Work Experience:
Out and About (outdoor wares) November 2008 – July 2009 This gave me the ability to talk to customers, understand and explain advantages of different materials within the outdoor clothing industry. The Co-operative Food April 2010 – December 2010 This provided me further valuable communication skills. Whilst working there it gave me inspiration for my final A-level project, which was to address the problems with Wshop shelving e.g. the ergonomics of the shelving and reduction of food wastage, giving me an understanding of problem analysis in relation to products.
Present:
I am currently studying Design for Industry fulltime at Northumbria University, Newcastle. Where I am provided with multiple briefs, keeping to tight deadlines making good time management essential. Communication is also key between peers, as group projects are prevalent throughout the course. Using visuals such as sketching and CAD work, as well as clear verbal communication being an attribute to this. My interests within design are the factors of sustainability, and design ‘thinking’ as a whole process from product innervation to manufacture.
Skills & Leisure: Leisure:
Running and competing for my local running club. Competing in the West Yorkshire cross-country championships (2006-2010), also many other competitions. Providing me with a focus in addition to education. I am qualified as an athletics coach and have previously volunteer at my local athletics club (2006-2011), allowing me to develop an understanding of how to relate to a younger age group and work with their needs. Currently I am competing for the University Water-Polo Team, which requires training in the pool and the gym at least three times a week.
Software:
Familiar with multiple 2D and 3D software packages such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator (Adobe Creative Suite), Rhino, Solidworks and Graphite.
Life Experiences:
Travelled to Tanzania in the summer of 2011, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, which was one of my most physically challenging experiences. Part of the project was to work at a school near by, teaching maths and English as well as being apart of the team repairing the building.
