ACG SUNDERLAND

WINGS NEWSLETTER Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland Our Primary children moved up a year group and met their new classroom teacher, with some new children in the mix too. It was nice also that most of the new students who will attend the College were able to stay until the end of lunch to make the most of their new friendships and environment. The Primary were again visited by Santa, what a joy it was to see the students faces as they lined up to see Santa arrived in his sleigh! I know the students and staff all enjoyed the ice blocks he brought with him.

I am sure many of you have been getting clothing and equipment ready for our upcoming camps, which head out on Monday morning. The camps are a great opportunity to build relationships, students are taken out of their comfort zones of regular school life and are able to experience another form of learning. I personally wish the children all the very best with this experience. I will be visiting most of the camps on Monday. The information below is a reminder of where the camps are off to for 2019 and their departure times. Outdoor Education is pivotal to ACG Sunderland, experiences outside of the classroom are a very important extension to learning. Over the last two weeks, our Year Nine cohort have been out to Goat Island, the Marine Reserve at Leigh. As part of their Science course, they got to snorkel with marine life and observe the ecosystem below the waves.

We are very fortunate to have three new benches placed in the Primary playground and asphalt. A huge thank you to Mr Baker for organising the design, wood type, delivery and instalment. The children are loving the new seating and we really appreciate it!

Traffic flow for ACG Sunderland before and after school is going well with the new changes. However, we do need to respect our business community around our school. We do realise that we cannot control this but blocking driveways, dropping your child in other car parking premises and having your child running across a carpark is not safe for anyone. For your information this year the College and Primary prizegiving's will be in our Gymnasium. College commencing at 9.00am and Primary 11.00am. All parents, caregivers and families are welcome to attend this fantastic celebration. Please be aware that there is limited parking at the school. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Aspire. Succeed. Respect.

Apple Teacher

ACG Sunderland 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland

Apple Teacher is a professional learning program designed to support and celebrate educators using Apple products for teaching and learning. The Primary staff at ACG Sunderland have all achieved their certificates in Apple Teacher Certification this year. The Primary staff have a strong foundation for using iPad, Mac, and Apple apps like Pages, Keynote, Numbers, GarageBand, and iMovie in the classroom. This is an inspiration on now going further with each new skill. This certification now allows the staff to be part of a community of teachers from around the world using Apple technology for fun and creative ways. Primary staff are integrating their new skills into their everyday practice, and focusing on innovating in the classroom. This will build deeper student learning experiences for each learner at ACG Sunderland.

Leigh Science Trip

ACG Sunderland 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland

In Science the Year Nines are studying Humans in the environment so we went snorkelling at Matheson’s Bay with 9B on Monday and Goat Island on Wednesday with 9A. Very few students had been snorkelling before and they were amazed at what they saw underwater and were excited when they saw fish. It gave them a different view of the planet and hopefully gives them more incentive to look after the only planet that we have.
