ACG SUNDERLAND

WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 14, Term Three, Week Five, 23 August 2019

Dear ACG Sunderland Community

What’s in this issue:

Wet, wet, wet – not the band, but this very frustrating period of weather we are currently having. Certainly no water shortages presently! In saying that, the Primary and College have managed this difficult period very well. I must congratulate the Primary leaders particularly, for taking responsibility for the younger children in their classrooms during lunchtime. Congratulations to the Year Four to Year Six who all completed their speeches this week. I understand everyone did a wonderful job with this demanding experience. The finalists will be judged by Toastmasters next week. Well done again. On Wednesday night our Year Nine and Ten top Mathematicians took part in arithmetic battles in the annual Mathex competition. An impressive record was set with our Year Ten Team A, completing ALL the questions at the Mathex competition. Despite some hiccups the team was still able to score a perfect 100 points in 23 minutes, making them one of the top teams in Auckland. Our Year Nine and Ten teams were carefully selected based on their Mathematics test/examination results as well as their problem-solving skills. These students have trained diligently with Ms Shao and have also been extending their mathematical skills both in and outside of class.

ACG Sunderland 0800 222 199 | 09 838 7070 6 Waipareira Ave, Henderson, Auckland

A huge thank you to the entire Mathematics department for organising the training sessions and then assisting with competition on the night. I would also like to thank all the parents who came to support our school teams on Wednesday night. The scores for all teams were as follows: 10A: 100 points (23 mins) 9A: 90 points

10B: 85 points 9B: 80 point

After our successful Option Evening on Thursday, all our Year Ten to Year Twelve students were handed their option forms for them to make decisions about subjects for 2020 last Friday. Special thanks to Mr Stephens for organising this. Remember there are Staff and a Careers Advisor to assist students with their decisions. The Option forms are due back at the end of this month. I would like to congratulate our Year Three and Four netball team (Sunderland Spitfires) who have completed their season at the top of their grade. For many of the players this is their first time ever playing netball. Congratulations to Tori Patterson, Madeline Yeoman, Shriya Ramachandran, Hazel Barron, Annabelle Tyler, Seren Westcott Jones, Aikya Jeevithesh, MiuMiu Jin, Melissa Zhang and Sophia Feng. The team was coached by two Year Eleven students, Nikita Gill and Isha Takyar. Many thanks to these girls who did a wonderful job. Also, thank you to the Manager, Ankeli Van Rooyen.

Aspire. Succeed. Respect.
