Questions and Answers
1
Introduction Our priority is always to educate our students while maintaining the safety and well-being of all our students, staff and families. At a time of increased uncertainty around the COVID-19 global pandemic, this Contingency Plan presents guidelines and procedures for school reopening or partial re-opening. Indonesia and Jakarta continue to face significant challenges with the spread and impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Ministries continue to take numerous measures to respond to the pandemic and ACG School Jakarta will continue to follow local regulations and protocols, and follow international best practices regarding health, safety and safeguarding. We have been working closely with the Inspired Education Group, local government authorities and international school organizations to develop this contingency plan. We value real world, face to face teaching and learning and we will do all that we can to give your son/daughter the most authentic learning experience at ACG School Jakarta. However, we also recognize that we must continue to provide a high-quality virtual school experience to students who may not be able to return to face to face learning in Term 4. A safe return to school is our priority.
2
Context We will return to campus with reduced numbers of people visiting our campus. Our campus is designed for a maximum capacity of approximately 600 students and over 100 staff. As we reopen the campus, we estimate that we will be operating at around 30% capacity. The upside of this is that we will have the space to comply with physical distancing measures both inside and outside.
Term 4 Scenario 1 - Hybrid
Scenario 1 is our preferred option where most students from all year levels will be able to return to face to face instruction. Naturally, there will be a number of health, safety and safeguarding protocols and procedures in place (outlined in this document), but it will be great to see our students and teachers back in classrooms teaching and learning. This will also involve a combination of face-to-face learning and online learning. We will have some students at school and some students at home (either in Indonesia or in their home countries). Teachers and Teacher Assistants will work together to provide engaging learning regardless of the mode of delivery.
Scenario 2 - Virtual
This is our least preferred option and will see us continue with virtual schooling.
We are proud to be a diverse international community and we understand that our families may be currently living in Indonesia or may be back in their home country. With this in mind, this contingency plan will endeavor to provide all of our students with access to learning.

We will continue to: • Support and nurture each individual student, taking into account their skills, interests and talents. • We will adapt our environment to ensure health and safety protocols are followed, whilst creating a learning environment that is child-centered, rich in materials, organized and aesthetically pleasing.
We will reconsider our transdisciplinary Units of Inquiry to accommodate the reorganisation of the learning environment, with a particular emphasis on the Approaches to Learning skills such as ‘Self-Management’ (resilience, mindfulness and social skills).
We will give careful thought and consideration to how we deliver our curriculum for a hybrid/blended learning model (see section on virtual school).
35
Pedagogy and Curriculum Delivery (Primary) This will be a hybrid model delivery (This is face-to-face learning for students at school, and virtual learning for students who cannot yet return to school in-person).
For students and/or teachers (class teachers and/or Teaching Assistants) participating in virtual learning, there will be a balance of synchronous (real time) and asynchronous (prerecorded) lessons. Students may have up to 4 periods per day of synchronous virtual learning. However these will not always be continuous. Synchronous learning may include: • Whole group lesson introductions via zoom. • Mini lessons via zoom and/or seesaw. • Individual/small group support on lessons via zoom when necessary. • Teacher available for questions via Seesaw, email, or Zoom. • Lesson reflections. • Music will be delivered asynchronously.
Students will be expected to submit evidence of their work via Seesaw and marking/feedback will be completed digitally through the same platform. 36
Pedagogy and Curriculum Delivery (Secondary)
Teachers will conduct all classes live (synchronously) and record in Microsoft Teams for access by students not in-country. Recordings are to be posted immediately.
Third party adults who are involved in the education of ACG School Jakarta students are required to follow our guidelines on assessment in the digital environment. They are required to communicate observations of concern to the relevant member of staff who in turn will inform the ALT.
37
Learning Materials and Furniture
Students have been given their own set of stationery, tools and equipment to use in class, every day. While explorations may be shared, work samples and other physical products should be completed independently.
In each learning area, we will carefully select equipment, tools and materials that can be washed, sanitised or are only used once.
38
Learning Materials and Furniture In Years 2 -13 the sharing of stationery, learning devices, learning materials and equipment is strictly forbidden. While in Kindergarten and Year 1, any materials or resources that will be use by the students throughout the day, will be washed and sanitised regularly. Students will wash their hands before and after use.
Students will need to maintain their own texts (mostly e-books on their own device) and handouts in a binder.
Specialist class learning materials: Art: Each student will be provided with their own basic art kit. Paper drawers will be open all day in order that students do not need to touch handles.
39
Library
Students will have their own copy of a text that will not be shared.
