“W

hat does being an entrepreneur mean nowadays? The entrepreneur is “an individual who starts and/ or manages a business, assuming the risks and responsibilities thereby entailed”. But what does it really mean? Over the years, entrepreneurship has changed, just as the tastes of consumers and markets have changed. And with globalization, competition has intensified. Faced with these changes, entrepreneurs have to tweak the kind of product or service they provide, devising new strategies and identifying new markets; in other words, they have to innovate their company by intuiting how a given market may or may not evolve. This comports risk, of course, but the meaning is much deeper. Entrepreneurs are madmen, visionary children who most of the time are imagining a reality that doesn’t yet exist, and they don’t give a damn about those who invariably root for them to fail. They doggedly push forward. It’s a very crowded category – everyone wants to be an entrepreneur, at least of themselves, but only 10% manage to realize their visions in a concrete way, and a mere 2% succeeds on a significant scale. Here are the traits that characterize a true entrepreneur, in my view: Passion: nothing can happen without passion. An entrepreneur without passion is like a car without gasoline – it can’t go anywhere. Creativity: the meaning of creativity has been distorted by the artistic notion of making abstract things that are difficult to realize. Being creative for an entrepreneur means seeing every situation from different points of view. Creativity is life! Optimism and Resourcefulness: although the difficulties will be many, don’t let it get you down. If what you’re doing were easy, everyone would be doing it. It’s vital to take risks. If you don’t try, you’ll never know what could have been. And remember, without investment there can be no return. Tenacity and Flexibility: keep believing all the way. This trait has made the difference in many cases between successful entrepreneurs and those who ‘gave it a try’. Don’t give up at the first obstacle. And you need to be flexible when the rapidity of response can mean the difference between success and failure. Idea/Dream: it’s essential to never stop dreaming or believing in the idea. Pragmatism is just setting concrete goals without ever allowing the dream component to threaten each step. Objectives: these give you a framework for avoiding the pitfalls of navigating blind, a way to program you dream and turn it into reality. Therefore, you always need to have your short, medium and longterm objectives clearly established. Discipline and Study: Continually honing skills and staying informed is essential. And the resulting knowledge must be disciplined. Without discipline, it’s like swimming with no particular stroke, which costs energy and breath. Dear readers, being an entrepreneur is a tough job... but someone’s gotta do it.

Even makeup undergoes a metamorphosis inspired by a desire for freedom and lightness, which leads to more highperformance foundations, lipstick with myriad textures, and cheeky, sexy capsule collections. A new trend from the States has just arrived in Italy: a makeup line by famous tattoo artist Kat Von D., seen here in Italy on the TV show “L.A. Ink”. The collection, sold exclusively at Sephora beauty stores, is full of ultra-pigmented, long-lasting, resistant makeup. The packaging, entirely designed and drawn by Kat, is full of designs resembling the famous tattoos created by this eclectic and rebellious artist. Clarins, with its strong focus on women’s needs, proposes a new strategy for combination and oily skins to keep shininess at bay and visible pores under control. For a “Photoshop” effect and an even complexion, the right foundation is Teint Pores et Matitè, with its special ultra-light formula that lets the skin breathe and creates a selfie-proof finish. oday you can rejuvenate the face, fight hair loss, and tone the neck and décolleté. How? Through your PRP (platelet-rich plasma): centrifuged blood used in skin treatments is able to repair and regenerate our tissues. Regenerative surgery is now the new frontier of plastic surgery. PRP is a powerful concentrate of growth factors able to stimulate the proliferation and migration of fibroblasts and the synthesis of collagen – the foundation of our skin – to improve the vitality of the derma. PRP is obtained by drawing a patient’s blood and centrifuging it. This process leads to the production of a part of plasma with a high concentration of platelets that help repair and regenerate tissues. PRP is not just a beauty treatment, but a method that aims to optimize skin conditions and improve its appearance, consistency and elasticity. The main uses of PRP in bioregeneration are face rejuvenation, the reduction of alopecia, neck and

décolleté toning, improvement of the skin quality on hands, and augmentation of certain body areas such as breasts. PRP is injected into the skin of the parts to be treated. Because it is an autologous material – meaning, it comes from the patient – there is no risk of allergic reaction. The session lasts about one hour, including the time for the blood draw, and it leaves no sign. The first results are visible after a few weeks and the final result is obtained after approximately one month from the session. As with any other injected treatment, small bruises and slight swelling can occur but disappear within a few hours.

