ACG SUNDERLAND
WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 17, Term One, Week Six, 5 March 2021 Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland Firstly, I would like to compliment all our students here at Sunderland for their application and tenacity during what I’m calling Lockdown Four. Yo-yoing from ‘face to face’ to virtual learning cannot be easy and therefore, its important we recognise our young learners’ efforts.
I also wish to take a moment and thank all our staff at Sunderland. It is not just the teaching staff who make these virtual lessons operate, but the administration staff too. They have all stayed on at school to support the teachers and parents as we navigate yet another frustrating lockdown period. I have spoken to the teaching staff on Zoom three times this week, and all seems to be going well with the learning. Please don’t hesitate to feedback to me directly with your observations as parents – I would appreciate your perspective. Obviously, we had to cancel a number of activities over the past week or so. Some of the most significant events were the Whole School Picnic to be held last Friday; the Annual Athletics Day which was planned for Tuesday; and the Open Day to be held this Saturday. I can assure the community that these activities will take place, but new dates are yet to be confirmed.

At this stage, the Government should be making an announcement later this week to give the country some direction on the Alert Levels for next week.
Until then, continue to stay safe, enjoy the time with your families, and I look forward to seeing you all face to face very soon.
Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

Song Lyrics written by Year 9B Students – ‘Teenagers’ Years of Eternity – A youth’s diary entry The beginning of my youth Revealed all but the truth No one knew me And in my heart I cried desperately for a friend My mental wounds never did mend That first day never felt quite right I couldn’t differentiate if rest should be friend or fiend And wouldn’t fall asleep at night These long years of eternity They keep starving me Of faith, of knowledge, of esteem My wheels of life careening on the edge of instability Long years of stability Have lasted me an eternity Should their bridge cables collapse? Should I take a last stand? Next day I felt OK Then my depression started to fade I shook off that sad lonely feeling That left my mind in tears bleeding I realized I could be happy But I’d never tried I realized loyalty wasn’t something old friends could defy And so, we went to the local park on a bike ride and got me giddy These long years of eternity They keep starving me Of faith, of knowledge, of esteem My wheels of life careening on the edge of instability Long years of stability
The teenagers I have never wanted to be a teenager, but I can just never skip these ages. And I don’t want do homework every day. It is a waste of time. And I do not it is needed. I hop that time can go back or faster. then I will do what I like and whatever. and I will escape from the worst part of life. the teenagers 3

It Really Doesn’t Matter All my friends are melodramatic, acting like the queen of everything, but that doesn't mean I hate them, because I’m probably just like them. I don't want to fail, I don’t wanna say goodbye, I like being myself and I wish every workload would fly. I like what I like, and I will not let you change me, and I promised myself not to be crazy but now that doesn’t matter, I won't let it matter, the only thing that matters… Is that I am the best, and that I succeed, I will not be stressed, you will see, I want to make my family so proud of me. so, my personality doesn’t matter, it really doesn’t matter, you’ll see. I love being at home, in my room, I don’t like roaming around, I prefer school on zoom, I try my best to help and do everything I can, but it was really hard when I first began, always room to grow, always room to groan but I can't, I will be happy. I’ll put away all my sorrowful feelings. They can all go fly away, I will be happy no matter what people say. I will succeed so just stay away, I will put all my sorrow feelings away, so you’ll be okay. I promised myself not to change, but now that doesn’t matter, my personality doesn’t matter, the only thing that matters…
Is that I am the best, and that I succeed…
