Latest Research Anti-inflammatory: This 2009 study showed 1 gm of mastic gum daily reduced the protein that stimulates neutrophils to release cytokines. Cytokines increase inflammation specifically in relation to gastric ulcers in the presence of Heliobacter pylori. Kottakis F, Kouzi-Koliakou K, Pendas S, Kountouras J, Choli-Papadopoulou T. Effects of mastic gum Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia on innate cellular immune effectors. Eur J Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2009 Feb;21(2):143-9

Latest Research Anti-cancer: This 2006 study showed mastic oil inhibited vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) which stimulates formation of new blood vessels. This is how tumors grow. It also reduces protein kinases which stimulates inflammation. Loutrari H, Magkouta S, Pyriochou A, Koika V, Kolisis FN, Papapetropoulos A, Roussos C. Mastic oil from Pistacia lentiscus var. chia inhibits growth and survival of human K562 leukemia cells and attenuates angiogenesis. Nutr Cancer. 2006;55(1):86-93.
