s a very eclectic grouping of instruments with the traditional violins, cello, flute, clarinet and piano joined with the more exotic guzheng, harp and ukulele. Although early days yet things are looking very promising. I’m hoping we’ll be able to have our first performance before the end of this term.

Khushi’s courageous entry spoke about lockdown stress and contained descriptive and emotive lyrics that many people will resonate with. She won a professional recording session at INDIGO STUDIOS in Grey Lynn this weekend with professional producer, Ed Waaka. Congratulations Khushi for putting yourself out there and taking up the challenge! All the best with the recording of your song in studio this weekend!
Word Up Walks 2022
Khushi Thakar from Year 10 took up the opportunity and over a dedicated weekend at Corbans, worked together with a group of renowned artist mentors to develop her creative practice, creative writing, and performance skills. Learning from these leaders in the industry, Khushi gained tools and inspiration to develop her original song, “Exhausting Reality” with confidence which she refined over the course of a week to present last Friday in a public performance night at Corbans called “Word Up Walks.”
