EDI TO RI al

Welcome, I will try to briefly summarize the changes taking place in the selective cosmetics sector with regard to the development and consolidation of large industrial groups. Let’s start by analyzing the recent moves by the big luxury groups. L’Oreal, like Coty and LVMH, going against the trends determined by the general market crisis, has been acquiring major luxury brands in recent years. The most striking example in the world of high-end beauty products was Coty’s acquisition of Procter & Gamble’s Special Beauty Business (43 brands) for a total of more than $12.5 billion. Among the most prestigious brands are Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Hugo Boss, et.al. Not to mention the LVMH Group, which in the past five years it has invested $10.5 billion in 41 acquisitions, or 23% of total M&As in the luxury segment and 31% of the value of this activity. Money spent for the most part in Italy with the purchase of Bulgari in 2011 for $5.6 billion, and 80% of Loro Piana in 2013 for another $2.6 billion. L’Oréal was not far behind. It bought leading brands in cosmetics like NYX Cosmetics in 2014 and It Cosmetics in 2016, an upmarket American company with the highest growth rates in recent years. Not to mention the acquisition of Magic Holdings International Limited, a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and leader on the Chinese market in the masks and facials with its MG brand, which recorded a turnover of about 166 million Euro in 2013. The tender offer was $6.30 Hong Kong dollars per share, for a total cost of more than 630 million Euro. So as we can see, the luxury sector doesn’t hesitate to “go shopping” in times of crisis. Especially since, with the data in hand, particularly for the online luxury fashion industry, the articles and products most in demand will be those that signify craftsmanship, refinement and uniqueness. The future market challenges will focus on the large demographic of new consumers, the Millennials, more difficult to attract and loyalize because they’re less brand-oriented than the previous generation, and who will have to be convinced to buy from the luxury sector. Mario Conti A challenge that will prioritize the consumer Editorial Director experience, an issue that has always been very dear mc@livingadamis.com to us at ADAMIS GROUP. @ mrconti000

odernity is the leitmotif of fashion in 2017 with striking colors such as yellow and turquoise, fine materials and street style fabrics like denim and canvas in contrast with luxurious tulle and elegant trench coats. Even in makeup, an interpretation of a romantic, elegant street style requires a formula that combines color, timelessness and urban-glam appeal. Chanel, that indissoluble queen of elegance, triumphs with an exclusive capsule collection called Coco Codes that, through the eclecticism of designer Lucia Pica, confirms Madame Coco’s rules of style. The color wheel is tinged with black, white, beige, gold and red: five shades that accompany the reawakening of the season with cool, rock interpretations. Thanks to its ultra-soft texture, it can be applied by brush or simply blended with the fingertips. The Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow palette presents two new versions for seductive eyes: Codes Elègants, with an eccentric golden yellow, and the subtler Codes Subtils, with rich natural hues brightened by delicate khaki green and coppery brown tones. For a more intense gaze, eyeshadow is accentuated by a smudged or precise line drawn with the waterproof Stylo Yeux, a pencil with retractable lead that lines the base of the lashes and resists water, humidity and sebum for hours of staying power. Aqualyx The non-surgical

LIVINGADAMIS.COM

A

HEALTH & FITNESS

qualyx, also known as the Motolese or M Solution, is the star of intralipotherapy, which is the non-surgical treatment of localized adiposity. The therapy is done as an out-patient procedure without the use of laser or liposuction cannula. Special syringes inject the liquid solution into fat tissue. The solution, composed of a lipolytic substance called sodium desossicolate, breaks down fatty deposits in the area through a controlled release method. The injected solution attacks the membrane of adipocytes – which are fat cells – and gradually eliminates the localized fatty deposits, reducing their volume in 3 or 4 treatments. At least 30 days must pass between treatments. Suitable for localized areas such as a double chin, abdomen, buttocks, hips, knees, and on the inner/ outer thigh, Aqualyx must be administered by a licensed doctor and needs no local anesthetic. Swelling or edema are possible collateral effects after treatment and can be treated through lymph drainage sessions. It is recommended to drink at least two liters of water per day during the entire treatment period to facilitate diuresis and the elimination of fatty molecules through metabolic processes. This technique is not permanent: therefore, fatty deposits may return in the treated areas. During the exam, the doctor will suggest the best treatment, which may be liposculpture or liposuction.

Avocado The king of berries by Cassandra Del Fosco

O

riginating from Mexico, the avocado is considered a fruit by many. In fact, it’s a giant berry with excellent nutritional properties and benefits for the human body: it slows down cell aging, helps fight cholestorol deposits thanks to a high linoleic and omega-3 fatty acid content, functions as an anti-inflammatory and even serves as an optimal skin treatment. The only counterindication for the avocado is its elevated calorie count, making it

20

LIVINGADAMIS.COM

unadvisable for anyone trying to lose weight. Gastronomically, it’s a versatile ingredient that lends itself very well to both summer and winter dishes. It can be used as an alternative to butter or margarine in the preparation of yeast doughs and desserts. It’s an excellent hydration treatment for both facial and body skin: just massage the area in question with the inner part of the skin, which is rich in oils, letting it sit for about 10 minutes, then remove this 100% natural cold

cream, first with warm water, then cold. You’ll be amazed at the results!

Avocado Cream with Cocoa Avocado cream with cocoa is quick and easy dessert. It’s versatile and can be served at the end of a meal, with langues du chat cookies, or as a snack, spread on toasted bread.

Ingredients 1 ripe avocado, 70 g organic agave syrup, 100 g unsweetened soy milk, 10 g bitter cocoa 1 tsp powdered vanilla

Method Peel the avocado, remove the pit and cut flesh into cubes. Put all the ingredients in a blender, one at a time, until reaching the desired consistency.

