Our Name WHAT DOES THE WORD
ACUMEN
ACUMEN - Business Pages with adverts and information about upcoming Christian and church events and business services to keep Christians in business and ministry well informed about the latest happenings in their chosen calling or line of business or trade.
MEAN? ACUMEN ; (ˈækjʊˌmɛn, əˈkjuːmən) The word is a Latin word from the 1530s which means "a point, sting," hence "sharpness, shrewdness," from acuere "to sharpen" .
Salvation If you would like to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life or you want to recommit your life to him because you have fallen back into sin, just follow these simple steps; 1.
Recognize and admit you are a sinner (Psalm 51;5)
ACUMEN is the ability to judge well; keen discernment; insight
2.
Repent of your sins (1John 1;9)
3.
Confess Jesus as Lord and savior ( Rom 10: 9-10)
ACUMEN means quickness, accuracy, and keenness of judgment or insight.
4.
Pray this prayer aloud: Lord. I recognize that I am a sinner, I turn away from my sins and confess you with my mouth and believe in my heart that Jesus is Lord. Thank you for saving me. Amen
BUSINESS ACUMEN is keenness and quickness in understanding and dealing with a business situation in a manner that is likely to lead to a good outcome. [1] The term "business acumen" can be broken down literally as a composite of its two component words: Business literacy is defined in SHRM's Business Literacy Glossary as "the knowledge and understanding of the financial, accounting, marketing and operational functions of an organization” [2] The Oxford English Dictionary defines acumen as "the ability to make good judgments and quick decisions". [3] Given these textbook definitions, a strictly literal definition would be "keenness and quickness in understanding and dealing with a business situation”

Edwin Othello Excell – Composer
1851—1921
Count your blessings When upon life‟s billows you are tempest tossed, When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost, Count your many blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done. Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God hath done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
Born: December 13, 1851, Stark County, Ohio. Died: June 10, 1921, Chicago, Illinois. Buried: Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.
Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly, And you will keep singing as the days go by.
HYMN HISTORY: This hymn certainly ranks as one of the most familiar numbers in our hymnals. It is one of the songs that many of us first sang with gusto during our early Sunday School days, yet one that we still enjoy singing in our gospel type of services.
Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God hath done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
Rev. Johnson Oatman, Jr., was one of the important and prolific gospel song writers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He was born near Medford, New Jersey, on April 21, 1856. As a child he became acquainted with the hymns of the church through the singing talents of his father.
When you look at others with their lands and gold, Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold; Count your many blessings money cannot buy Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high. Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God hath done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
At the age of nineteen Oatman joined the Methodist Church and several years later was granted a license to preach in local Methodist congregations. Though he wrote over 5,000 hymn texts, Oatman was busily engaged throughout his life in a mercantile business and later as an administrator for a large insurance company in New Jersey. Other gospel favorites by Johnson Oatman include “Higher Ground, and “No, Not One!”
So, amid the conflict whether great or small, Do not be discouraged, God is over all; Count your many blessings, angels will attend, Help and comfort give you to your journey‟s end.
“Count Your Blessings” is generally considered to be Oatman‟s finest hymn. It first appeared in Songs for Young People, compiled and published by Edwin O. Excell in 1897. It has been sung all over the world. One writer has stated, “Like beam of sunlight it has brightened up the dark places of the earth.”
Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God hath done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
Perhaps no American hymn was ever received with such enthusiasm in Great Britain as this hymn. The London Daily, in giving an account of a meeting presided over by Gypsy Smith, reported, Mr. Smith announced the hymn „Count Your Blessings.‟ Said he, „In South London the men sing it, the boys whistle it, and the women rock their babies to sleep on this hymn.‟
Johnson Oatman, Jr - Lyrics
1856-1922
“During the great revival in Wales it was one of the hymns the hymns sung at every service along with such Welsh favorites as “Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah” and “O That Will be Glory.” The composer of the music, E. O. Excell, is a well-known name in early gospel hymnody. He was born in Stark County, Ohio, on December 13, 1851. At the age of twenty he became a singing teacher, traveling around the country establishing singing schools. For twenty years he was associated with Sam Jones, a well-known Southern revivalist. Excell was recognized as one of the finest song leaders of his day.
Born: April 21, 1856, near Medford, New Jersey. Died: September 25, 1922, Norman, Oklahoma. Buried: Mt. Holly, New Jersey.

In addition to writing and composing more than 2,000 gospel songs as well as publishing about fifty songbooks. He administered a successful music publishing business in Chicago. While assisting Gypsy Smith in an evangelistic campaign in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1921, he was suddenly stricken at the age of seventy and taken home to join the immortal heavenly chorus.