Students will be given their own set of books to read and these will be changed daily. Hand washing will take place before and after book reading.
The library will be closed for general use, however teacher and teaching assistant will assist students in borrowing and returning books. We still offer our Library Drive-Thru service.
Adults and students will wear disposable gloves when reading any class books.
Students will have access to their own individual class iPad in order to read and enjoy all the digital books and visual stories on offer, via the internet and through the use of high-quality reading apps.
40
English Language Support (ELS)
Kindergarten language learning is personalised, holistic and delivered through a play-based programme, therefore all students will develop their English language skills through daily immersion (there will be no pull-out sessions for Kindergarten students).
Physical distancing will be observed at all times.
Students requiring pull-out or in-class English Language Support (ELS), will be provided with support in the form of small group instruction, with a maximum of five students.
ELS spaces will be sanitised regularly. Students must wash hands before and after ELS and wear face mask.
Students will use their own materials that must not be shared.
Each ELS group will be taught in a designated space, with their own seat. 41

Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) will be provided with small group instruction in the classroom, and individual instruction as described in their EAP.
We will create learning areas where students can receive additional support, observing physical distancing protocols.
42
Assemblies
No in person assemblies. Assemblies will be delivered virtually on the school’s YouTube channel. Please scan QR code to go to our YouTube channel.
43
Assessment: Kindergarten •
Assessment is integral to planning, teaching and learning and in Kindergarten, we will continue to gather information about student development and progress in different ways such as observations, photographs, anecdotal notes, oral and written recordings.
•
We will continue to use Seesaw as the students’ digital platform, in which to share their learning, progress and development over time (this will apply to those children attending school face-to-face and those students attending school ‘virtually).
•
In addition, for those students accessing virtual school, regular Zoom calls with each student/parent will take place to gather more information about how each student is progressing, what their individual needs and goals are, and how they can be best supported in their virtual school environment.
44
Assessment: Primary •
The goal of assessment will be to track student progress, inform teaching and continue to be used as a way to plan effective teaching and learning. We will use this as tool for reflection and forward planning and to provide authentic feedback to students and parents on student progress.
•
In school assessments will follow all health and safety procedures. Group work will be limited and completed digitally whenever possible or with individual supplies. Presentations will be limited to student’s class and shared digitally with the larger school community.
•
Seesaw will still be used in order to document student learning, share student success, and to support reflection and the creation of goals for further learning.
•
Virtual assessments will be designed to be completed as close to in class assessment as possible. Parents of virtual school students will receive feedback on student progress that allows for understanding of the students’ strengths and areas for improvement. Feedback will be provided in a timely and consistent manner.
45
Assessment: Secondary •
As learning at school is reintroduced, formative assessments in core subjects, during the first few months of the term will be used to support each individual student as they re-engage with learning, to encourage progression in learning and to build their confidence in what will continue to be an unfamiliar context.
•
These assessments will contribute to developing a holistic picture of the student in order to identify and support their next steps.
•
Communication between the teacher and the student is key in ensuring well-being. Teachers will provide feedback focusing on supporting the student to move forward by helping to identify specific and achievable learning goals.
•
Ongoing formative assessment with clear and timely feedback provided to students and communicated to parents through Managebac.
•
Summative assessments administered as stipulated in Summative Assessment Schedules.
•
Reasonable adjustments to assessment may be required for some students depending on their learning circumstances eg: learning face-to-face, learning from home or learning in a different time zone. Third party adults who are involved in the education of ACG School Jakarta students are required to follow our guidelines on assessment in the digital environment. They are required to communicate observations of concern to the relevant member of staff who in turn will inform the ALT.
•
46
Science
Practical work will continue under strict Health and Safety protocols. These will mostly take the form of individual experiments and investigations. All Science equipment used by students will be sanitised immediately after use.
In class sizes greater than 12, classes will be rotated with group A doing TA supervised research related activities and group B conducting practicals, experiments, etc. Groups are rotated through activities so that all students receive the same instructional time with the lead teacher.
The lab technician will ensure that all equipment is sanitised after each practical session.
47
Music •
Synchronous (real time/live learning) and asynchronous (lessons/activities uploaded and accessed/completed at any time) learning will continue to be delivered.
48
Hybrid Mode (Kindergarten & Primary) This will be a hybrid model delivery (This is face-to-face learning for students at school, and virtual learning for students who cannot yet return to school in-person).