he beetroot, also known as red beet, is not an extremely common food, but we would be wise to welcome it more often to our table, for it is a great ally of a healthy body. The beet performs two fundamental services in our body: a beneficial effect on the intestine, thanks to its fiber content, and the strengthening of our immune system due to its wealth of vitamin C. It is a versatile ingredient that can be used for both savory and sweet dishes, even as a natural dye for fabrics. Glowing skin, a stronger immune system and a focused mind are some of the benefits that red cabbage can bring us. It is an

excellent food for those on a diet because it’s low in fat and high in fiber, and it promotes the breakdown of fatty deposits, especially around the abdomen. Rich in vitamin K, choline and anthocyanins, it is a valuable support in mental function and concentration, and also provides large amounts of vitamin C, which helps keep skin looking young and protects it against free radicals. It is also an excellent natural detoxifier. Adding boiled and chopped beet to the whole yogurt makes a perfect mask for fighting skin redness: spread it on the affected area and let it act for about 10 minutes and then remove it, first with hot water and then with

cold water. Shredded red cabbage leaves applied to the skin of the face are a good remedy for smooth, glowing skin.

RED SALAD This easy-to-make salad is a concentrate of mineral salts essential for our health, such as phosphorous, iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium. It’s the ideal recipe for a quick lunch or a light summer dinner on the terrace, not to mention a great way to keep our skin looking its best.

BEACH BODIES by Vincenzo Lentini

I

n summer, many of us stop exercising. Blame it on the heat, vacations, travel, more frequent dinner parties, pizza and beer on the beach, not to mention the croissants and cream-filled donuts the next morning after a night on the town. For many it’s customary to give in to laziness, replacing the usual abdominal crunches or morning run with a quick dip in the nearest body of water or the sacred summer afternoon nap Yet studies show that summer is really the best time to do sports, because our body is designed to maximize the results of training in the warm months. Thanks to our ‘internal clock’ – the mechanism that regulates our biological rhythms – in the winter months the human body produces greater amounts of cortisol, a hormone that

NEWS encourages the accumulation of fat, especially in the abdominal region, as a response to the winter cold, whereas in summer there is a spike in the secretion of anabolic hormones like GH (growth hormone) and testosterone, which, being also lipolytic hormones, promote the dissipation of excess body fat. For these reasons, supported by real science, it goes without saying that summer is the perfect time to exercise even more, devoting maximum consistency to our training. Hanging up our running shoes, barbells and floor mats in the summer, then, is the worst thing we can do, for we not only risk wasting all our hard-earned progress during the colder months, but it will be a lot harder to start again in September after the prolonged relaxation of the summer months. Wellness must be understood as a way of life,

where caring for our body and maintaining an ideal mind-body balance is a top priority. If you’re a habitual gym-goer, you already know that physical strength obviously tends to decrease in the summer because of high temperatures and the greater loss of mineral salts from sweating. Therefore, it makes better

It is the originary element that gave birth to every other, and if you pay attention you can see it everywhere. Nature, food, advertising, music, cinema, literature: everything seems to be about water. Water has always been a metaphor for the flow of life. Panta rei, said Heraclitus in the 6th century BC, reminding us that everything flows, just like the cool waters of a river, carrying away debris and bad thoughts.

