Creating the Yearbook this year was no easy feat, but we are immensely proud of the teachers, faculty, students, families, and especially our Yearbook Team for celebrating all the highlights of this incredibly challenging year in our Yearbook. Though virtually, we have accomplished far greater things than anyone could have imagined this year as a community from holding school and social events online, learning and growing independently, to appreciating our family and wonderful community despite our circumstances, it is our pleasure to present to you the accomplishments of the ACG School Jakarta community. With this Yearbook, we hope we can show you how relentlessly our teachers, staff, and students have been working to make this year the best one they could. Our Yearbook is meant to celebrate their achievements and end the 2020-2021 Academic Year on a positive and joyful note! We hope you have as much fun reading this Yearbook as we had making it and that you will have an enjoyable, safe summer break. See you next year! Sincerely, The Yearbook Team Najma Marwan, Rumaisha Ghina, Isabel ten Have, Sabrina McPhail, Irah Wahab, Anya Simanjuntak, Devina Darmawan, Ellena Cumberbirch, Yasmina Adimasadi, Samy Shebubakar, Woo Sang Kim 3

Dear All, We have faced significant challenges this year and should feel proud of the way our community has remained connected, supportive and compassionate. We did not imagine that we would spend three terms online and the recent hybrid approach has certainly demonstrated the value of face-to-face teaching and learning, social skills development and community activities that we perhaps took for granted prior to the global pandemic. Through these uncertain times, we have continued to move forward as a school community to strengthen the foundations in important areas that will see ACG School Jakarta become a more sustainable and progressive institution. The pandemic has pushed us to be creative and implement virtual monthly assemblies, parent student teacher conferences and virtual reality exhibitions for the PYP, Arts and Design Technology. We have seen how our student leaders can thrive in the digital landscape and host online events such as Mental Health Awareness Week and publishing a digital magazine – SCREAM zine. The numerous Parents as Learners Workshops, Parent Information Sessions and Year Level Webinars have helped to keep us all connected. Our steps towards international school accreditation gave us the opportunity to evaluate our own practices, raise awareness of our guiding statements and remind ourselves of our aspirational vision. In order to become a school of creative, innovative problems solvers, we must strive to provide learning experiences where students, faculty and parents have the opportunity to take responsibility, demonstrate leadership, and affect change locally. Our current batch of graduates are a wonderful example of realizing elements of our vision and it is their achievements, success and actions that will inspire others and help future students reach greater heights. All over the world, people like me will be wondering what on earth they can write in their school yearbook that meaningfully adds to what has already been learned this year. Our lovely school, like so many spread across the different continents of the world, is most likely in a strange, creeping kind of shock since Spring of 2020. In my mind, accepting what has happened is very much part of the process of dealing with it, in my view, we have suffered a world-size trauma. I am not a fan of denial, it serves no real positive purpose, so, as unpleasant as life’s truths can be, it is better to stare them in the face, get to know what they are, and then take them apart, one by one. I have accepted that so much about this virus is unknown, so much that we cannot predict anything with any amount of certainty. So that is what we have to deal with as a school. One of my favourite moments this year was actually in the Cafeteria one morning in May, around 07:40 when most of the students who were coming to school had already arrived. Something occurred to me, and that ‘something’ was the level of noise in the Cafeteria. It wasn’t a bad noise, it was the hum of excited chatter, about school, about not-school, between children of all ages and adults. I realised that this was the first time since March 2020 I had heard noise like this. The joyful cacophony of young people enjoying talking with each other made me smile a very genuine smile. I mentioned this observation to Ms Ellison who was supervising with me and we were both taken aback by the power of the realisation. What we had been missing, what the students had been missing, the sound of people of all ages enjoying the act of communication. I suppose the larger realisation behind this simple one is that this horrible virus has helped me understand something I knew already, but in a much more significant way. When we lose the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas with others, to say silly things with each other, to learn from one another, agree and disagree with each other, we lose one of our defining characteristics. This nasty virus that has done so much to hurt all of our communities, but also has inadvertently done us a favour. Speaking purely for myself I want to always keep this lesson alive in my mind and commit to creating even more chances for our school community to communicate in many different ways. Of all the members of the community, I think it is the students who have defined how we need to react to this global event. They have persevered, shouldered burdens, helped each other, shown patience and tolerance in huge amounts. They have run assemblies, radio stations, exhibitions, tutor groups, fundraising events. They have learned new routines, cheerfully worn masks and visors in 34 degree heat, they have walked in lines and followed tracks on the ground as if they always did it like that. They have submitted portfolios, sat large numbers of tests and exams, waited patiently above and beyond expectations. They have run graduations, made yearbooks and applied to universities. All in a global pandemic. Frankly, I am in awe. As teachers we need to be exceptionally proud of our students right now, and always. Students of ACG, you set the bar very high for us adults, so I salute you and hope we can continue to deliver to you a school you deserve and then go on to make it even better. Have a fantastic summer. Richard Todd