Understand Business Law & Regulations
As a small business owner, you are subject to the same regulations as large corporations. Even if you‟re starting out on a small level and planning to grow, you must comply with business laws and regulations from the day you open for business. Advertising Law You‟ve got a great product or service to sell, and you‟re anxious to begin promoting it to potential customers. To make sure the claims you make about your offerings are truthful and to protect consumers, all businesses have to comply with advertising and marketing laws. This section will help you understand the basic rules when it comes to advertising, labeling your products, and marketing online or over the phone. Employment & Labor Law Bringing employees on board to work in your business is an exciting milestone. You‟ll want to ensure that you are conducting employment processes in accordance to the laws. To help you understand and comply with federal and state employment and labor laws, SBA covers multiple topics in this section, including discrimination and harassment, termination, safe and drug-free work environments, and benefits and wages.
Privacy Law The promises you make to customers should include how you are going to protect their personal information and reduce the risk of identity theft. In this section, SBA gives you an introduction to privacy laws to make sure your business implements reasonable security measures to protect customer data and comply with children‟s online privacy requirements. Environmental Regulations The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state environmental agencies regulate the impact of businesses on the environment. EPA develops and enforces regulations that implement environmental laws enacted by Congress. Likewise, state agencies enforce regulations that implement laws enacted by the state legislature.
Uniform Commercial Code If you are conducting business transactions outside of your state, such as borrowing money, leasing equipment, establishing contracts and selling goods, you need to comply with the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC). In this section, you‟ll learn more about the entities that recommend UCC requirements, and how your business has to comply when filing financial statements and securing loans through proper lien.
Contact a Government Agency Contact government agencies to learn about small business programs and how to comply with government regulations. The resources below will help point you in the right direction processes.
Finance Law Healthy markets—where businesses can thrive— depend upon fair and open competition. In order to protect the financial interests of small businesses and individual investors, antitrust, bankruptcy, and securities laws have been established. In this section, you‟ll find an overview on these important laws and specifics on compliance and reporting. Intellectual Property If you‟ve got a great idea, invention or trade secret, you need to protect it. The steps involved in filing for patents, trademarks or copyrights are covered in this section, along with additional resources that can help you safeguard your intellectual properties, such as having employees or vendors sign non-disclosure agreements...
Online Business Law Doing business online can literally open your business to a world of potential customers. It can also expose your business to legal and financial liabilities, particularly in the areas of privacy, security, copyright and taxation. That‟s why SBA has compiled an overview of the rules and regulations for conducting e-commerce in this section. Even if you don‟t sell anything online, you should read this information. The laws covering digital rights and online advertising may still apply to you.

Workplace Safety & Health As an employer, you are responsible for protecting the safety and health of your employees. Over the last several decades, laws have been passed to ensure workers are protected from hazards in the workplace.

There are so many others out there doing the same thing as me that I wonder how I can set myself apart and get more sales. What can I do? My response: I understand your situation having once struggled as a multilevel marketer! Since I became a business coach and mentor, I have been able to see where I went wrong. My biggest blunder was attempting to sell everything to anyone, usually on first contact! This is what I now recommend: 1. CHOOSE A TARGET AUDIENCE. Even though your products appeal to a wide range of people, start by choosing a target audience to focus on. This will concentrate your efforts, giving you a more powerful impact. And it does not stop you from reaching those outside your target audience. 2. STUDY YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE Study your target audience to discover their pressing needs, for which they are already seeking a solution AND are already spending money. This is important because it’s easier to make a sale if it’s something they are already spending money on, than trying to interest them in something they were not planning on doing already. It’s not impossible, just easier! Match their needs with any products in your range that can solve their problems. 3. CREATE A SERVICE COMPONENT Create a SERVICE COMPONENT to go along with your product e.g. provide health and wellness or beauty consultations; become a qualified massage therapist, weight management coach etc and offer this with your products. It is your service that will differentiate you and add the extra value. 4. CRAFT YOUR POWERFUL MARKETING MESSAGE demonstrating the unique benefits you provide. 5. BECOME VISIBLE IN YOUR TARGET MARKET. Connect with your people via an educational newsletter, social media, blogging, offline networking, giving talks (e.g. on beauty or wellness issues) etc 6. BUILD YOUR OWN WEBSITE If your company allows it, or make your company-branded website unique with your personal touch. Have your picture there, plus a personal note. So many multilevel marketing sites are replicated templates without character, providing no particular reason why the visitor should buy from YOU. If your company does not allow individual websites, create a blog, name it after yourself and put the URL on all your marketing materials! Post to it frequently to build a community of interested prospects that you can follow up on and engage with. 7. POSITION YOURSELF AS AN EXPERT: Get the relevant training as a consultant, therapist or whatever is relevant to your business. Do not just be a peddler of your products! Mention this qualifica-

tion in your marketing. It will distinguish you from your less invested competitors. If you have received awards or any kind of recognition, mention this as well. Show that you are a professional and not just someone looking to make a quick buck. Then do the things that experts do: get interviewed or quoted by the media; end out press releases about your events; write a book or a column on your area of expertise; teach public workshops on your expertise and of course, have your related products on sale at the back of the room! This will attract the attention of those who need your products and services and stand you out from the competition, who usually focus on aggressive selling! 8. GET BUSY GENERATING LEADS Get busy generating leads! Offer a freebie at your website or blog. Set this up so that people provide their names and email addresses to receive it and automate delivery. This way, you can build a database of interested people to follow up on afterwards. Once you have established your niche business you can expand to other areas. Use these same principles to build your team. For instance, choose a niche regarding the kind of people you are looking to take on board such as stay-athome mums looking for extra income; people who hate their jobs and want to transition to self-employment; employed people looking to make extra money for a holiday/mortgage/to get out of debt. Have an ideal team member profile and stick to it. You do not want just anyone on your team. This focus will make your marketing much easier and more powerful, attracting both team members and customers. Remember to write in and share your insights and your feedback is warmly welcome!