River. More fearless is Major Lazer who, with Justin Bieber’s voice, declares in Cold Water his love for a woman, the only one for whom he would be willing to jump into the icy waters of distress before letting her go. The Beatles, on the other hand, spun a bizarre tale back in ’66 of a cheerful submarine that went to sea, and indeed Yellow Submarine is still one of the most popular songs of the lads from Liverpool, at the center of several controversies that attributed their music to an LSD trip and sparked the outrage of the entire Christian world after John Lennon said, “We’re more popular than Jesus Christ right now”. Unlike the Beatles, Chris Martin and his Coldplay have never dared to challenge the Vatican with such provocations, but they have put water at the center of their music with Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall, a moving tribute to pain that explains why a tear is never as small as it seems, but can be a powerful waterfall, an expression of great suffering. Mika makes use of water to show us the other side of love, where the kiss of a loved one is an inexhaustible source of oxygen, which even makes it possible to breathe underwater. For Lykke Li, water is instead like a river that sweeps us, magnetic and wild, towards the sea, impossible to resist.

Sauna The Power of Heat W

hen you want to indulge in a moment of sheer well-being and eliminate toxins from your body, a favorite option is certainly the traditional sauna, which is one of the most popular spa treatments in the world. Today saunas are found in practically all spas and fitness centers. Thanks to its characteristics, the sauna is able to stimulate the body, improve circulation and boost the immune system. Currently, however, a new sauna concept -- the infrared sauna -is gaining ground. There are clearly differences between the two. People who use the traditional Finnish sauna know how difficult it sometimes is to endure the excessive heat inside for a long period. That difficulty does not occur in the infrared sauna: this full immersion of dry heat provides pleasant sensations of well-being and relaxation very similar to the feeling one has in the summer while sunbathing. The rays produced inside the space heat the body without excessively increasing the air 38

LIVINGADAMIS.COM

temperature in the room, and the body is able to absorb more heat than in a traditional sauna. The benefits are the same but at a much lower temperature (about 60° C) and without the need to interrupt the session for a cold shower every 10 to 15 minutes. The result is an overall improvement of one’s psycho-physical health, more radiant skin and incredibly shiny hair. It should be pointed out that the benefits obtained in a classic sauna through perspiration that purifies the body in depth by removing toxins are different from those of an infrared sauna. It is no coincidence that habitual users of the traditional sauna rarely have colds and seasonal illnesses in the winter. People who want a new experience in a traditional sauna should try the Aufguss, which means a gust of steam. This genuine ritual of wellness, purification and relaxation is performed by a person called the Aufgussmeister, or sauna master. The ritual involves pouring water mixed with essential oils on hot stones placed on top

of the grate: when steam is produced, the Aufgussmeister skillfully sends it towards the client by making rhythmic movements with a towel, which causes an intense and enjoyable multisensory experience. In conclusion, whether we are inside a traditional or infrared sauna, we transform this experience into an occasion for

physical and also spiritual purification. It is a great moment of calm when you don’t have to think, concentrate or process things. Obviously, leave your smartphone in the locker. G.R.

Today, as in past, the Medici capital still remains one of the most magical, celebrated and mysterious cities in the world, and not without reason. Every street or narrow lane you travel exudes history and culture. These elements have earned it, as early as 1982, inclusion in the prestigious list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. However, looking beyond the usual tourist routes, it turns out that Florence can also be experienced in an unconventional way. Legends and mysteries softly whisper stories of passion, murder, magic and witchery. This does not mean that we should not stop in Piazza della Signoria, admire the Duomo or Ponte Vecchio, or visit the Uffizi, to name some of the most popular and appreciated attractions in the ancient capital of Italy. he time has come: having passed the swimsuit test and emptied the closet of winter clothes, the summer season has now begun with holidays, the beach and -- why not? -- the pool. So what are the swimsuit trends this summer? Miami Swim Week definitely set the trends inspiring both beachwear and swimwear. The first good news is that one-piece suits with or without sleeves are back in fashion: the most desirable swimsuit that sold out in a few hours is the Original Sexy Rashie by Une Piece, sold at $195: a long-sleeved one-piece swimsuit that makes any woman feel sexy and at ease. To buy one, however, you have to get in line: there are over 500 names on its waiting list! Another suit you don’t want to miss that can also be worn during a cocktail party at the beach is the crochet bikini with a seventies-style low-rise bikini bottom that can be worn with linen trousers and flat sandals: accompanied by a half-open shirt and necklace, it’s perfect for a night out. Another trend is definitely the sixties: a classic twopiece suit with a vintage cut and high-waisted striped or tropical print boy shorts embellished with ruffles and ruching (Michael Kors / Scervino / Miu Miu). Sporty surfer chicks can opt for the basic sports bikini that is feminine yet practical, like the one by Calvin Klein and Adidas Original By Pharrel Williams. On some beaches where SHOW OFF is the buzzword for access, the quirky swimsuits of Moschino by Jeremy Scott and Philipp Plein, emblazoned with logos and eccentric elements, will certainly be appreciated.

