WOW! How fashion has changed in the past decade. In the early sixties, fashion was more reminiscent of the 1950s, conservative and restrained. Education Education School
Oh no! Our education really hasn’t been one of the best. In 1960, well over half of students, didn’t finish school! Only 8.5% of metro students and 5.1 percent of nonmetro students received college degrees. In the 60s, rural schools came under pressure. Some of the pressures were the same as those felt by urban schools – but had unique forms in rural areas – and some of the pressures were imposed by the continuing exodus of people from rural areas to urban America.. In the 1960s, there were still close to 1,000 school districts in a state with only around 1.5 million people.

Civil Civil Rights Rights Movment Movment Desegregation
Nearly 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans in Southern states still had unfair segregation and various forms of oppression, including race-inspired violence. “Jim Crow” laws at the local and state levels barred them from classrooms and bathrooms, from theaters and train cars, from juries and legislatures. In 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the “separate but equal” doctrine that formed the basis for state-sanctioned discrimination, drawing national and international attention to African Americans’ plight.
Civil Civil Rights Rights Movment Movment Desegregation
In the turbulent decade and a half that followed, civil rights activists used nonviolent protest and civil disobedience to bring about change, and the federal government made legislative headway with initiatives such as the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1968. Many leaders from within the African American community and beyond rose to prominence during the Civil Rights era, including Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Andrew Goodman and others. They risked—and sometimes lost—their lives in the name of freedom and equality.
