Message from the President

Amy Lee

Welcome to the 27th annual Boston Pops on Nantucket! It is my great pleasure to greet you on behalf of Nantucket Cottage Hospital. This cherished event is the highlight of our summer season, and we are thrilled to have you join us for an evening of spectacular music and community spirit.

We are honored to have Conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops on Tour with us once again, bringing their extraordinary talent to Jetties Beach. This year, we are especially excited to welcome Super Diamond, the Neil Diamond Tribute, as our special musical guest. Their performance promises to be unforgettable.

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our host, best-selling author and island resident Elin Hilderbrand, whose enthusiasm and support have been invaluable. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our dedicated co-chairs, Erin and Jamie Siminoff, for their tireless efforts in making this event a success.

This evening would not be possible without the generous contributions of Jill and Steve Karp, White Elephant Resorts, and Fidelity Investments. Your unwavering support is deeply appreciated and vital to the success of this event.

As Nantucket's largest fundraiser of the year, the Boston Pops on Nantucket plays a crucial role in supporting our mission. The funds raised tonight will directly impact our ability to provide exceptional healthcare to our island community. From advanced medical technology to essential patient services, your generosity ensures that we can continue to meet the needs of our patients with the highest standard of care.

Thank you for being here and for your continued support. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of so many. Enjoy the music, the company, and this beautiful Nantucket evening.

Warm regards,

Message from the Chairs

We are humbled and thrilled to serve as your chairs of the 2024 Boston Pops on Nantucket. Tonight, we gather in support of a cause that holds deep meaning for us.

Our connection with Nantucket Cottage Hospital has been profound, especially following a personal medical emergency in 2020 when Jamie was severely injured in a gas grill explosion. The swift and exceptional care from the hospital left an indelible mark on us. We are forever grateful for the kindness and medical expertise that we experienced from the doctors, nurses and hospital staff. It’s our heartfelt commitment to continue supporting the hospital in gratitude for the care that we received.

Tonight promises to be a celebration filled with singing, dancing, and joy featuring the Boston Pops and Super Diamond. We are so grateful to be part of this remarkable community and invite all of you to join us in celebrating and contributing to this worthy cause.

Let’s dance, give generously, and enjoy each other’s company!

With Gratitude,

Erin and Jamie Siminoff Chairs, 27th Annual Boston Pops on Nantucket

Elin Hilderbrand

HOST

Elin Hilderbrand is the author of thirty novels including SWAN SONG. Her novel THE PERFECT COUPLE has been adapted into a six-episode limited series with Netflix, starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber.

She is a proud 1991 graduate of Johns Hopkins University where she majored in Writing Seminars. In her senior year at Hopkins, Elin had her first short story, “Misdirection,” accepted for publication in Seventeen Magazine.

After a short stint working in publishing and teaching in New York City, she moved to Nantucket permanently in 1994. She attended the University of Iowa writers workshop and earned her MFA in 1998, and published her first novel, THE BEACH CLUB, in the summer of 2000. Her 2019 novel, SUMMER OF ’69 was her first novel to debut at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list.

Hilderbrand lives year-round on Nantucket with her young adult children, three of whom were born at Nantucket Cottage Hospital. She’s a ten-year breast cancer survivor.

Amanda Mena

NATIONAL ANTHEM SINGER

Amanda Mena has demonstrated exceptional success as a talented singer, recently seen on American Idol Season 2021. She wowed the judges and left them speechless with her first performance – the judges “immediately” giving her the Golden Pass to Hollywood Week, never done before without debate! “You’re one of a kind,” judge Katy Perry told her.

Amanda is that rare performer who now has performed on all three major National TV Shows: (1) American Idol, (2) America’s Got Talent, and (3) The Voice (La Voz Kids).

On Season 13 of America's Got Talent, Mena was able to capture judge Mel B's heart and earned the Golden Buzzer with her rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Natural Woman" with what Howie Mandel referred to as a "supernatural talent” and Simon Cowell praised as a voice with “genuine natural soul." America’s Got Talent recently rated Amanda’s performance as one of the 10 best vocal performances in its’ TV history!

Amanda will be a Senior at The Berklee College of Music in Boston.

She graduated with honors from St. Mary’s High School in Lynn, Massachusetts in 2021.

Keith Lockhart CONDUCTOR

Keith Lockhart is the second longest-tenured conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra since its founding in 1885. He took over as conductor in 1995, following John Williams’ 13-year tenure from 1980 to 1993; Mr. Williams succeeded the legendary Arthur Fiedler, who was at the helm of the orchestra for nearly 50 years.