MESSAGE FROM THE
PRIMARY TEAM As we start the time to close the school for summer holidays, this is the time to reflect on the year. While this year has provided a wealth of challenges for teachers, students, staff, and families, we are amazed at how we have come together as a community to face them. Teachers continued to be innovative in the ways they presented concepts, went above and beyond to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. Students have worked diligently to inquire, be creative in how they demonstrate their knowledge with materials they have at home and reach out to their friends in new and unique ways in order to establish and maintain connections with their friends. Our parents have taken on additional duties to support their student’s learning and help maintain their emotional and mental well-being. While it has always been clear that we have a strong community at ACG School Jakarta, this year has made us even stronger. It was such a joy to have our students on campus for face-to-face learning, despite how short this time was, so we could connect with them more and have an opportunity to learn together in person. Our students have reached outstanding achievements this year from developing excellent Communication Skills through regularly writing in their class blogs, all the way to our first ever Virtual Reality PYP Exhibition in Year 6. During this time, their passion for learning hasn’t wavered. We have made many memories this year, established new friendships and reflected on where we want to be next year. It’s been an absolute pleasure to help guide teachers and students during the 2020-2021 school year and we look forward to welcoming students next year. However, for now it is a time for rest; we wish you an amazing summer holiday filled with health and happiness. We will be working to open our 2021-2022 school year positively and a plan to make it even better than this year! Congratulations on all of your success this year, you’ve earned it. All the best, Vanessa Ellison Wendi Hunter 7
The end of the 2020-2021 Academic Year was an extremely challenging yet incredibly successful year for ACG School Jakarta. Despite these unpredictable circumstances, the school has persevered to triumph over these obstacles as we have made the best of the situation and even transitioned to physical school for a period of time. The stressful times of the pandemic have not wavered the strong sense of community in ACG, which is the very reason we have signed up for our roles as Head Students This year’s rendition of the Student Council, both Primary and Secondary, proved to be some of the most innovative individuals to date. To provide the students with unforgettable experiences, ACG Jakarta's Student Council created virtual social events aided by power of technology. The Spirit Week to motivate our students, Mental Health Awareness Week to care for them, the Game Night & E-Sports Competition to give them a chance to get together outside of class like they normally would and Holiday Poster Competition for students to shine in a non-academic light... We are beyond proud of what our amazing students have pulled off in a far from perfect situation, and we are excited to see what they will achieve in years ahead. Moving forward, some exciting new developments have been started to improve the school life: an indoor cafeteria and interactive garden for learning. We hoped we have achieved our primary goal coming into this Academic Year: to instil and encourage an attitude of proactivity and excitement facing new opportunities and challenges Thank you all for trusting us as the Head Boy and Head Girl for this academic year. We’re proud to have been given the opportunity to contribute back to our community. For the next Head Students, Raahim, Anh, Rebecca, congratulations on getting the role and good luck next year! Enjoy your summer break and we hope to stay in touch! Sincerely, Isabel ten Have and Danujati Yulianto 8

We have just completed an enjoyable and successful THIMUN conference. Our delegates quickly got into the procedures of the lobbying and debating sessions and were very proactive in delivering not just policy statement speeches but also in putting themselves forward for points of information and improvised amendment speeches.
Our delegate, Anh Vu, is seeking a point of information from the delegate of Mauritania on a draft resolution relating to overexploitation of the oceans as part of the Sustainable Development Committee debates. Anh had already delivered a speech in Favour of this merged resolution and later in the week, was practiced enough to propose an amendment to another merged resolution before the committee. Our team of hard-working delegates worked hard in the mornings to get all speeches ready and to practice debating across three committees: Environment Committee, Political Committee, and the Sustainable Development Committee, and this paid off in the afternoon debating sessions. 237
