Placement - Pentland During my second year placement period I was fortunate enough to work for Pentland from April to July 2013. Throughout the placement I was able to work on a variety of projects from in house brand translation graphics to developing new concepts for new footwear lines for Lacoste Sport. The most pivotal part of my placement involved presenting my final designs to 18 members of the Lacoste Sport and LCST design and marketing team.
Feedback: Brian Kutsch - Line Manager
Feedback: David Hickman - Senior Footwear Designer
“It was a pleasure to have Adam on the Lacoste team. He approached his first work placement with professionalism and class. Adam worked on two footwear projects for Lacoste Sport. These focused on performance lifestyle nautical silhouettes for a consumer that is ahead of the masses with their style. He started a bit slow but as he went through the process he began to speed up to a good level. Adam approached these projects through sound research. He took this research and logically designed towards the set brief. All along the way, Adam took feedback in a positive light, which allowed him to continuously refine his initial designs. Combining the research and feedback, he was able to complete two final design solutions that were brand and market relevant. To complete the projects, Adam presented his work back to a group of nearly twenty product creation professionals, which can be a nerve-racking experience for any new designer. He took on the challenge and effectively communicated his design work to a Lacoste designer Level.
“Adam has a very good understanding of design. He showed that he understands the process required to produce strong design solutions. His research was very in-depth and wide ranging which greatly benefitted his final design as well as enthusing the team at his final Presentation. His is a very easy person to work with; he has a great work ethic and an easy going personality. Adam listened to advice and was open to alternative ideas. This open-minded approach showed a willingness to grow and learn which was demonstrated in his final design and presentation. I enjoyed having Adam as part of our team and he would be an asset to any team.”
Adam’s future growth should continue to focus on always learning to build his capabilities. For him to realize his full potential, he will need to break out of his comfort zone and interact with as many different professionals as possible. Adam has a bright future ahead of him. His willingness to be ‘always learning’ is his biggest asset at this point of his career. He has a good foundation approach to design from research to ideation sketching, which comes through in his final design solutions. As he gains experience and builds his capabilities, I’m confident he will blossom into a top-level designer and would recommend him for another placement.”

Placement - Trig Creative During my third year placement period I was fortunate enough to work for Trig Creative from March to August 2014. Throughout the placement I was worked on many live projects, being involved with initial design sketch development and client meetings through to initial prototypes and final manufacture. The projects varied from commercial and medical products to high-end consumer electronics. Due to the nature of the projects completed, the work still remains confidential until in the public realm. References available on request.
Skills Developed During my five months with Trig, I was able to refine my own personal communication skills both within client and internal meetings. In addition I have been able to improve the way in which I illustrate my own design work, within commercial design time constraints.
