ACG SUNDERLAND

WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 14, Term Four, Week Seven, 29 November 2019 Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland On Monday morning, I had the opportunity to visit some of our camps. The Year Seven camp at Kokako, the Year Eight camp at Long Bay and the Year Nine at Camp Adair and the Year Ten at Hunua. They were all having a wonderful experience in the outdoors of New Zealand. At the same time, we had our Year Six class in Northland and our Year Eleven students at Waipu. Unfortunately, I did not have time to visit these camps but from the feedback received, they also had fantastic experiences.

All the children arrived back on Wednesday afternoon very tired, probably a little hungry and perhaps needing a shower too! However, I am sure they will reflect on the experience fondly, having strengthened their friendships, tackled tasks they ordinarily would not have attempted and enjoyed the overall experience. . I would like to thank all the staff involved with the experience and in particular Mr Philip Keen, for his energy towards the Outdoor education experience here at ACG Sunderland.

On Friday our senior students came in to run our annual Legacy Day, an initiative for the seniors to give back to the school and run a whole lot of fun activities for the Year Seven to Year Ten students. It has been a very successful event. Thank you to all the staff involved. Some of the activities: • • Castles • • Rob the nest • • Ultimate Frisbee • • Multisport • • Engineering challenge • • Drawing • • Board games The students finished off with House Karaoke. On Monday next week, we will hold our whole school picnic at Long Bay. This involves the entire school, including the Preschool. Again, I know everyone is very much looking forward to a day at the beach. Fingers crossed for good weather. Primary: Sport Uniform, sandshoes. College: Mufti

Be sun smart. Slip on a hat, slap on the sunblock and Sip lots of water.

I wish to personally pass on my sincere condolences on behalf of the ACG Sunderland Community to the family ‘Tangi’ [Matangi Mulitalo] a long serving bus driver of our Titirangi run who passed away on Friday last week. Tangi will be missed..

KEY:

Last night, I along with Mr Stephen’s, Mr Keen, Ms Ngoh and Mr Dawson, celebrated with the Year Thirteen students and their families, the graduation from College. We had our foundation student and Head Boy Chase Leathard there with Ricky Yong speaking on behalf of the cohort. It certainly was a night of celebration.

Prizegiving for the College and Primary is on Tuesday 3rd December. The College Prizegiving starts at 9.00am, and the Primary Prizegiving will take place at 11.00am. This year we will be located in the Gymnasium, so that there is more seating and space for everyone. School closes at 12.30pm, with buses leaving at this time. Primary students have after school care with Nanette Carillo, however, the rest of the school will be locked. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Aspire. Succeed. Respect.
