JUNKYARD GOLF CLUB WHAT: Junkyard Golf Club is a one-of-a-kind miniature golf course built for adults complete with four outrageously themed 9-hole courses. In addition to the themed courses with custom fabrication, stage lighting and loud music, Junkyard Golf Club also includes a selfie-booth and four themed bars with custom cocktail and food creations to make any game a little more fun.

WHAT: Rorschach is a new interactive exhibition by artist CJ Hendry. Taking place inside a warehouse in Brooklyn’s Dumbo neighborhood, Rorschach features 3,000-square-foot children’s bouncing castle which mimics a psychiatric ward with padded walls. Guests are encouraged to remove their shoes and make their way through the exhibition in custom socks. In one section, Hendry displays her latest series of inkblot drawings in large- and small-scale versions alongside holographic editions. Tickets are $10.

WHO: CJ Hendry WHY: Rorschach follows CJ Hendry’s trend of creating interactive, large scale immersive exhibitions of her work. Hendry, a self-proclaimed “instagram artist” seeks to find new ways to bring virality and extreme visibility to the art world.

HUMAN’S BEST FRIEND WHAT: Human’s Best Friend is a sharable experience for dogs and the humans who love them. Created to celebrate all things dog, dogs and their owners will travel through a series of technicolor environments including a ball pit, a bone bar, dog-slides and a ton of interactive photo experiences. Human’s Best Friend also gives owners the opportunity to try out new toys, treats and dog products. Tickets are $29 and 10% of the proceeds went to local rescue organization.

WHY: Human’s Best Friend lets dog-owners in on the fun of the selfie museum. While most spaces ban dogs, HBF gives dog-owners a space to play, relax and enjoy.

WHAT: HBO created a interactive pop-up exhibit celebrating the diversity of the female narrative as a part of Women’s History Month. The exhibit focused on diaries and featured giant-scale diary pages that preserved the original handwriting, drapes with pages of diaries printed on them, a stream-of-conciousness ticker installation, magazine wall and tea bar.

WHO: HBO WHY: As a continued part of their “Because of Her” campaign, HBO wanted to give a space where women could share their innermost thoughts using diaries as the medium. Women could submit entries through HBO’s custom landing page and websites of pop-up partners—they received several hundred entires from over 40 states in an effort to represent the best possible range of the female experience.

WHAT: The Lost Horizon Night Market is a secret box truck art carnival. Interactive art installations are presented in the backs of box trucks that appear overnight to create a makeshift carnival. The night market is an underground event where the only invitation accepted is word-of-mouth. 2018 installations included “The Glitter Shoot-Off,” a duel with glitter guns, “Mystery Grilled Cheese,” a blindfolded grilled cheese tasting and “Blood Bond,” a one-on-one horror experience guests had to sign a waiver in order to attend.

WHO: Lost Horizon WHY: The Lost Horizon Night Market embraces the renegade, underground spirit that New York thrives on. By giving space to a community of artists that think and create differently, the Night Market can continue to blow minds and exceed expectations.

LOST LAGOON WHAT: Lost Lagoon is a nautical adventure dreamed up by the minds at Bompas & Parr and Captain Morgan. Guests navigate a subterranean lagoon by boat as they receive rum-rations, collect special ingredients and face creative challenges . When they make their ways to the end of the journey, they find the greatest bounty—a wild rum-based island party.

WHY: The Lost Lagoon gives guests an outlandish amusement liquor experience while also accumulating knowledge about the Captain Morgan product. The experience connects theater, interactive installations and party culture in one space and gives audience members a wild inventive new way to learn about cocktails and the islands of the South Pacific.

WHAT: Stacks House is a new experiential pop-up designed to promote financial independence and help close the gap between women and wealth in America. The instagramable experience is filled with money-themed rooms and installations meant to promote financial literacy and inspiration for a healthier relationship with wealth. Rooms include the retirement rodeo, a mechanical pig themed experience that teaches you the value of compound interest, a debt boxing gym and a gold bar to celebrate personal financial victories.

WHO: She Stacks & Zelle WHY: Stacks House embraces the ideology of the instagram museum by creating one-a-kind photo friendly experience, but at the same time, empowers women by creating an environment that embraces wealth-building and financial independence.

ULTRAVIOLET WHAT: Ultraviolet is a multi-sensory single-table restaurant created by Paul Pairet. The restaurant serves a 20+ course meal to 10 customers a night in a controlled and tailored atmosphere. The dining room utilizes multi-sensory high-end technology such as dry scent projectors, stage and UV lighting, 360 degree wall projection, table projectors, beam speakers and a multichannel speaker system. Each dish is enhanced by creating a custom experiential atmosphere including lights, sound and projections.

WHY: Ultraviolet has been described as “the next steps in the chain of culinary evolution” by The New York Times. Pairet’s focus on “psycho-taste” connects mood, memory and expectations to the dining experience in an attempt to link emotion to taste.

THE PARTING OF THE PLASTIC SEA

PARTING OF THE PLASTIC SEA WHAT: “The Parting of the Plastic Sea” is an experiential installation created by Von Wong. For six months volunteers created a 10+ foot tidal wave of plastic using over 168,000 used straws, plastic bags and LED lighting. The installation is meant to engage viewers to take the first step towards paying attention to the plastic epidemic threatening the ocean ecosystem, the “strawpocalypse.”

WHY: “The Parting of the Plastic Sea” combines a jaw-dropping art installation with a eco-consciousness focused message. In creating a piece of art not only designed with recycled materials. but pushing viewers to take action towards the impending eco-crisis, Von Wong gives space for art and activism to live in perfect symbiosis.

THE MILE-LONG OPERA

THE MILE-LONG OPERA WHAT: The Mile-Long Opera was a weeklong citywide public engagement project staged on the High Line in New York City. The event brought together 1,000 singers in an ambitious choral work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, David Lang, and lyrics by acclaimed poets in multiple languages. The work focused on the time of performance and diverse stories inspired by first-hand interviews of New Yorkers from all walks of life to create a living biography of 7 o’clock in New York City.
