Find the perfect wedding site in the Swannanoa Valley By Gretchen Howard SPECIAL TO THE BLACK MOUNTAIN NEWS
wedding in the Swannanoa Valley offers couples and their guests a change of pace - fresh air and Southern charm. From small country inns to spacious mountain settings, there are plenty of stunning locations to choose from in this area. Sleepy Hollow Inn and Event Center is a “one-stopshop” when it comes to a wedding. The inn offers allinclusive packages with the cake, photographer, caterer, DJ, flowers, officiant, and videographer. Most ceremonies take place outside in front of the gazebo and pond with a backup inside space in case of inclement weather. The inn sleeps up to 24 guests, and there is also a separate carriage house for the bride and groom. The staff includes a wedding coordinator and director to assist couples with all of the wedding day planning. 132 Old Jims Branch Road, Swannanoa, (828) 298-1115, www.ashevillebbinn.com. In the three years they’ve been in business, Hidden River Events has hosted over 130 weddings. The 17+ acre outdoor event site is located in Swannanoa in the scenic farm area of Warren Wilson College by the Swannanoa River. Hidden River offers a choice of several mountain wedding sites, including locations right next to the river,

on an island in a pond, in the perennial garden, or in the main farm filled with the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop. Their services “match in kindness and efficiency the grandeur of the mountains that surround the farm,” says owner and director Jeanne Sommer, who is also the wedding officiant for the site. There are four vacation guest houses on site for overnight accommodations. Services include all the infrastructure, labor and vendors needed for a wedding, full-service planning and the option to use your own vendors if desired. Hidden River’s goals are to keep costs reasonable for the couple, preserve the historic Swannanoa Valley farm land, and give a percentage of the cost of each event to local charities. (828) 3333401, www.hiddenriverevents. com. At the foot of Mt. Mitchell, Lake Eden is best known for its seasonal art and music festival, Lake Eden Arts Festival. However, the vast land surrounded by woods and mountains is also a magical setting for a wedding ceremony and reception, accommodating groups ranging from small and intimate up to as large as 800 people. Lake Eden provides custom wedding tents with all the trimmings at a beautiful lakeside location. The “Overlook” is a favorite spot with views of Lake Eden and Mt. Mitchell and an arched

This indoor location offers a rustic alternative to the tented reception but still has restrooms, a catering area, tables and chairs, heaters, fans, and a stage. There is even a foosball table and a large movie screen available for sharing your special moments. 377 Lake Eden Road, Black Mountain, (828) 686-8742, www.lakeedenevents.com. Black Mountain Center for the Arts, located in the heart of downtown Black Mountain’s historic district, offers a unique and beautiful wedding reception setting. The gallery is located in the restored old city hall, and the warmth of the building combined with the fine arts environment makes for a colorful, visual space. A Cape Cod arts and crafts-style home, the Bella Luna Inn’s lush gardens make a scenic setting for intimate ceremonies and small receptions. The inn provides wedding arrangements such as special decorations, flowers, and wedding coordination. Treat your guests to Bella Luna’s in-house gourmet catering, Black-Eyed Susan Catering. After a joyous day with family and friends, retire to a large room with a Jacuzzi tub and a luxurious king-size bed. 99 Terry Estate Drive, Black Mountain, (828) 249-6979, www.bellalunainn.com and www.blackeyedsusancate ring.com.
