THE SPARK
Instructor Prescott Reavis and Fernando Marti | 4th Yr
Based on your discussions with the Black Cultural Zone, design an affordable housing unit that addresses the needs of the East Oakland community. The massings combined respect the single-family residential dwellings around the site and provides angled perspectives for indirect views opening up to the community. Contributions Angela C

ACOUSTITCH
Instructor Lingxiu Chong | 3rd Yr
Urban Institute: Construct a building which considers functions of space, operability, structure, and performance in an in-fill site in San Francisco which will house assembly, research, and exhibition spaces.
This project reacts to the bustling soundscapes of the city by organizing the interior program from public to private.
10 ARCHITECTURE
The building creates two shells offering light and mediation between spaces.

CHANNEL
Instructor David Orkand | 2nd Yr
SPATIAL CONSTRUCT: Construct a folly by choosing interesting forms and walls to invert as voids or solids. extrapolated from eight smaller cubes constructed through cuts and color projection. Add a plinth and circulation path in the structure.
Digital models of the final iteration were created in Rhino and drawings were created in Illustrator. This folly follows the theme of a channel, as the stairs and spiraling projection of color hint at a flow through the space.

ALBERS DUPLEX
Instructor Rudabeh Pakravan | 2nd Yr
DU*PLEX: Extracting figure-ground and sectional spatial relationships from a chosen painting, develop your project into a duplex housed by two businesses: Funky Door Yoga and the Artist and Craftsman.
My circulation converges to a central trapezoid shaped gathering space inspired by the central parallelogram of the original painting. The trapezoid introduces orientation and plays with diverging and converging circulation. Program shifts from public to private by spatial expansion upon passing through an aperture in the primary wall, emphasized through hatch. Hatch indicates public space and highlights the central gathering area.

Urban Confluence Design Competition
Brief: Create an iconic landmark for the City of San Jose which embodies symbols of hope, healing, and human connection. It should be a compelling and world-class experience for tourists and the local community.
re [LINK] expresses the push and pull of social connection and disconnection created by technology within our urban society. The landmark is intended to promote social interaction through a reading and conversational space while critiquing our relationship with technology.
The tall concrete tree with the open library serves as a central hub. The vined passages and pavilions, setback from the base of the tree, serve as interactive spaces.
DISC* EL CERRITO Design+Innovation for Sustainable Cities
Instructor Gabriel Kaprielian
Brief: Create a simulation board with movable pieces, allowing the assembled pieces to represent your transitoriented development project at El Cerrito del Norte BART Station.
This project aimed towards creating a more unified and opportunistic community through transitoriented development. Fieldwork and site analysis revealed weaknesses to be urban sprawl and disconnect amongst the community.
The proposed design would add in bike lanes to promote more sustainable transport, and improved services would encourage economic growth and prosperity in the vicinity. Contributions Angela C