ver since ancient times, the desire of the powerful to assert their own greatness manifested itself in a race to build the tallest tower. Emperors, kings and princes, whether of earthly or spiritual kingdoms: a race that has never ended, which today as yesterday, every day, sees thousands of workers (no longer slaves), architects and engineers building ever taller and more majestic skyscrapers in every corner of the globe. of the cult of personality, instruments of domination, architectural priapism, a symbolism rooted in the male sexual organ. Today the world’s tallest building is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It stands about 830 meters high, with 167 floors and 57 elevators, some of which travel up or down from an altitude of 0 to +500 in a matter of seconds. Today the world’s tallest “ building is the Burj Khalifa restaurant (122nd floor), nightclub (144th floor) and observation deck (approximately 600 meters from the ground). Designed by Adrian Smith/SOM Architects, the building’s design is reminiscent of a spiral minaret, with a Y-shaped footprint inspired by Islamic architectural decorations. In the same part of the world, the soon-to-be tallest tower on the planet is under construction in Jeddah, capital of Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom Tower, predictably an homage to the King and his kingdom, designed by Adrian Smith & Gordon Gills, will be over 1008 meters tall. Not to be outdone, in Casablanca, Morocco there is another work in progress that many are calling the Tower of Sauron, in reference to The Lord of the Rings. universal theme, love; the biggest international names in contemporary art; rigorous and insightful curatorial choices which priortize quality above all else. This mix of elements has generated mass enthusiasm, as reflected in the long queues outside the Cloister of Bramante in Rome, where the exhibition was previewed before arriving in Milan on March 17th: the exhibition LOVE. Social Stories, entertainment and addiction

O

ur social life now seems to be ruled by a single commandment: thou shall share. Social networks have completely transformed our interpersonal relations and our approach to everyday life. Every moment, even the most trivial, can be perfect for sharing something about our daily life with anyone. The steps we take, the places we visit, the television programs we watch, and the faces of the people we love all become a likely reason of interest for others. Social networks are the most democratic means of communication between us: they give a voice to anyone, without distinction, going beyond social classes, ages, and sometimes even decency. Moments become images and videos: like the small pieces of a big puzzle, they create a story. Stories are a brilliant invention of Snapchat, the social network primarily used by Millenials to share short media content. The photos and videos shared on Snapchat profiles are only visible for 24 hours, after which they are deleted. The same applies to private messages: once opened by the recipient, they cannot be viewed again. The users of this revolutionary social network also have at

their disposal a wide variety of filters and stickers that are updated every day to make their posts original and unique. These posts with images and short videos accessorized with filters, stickers and colorful phrases tell their story and keep their loyal followers in the loop about what’s going on during the day. The great little Snapchat app was too good of an opportunity for Mark Zuckerberg, the genius who forever changed the way we communicate, who took advantage of it to further expand his social empire, adding the same function first to Instagram in August 2016, then to Facebook and even to Whatsapp, transforming his users into genuine storytellers. So now we have several places for telling our stories that, day after day, have gained more ground and become the main communication tool used by social networks. Influencers and

“Social networks are the most democratic means of communication between us: they give a voice to anyone, without distinction, going beyond social classes, ages, and sometimes even decency ordinary people, moving along that fine line that separates entertainment and addiction, all feel the need to tell their story with just a tap of their smartphone, without wondering if someone, on the other side of the screen, is actually interested in viewing them.