Keith Lockhart, who occupies the Julian and Eunice Cohen Boston Pops Conductor chair, has conducted more than 2,000 Boston Pops concerts and annual Boston Pops appearances at Tanglewood, as well as 45 national tours and 4 international tours to Japan and Korea. The annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular conducted by Mr. Lockhart draws a live audience of over half a million to the Charles River Esplanade and millions more who view it on television or live webcast. He has led eight albums on RCA Victor/BMG Classics; recent releases on Boston Pops Recordings include A Boston Pops Christmas–Live from Symphony Hall, The Dream Lives On: A Portrait of the Kennedy Brothers, and Lights, Camera…Music! Six Decades of John Williams.

The list of nearly 300 guest artists with whom Keith Lockhart has collaborated represents performers from virtually every corner of the entertainment world. Having recently completed an eight year tenure as principal conductor, he is now chief guest conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra in London; he is also artistic director of the Brevard Music Center summer institute and festival in North Carolina. Prior to his BBC appointment, he spent 11 years as music director of the Utah Symphony.

He has appeared as a guest conductor with virtually every major symphonic ensemble in North America and many in Asia and Europe. Before coming to Boston, he was the associate conductor of both the Cincinnati Symphony and Cincinnati Pops orchestras, as well as music director of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.

Super Diamond

MUSICAL GUEST

Super Diamond is an uncanny tribute to beloved master singer/songwriter/ performer, American pop icon Neil Diamond and has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, CNN, VH1, Comedy Central and has been featured in publications like Rolling Stone Magazine, Spin and The New York Times.

San Francisco’s Super Diamond has become one of the most popular live shows at major nightclubs, theaters, ballrooms, and public events throughout the United States. For three decades, the band has performed sell-out shows at venues such as Irving Plaza in New York, 930 Club in Washington D.C., Bimbo’s in San Francisco, and House of Blues venues in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Cleveland, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Dallas, the Showbox in Seattle, the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, The Oden Theatre in Denver, The Belly Up in San Diego, and many other venues and concerts.

Super Diamond delivers a glittering, smoke-filled show performing Neil Diamond’s hits with a rock edge and unrestrained enthusiasm. Pure entertainment – classic music combined with fun, energy, and passion! Neil Diamond – the man himself – has sung his songs on stage with Super Diamond

Don’t let anyone tell you Neil Diamond doesn’t “ROCK!”

About The Boston Pops

For more than 135 years, the Boston Pops has entertained audiences in Boston and beyond, with Boston Pops Conductor Keith Lockhart leading the orchestra since 1995. It all began in 1885, thanks to the vision of Civil War veteran Henry Lee Higginson. Four years earlier, in 1881, he founded the Boston Symphony Orchestra, calling its establishment “the dream of my life.” From the start he intended to present, in the warmer months, concerts of light classics and the popular music of the day. From a practical perspective, Higginson realized that these “lighter” performances would provide yearround employment for his musicians. The “Promenade Concerts,” as they were originally called, were soon informally known as “Popular Concerts,” which eventually became shortened to “Pops,” the name officially adopted in 1900. The following year the orchestra performed for the first time in its new home, Symphony Hall. Not only is this performance space acoustically outstanding, it was also designed, at Higginson’s insistence, so that the rows of seats for Boston Symphony concerts could be replaced by tables and chairs for Pops concerts. To this day, patrons sitting at the cabaret-style tables can enjoy food and drink along with the kind of musical entertainment only the Boston Pops can provide.

We apologize for omitting anyone from the Program Book after the press deadline of July 1, 2024.

"So long, farewell, I only came to say I must be going..."

After 52 years in the concert production business, including the past 28 years as the Producer of the Pops on Nantucket, the time has come for me to say good bye. When I was asked in the fall of 1996 to produce an event on Nantucket to benefit the struggling Cottage Hospital, we came up with the notion of having the Boston Pops Orchestra, a beloved New England institution, perform at a fund raising concert. Twenty eight years later, this event has become a much anticipated summer tradition on the island.

As I pass the reins over to your new Producer, Brett Vollmuth, who has worked on this event since its inception, I feel confident that this annual concert will remain one of the high points of summers on Nantucket.

It has been with the continued support and cooperation of hundreds of individuals, organizations, volunteers, local entities and the Steamship Authority that we have been able to make this a successful and enjoyable event. You have my heartfelt thanks!

I would especially like to thank the Nantucket Hospital Board of Trustees and the Development Office for trusting in my vision and giving me unlimited support. It has been a truly rewarding relationship.

With best wishes for all the summers to come,