For those students who will continue virtual schooling, they will use Seesaw and Zoom to learn at home, with a balance of synchronous (real time/live learning) and asynchronous (lessons/activities uploaded to Seesaw and accessed/completed at any time) teaching and learning. Synchronous learning may include: • • • • •
Whole group lesson introductions via Zoom. Mini lessons via Zoom and/or Seesaw. Individual/small group support on lessons via Zoom when necessary. Teacher available for questions via Seesaw, email, or Zoom. Lesson reflections.
49
Hybrid Mode (Kindergarten & Primary)
There will be a balance of asynchronous virtual learning, however this will not always be continuous.
Students will be expected to submit evidence of their work via Seesaw and marking/feedback will be completed digitally through the same platform.
50
Hybrid Mode (Secondary) In the hybrid mode of learning students attend classes synchronously, at the same time. Some students may choose to join face to face classes at school, while other students join virtual school classes from home. The subject teacher uses Teams and other technologies, such as the LCD projector and iPad, to connect the two groups in order to deliver in real time. Students who are working a synchronously are also able to access learning through watching recorded lessons. All students have access to presentations and activities which are uploaded to Teams, and need to upload their work to their personal folders in Teams, or ManageBac as requested.
Inevitably some third-party adults will be involved in the education of our students through platforms such as Pamoja. They are required to abide by our guidelines on assessment and safeguarding in the digital environment. They are required to communicate observations of concern to the relevant member of staff who in turn will inform the ALT.
51
Hybrid Mode (Student Feedback) Kindergarten and Primary • Students will upload all completed work and activities though Seesaw. Personalized, teacher feedback will be given in a timely manner. • Feedback will focus on achievements and next steps in learning. We will encourage a daily, ongoing dialogue between student and teacher via Seesaw, so that we can further build and develop on the skills taught in the lesson. This will give students the opportunities to reflect with teachers and parents in order to identify their strengths and growth, as well as areas for improvement. • Students will upload all completed work and activities though Seesaw. Personalised, teacher feedback will be given on learning activities. Feedback on more in-depth formative and summative assessments may require more time to be marked but should still be provided in a timely manner. Secondary • All students must have regular and /or frequent communication with their subject teacher and Advisor. • Subject feedback must follow the guidelines in the relevant department formative feedback procedures. • Formative feedback is crucial, especially in adverse circumstances where young people need secure and reliable guidance in their educational development.
52
Hybrid Mode (Progress Tracking) •
• • • • • •
In Primary, student work and progress will be tracked carefully using Seesaw. Any work submitted will be assessed for levels of student engagement and knowledge and understanding of set tasks. Seesaw will continue to be used as a highly effective way to not only track student progress, but to ensure that parents and students are a part of this process. Through feedback and dialogue with the student/parents, we will gather a picture about growth and developments in skills, knowledge and understandings in all areas of the curriculum. In addition to regular feedback with parents, formal meetings in the form of Parent Teacher Conferences, will take place virtually. In Primary, student work will be submitted and tracked via Seesaw. Personalised feedback will also support a general understanding of a student’s growth, development of skills and learner profile traits, knowledge and understanding in all areas of the curriculum. In order to have a broader understanding of this progress, staff will develop methods to share student achievement by unit, skills development, or subject area as best decided upon by year level. We will continue to demonstrate transparency in progress tracking and encourage parents and students to be a part of this process. Goals and targets will be clearly set so that all involved can clearly see when progress is being made. Access to Managebac will ensure that teachers, students and parents are able to see formative and summative assessments.

Student council meetings and activities will be run virtually.
Student Leadership is even more important in adverse circumstances. At ACG School Jakarta, we would like to encourage students to step forward and share their strategies for dealing with any and all aspects of student life in order to show inspirational leadership to the rest of the student body. Student Council will have an entirely remote iteration this year. Student Yearbook can work in a semi autonomous way, using Teams as a mechanism for communication. The Cafe Society can exist online with regular concerts. Radio Wolf can exist online with regular interviews and live music programmes. Eco-Warriors can meet online. 58

Field Trips and Camps We value experiences outside of the classroom for all students and will continue to plan for these experiences to take place later in the school year. As usual, the health, safety and wellbeing of all students and staff is paramount and our planning will always involve thorough risk assessments and health and safety protocols. One of the four pillars of our vision for the future is creativity and we will call upon our teachers and teacher assistants to look at creative ways to conduct virtual field trips and experiences. We will also look at ways in which our students can interact virtually with guest speakers and experts in chosen fields. At this time, we also encourage all of our parents to reach out to homeroom teachers, advisors and subject specialists and volunteer to speak ‘virtually’ about their work, career, or industry experiences.
