做为7年级学生如何适应在桑德兰的学校生活 At first it wasn’t easy. Having 11 subjects, and different teachers for each of them. It was definitely exciting but, scary nonetheless.
In other primary schools, you only had one teacher who taught you everything, and that was only Maths, English, P.E., and Inquiry. But now it’s different, and better. You’re learning so many more amazing things in all subjects, and you have homework which wasn’t a thing in primary. Primary – to me – was more for the fun of school; you enjoy life with your friends and learn the basics. Sunderland has prepared me for the future and made me so much more independent and responsible; and I am very happy about getting this wonderful opportunity. However, you still get your free time, which is important. When I first heard about having your own lockers, I was surprised. Having many subjects requires you to store your books and P.E. gear in a locker. Having to get the correct books every day was just one of the ways Sunderland has made me independent. Finally, the most important difference from Primary to Sunderland was what you learn. To be honest what we learned in Primary was a very different perspective than Sunderland, and much less in-depth than what we learn at Sunderland. But, eventually, I started to get the hang of how things were and soon it felt as easy as Primary. 作者： Akarsh Shankar – Year 7

生存之战 – 第二部分 Hours had passed and the storm was still blowing at full force. The boy was shivering, his teeth were chattering, and a numb feeling was spreading across his body like a virus. The winds howled, tearing at his jacket, and threatening to send the poor boy flying. His messy black hair was blowing around his head, temporarily obscuring his vision from time to time. The sun was getting ready to set, indicated by the sky getting darker. His senses were becoming more dull as the storm worsened by the second. The boy’s chances of survival were becoming increasingly slim. Just when he was about to give up hope, he spotted a dim light in the distance. Perhaps there was a chance for him after all. With newfound determination, he powered through the snow until he arrived at a cottage. It was small and appeared cosy as there was a bright glow being emitted from one of its windows. Smoke was billowing out of the chimney, suggesting a warm fire was burning inside. The boy took a glance at the outside world he had been stuck in for years. The snow was pelting him in chunks as forceful as ever and the winds were sostrong they may as well have toppled an elephant. A lake could be spotted nearby, frozen over by ice and no doubt filled with fish. Turning his attention back to the cottage, he attempted to peek through the window. Alas, he had no luck as the glass had been covered by a strong frost. The only thing he knew to be true was that there was someone inside. The boy used almost all his remaining strength to clamber up the stone steps to the cottage where he was met with a sturdy wooden door. Managing a weak knock, he stepped back, unsure whether he should expect the worst. After a few moments, the door swung open and the boy almost cowered in fear of the tall figure standing before him.

在床上做作业影响你的学习动力吗？
During lockdown, the urge to stay in your pyjamas, get comfy and do all your work in your cosy bed is strong. But, in order to stay productive and motivated, you must resist this urge!
So, does doing schoolwork in bed affect your motivation? Yes! Working in bed can be tempting, but it isn’t good for your posture and can distract you.
Additionally, it decreases productivity because there is limited space on your bed. Looking at the spreads of paper and books may exhaust you, on the other hand working at a decent sized desk can allow you to organize your material more efficiently. You can get distracted by the things in your room such as a tv and other electronics which will cause you to procrastinate instead of doing work. So, getting a desk and maybe even a separate office will help you focus more.
If you work in bed your brain will link being in bed to sleep and will make you less energetic and increase tiredness. This will affect your sleep too because your brain will associate your bed to working and your mind will continue to think about work and other things, resulting in less sleep. In conclusion, if you work on a desk, not in bed, you will not only increase your productivity, but also get more sleep! Which is a pretty good outcome. 作者： Maggie Chen - Year 8