The Algila Ortigia Charme Hotel 4*S is on the ancient Mastra Rua road that was a hub of high society and commerce in the Sicilian city already in the thirteenth century. The very elegant palace housing the hotel was once one of the most beautiful noble manors of Syracuse. Following a painstaking restoration project, this ancient building with keystones and arches carved in stone is now a fascinating venue for guests who can enjoy all possible modern amenities during an unforgettable stay. Elegantly furnished with antiques and painted ceramic tiles, the most beautiful jewel of the hotel is its Deluxe Spa suite. Located on the roof of the building, it has a magnificent terrace overlooking the sea, a large hydromassage tub, solarium, four-poster king-size bed and, for staying connected, free WI-FI. Hotel Castello di Casole A 10th century castle in Tuscany. Hotel Castello di Casole is the perfect example of how a prestigious historical landmark can be carefully restored and provided with luxurious amenities without losing the undeniable charm and poetry that a castle inevitably evokes. And when we add the infinite charm of the Tuscan countryside, nothing could be better! Having undergone several renovations over the centuries, the castle has had many proprietors and was once owned by the unforgettable film director Luchino Visconti who welcomed many Hollywood celebrities here. Besides its location, other strong points of Castello di Casole are its suites and amazing spa, and also its fine food and

wines. For a truly unique experience, we suggest choosing one of the studio suites arranged around the perimeter of the inner courtyard and elegantly decorated in the classic hues of the Tuscan countryside. Completing the experience is the Essere Spa, which is accessed by way of a romantic cobblestone path and was built inside a former wine cellar. The spa treatments are inspired by the concepts of harmony, relaxation and comfort zones. For a complete detox beauty treatment, we recommend booking a honey massage using crystallized wildflower nectar mixed with essential oils for use as a massage oil. The soothing and moisturizing properties of the massage make it a real cure-all for the body. Cost: â‚Ź135 for 50 minutes.

A level of traffic that has brought major transformations to the sector. A ‘new era’ for pharmacies that has already seen the role of the pharmacist change radically, more a ‘work in progress’ than a fixed function, where the

THE PERFECT BEAUTY CORNER

Celebrated in countless paintings and films like Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the dressing table, or petineuse, is a classic furnishing element, a touch of feminine luxury for conserving jewelry, accessories and makeup.

by Chiara Di Loreto

I

n its heyday from the 17th to the 19th century, the dressing table played the role of the most intimate accomplice of feminine beauty, a symbol of a beauty routine that laid the foundations of modern cosmetics. A private corner where ladies of yore would fix up their makeup and wigs, today this piece of furniture has been taken up by designers in different styles 44

LIVINGADAMIS.COM

and types. And perhaps precisely because the frenetic pace of contemporary life demands a ‘faster’ approach to beauty, the desire to dedicate time to ourselves has come back stronger than ever. The dressing table epitomizes this desire, an homage to relaxation and personal care. Here follows a basic guide for creating your own personal vanity corner. You won’t need much, it’s the details that make the difference!

INTERIOR

“ The vanity is definitely an emblem and tribute to relaxation and personal care

INTERIOR

Essenzial There are lots of dressing tables out there, but creating your own is simple: all you need is a table of the color you like, a mirror to rest on it or hang on the wall, a lamp and a stool or comfortable chair. The difficult part is choosing the right position: it should be a luminous space, but at the same time secluded enough to ensure privacy and intimacy. For example, a niche or a free wall of the bedroom or bathroom wall can be turned into the perfect corner for your beauty rituals. The important thing is to avoid uncomfortable or heavily trafficked areas.

As for the choice of table, although it’s associated with frivolity, that doesn’t mean it has to be frilly. Choose what you want to keep there, remembering that if you put everything on your dressing table it will end up being a storage shelf rather than an elegant styling station. To create a beautiful and balanced space, opt for one or very few main colors and build your beauty corner around this chromatic base. If your home decor is minimal, the dressing table should be as well, perhaps using a designer coffee table and a stool with light, modern lines.

“It is easy to create your own vanity: you just need a mirror that can rest on the table or hang o n the wall, a table painted in the color you prefer, a lamp for lighting, and a stool”

46

LIVINGADAMIS.COM

INTERIOR

Romantic The more romantic among you can give free rein to your most feminine impulses, opting for light pastel colors, maybe shabby chic in style, or for a classic Victorian vanity table to feel a little like a princess. Fresh cut flowers in a vase are a good idea, as are cut crystal perfume bottles and antique jewelry boxes. If you want to make it even more original and feminine, you can drape necklaces or wreaths of dried flowers on the mirror, perhaps accompanied by small picture frames with portraits of your style icons.

G

iorgio de Chirico and Giulio Paolini, together for the first time in an exhbition. The venue is the Center for Italian Modern Art (CIMA) in New York, and it runs until 24 June, 2017. The exhibition demonstrates once again (for the fourth time over the course of the year) the mission of this institution, founded to promote the study of 20th-century Italian art abroad. Giorgio de Chirico – Giulio Paolini / Giulio Paolini – Giorgio de Chirico, the title of the show, explores the direct ties between two artists born in different centuries but characterized by deep affinities: the founder of Metaphysical Art and one of the foremost exponents of Conceptual Art. Hosted in a splendid New York loft (specifically, on the 4th floor of a historic cast iron building at 421 Broome Street in Soho, in a space designed by Irina Verona), visitors can admire important Metaphysical masterworks by Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978) that haven’t been seen in the States for a half century, namely 10 paintings and drawings from 1910-1950. The works on display by Giulio Paolini (born 1940) range instead from 1960 to the present, including a new series of works on paper and site-specific installations created expressly for this exhibition. As the CIMA installation demonstrates, Paolini has appropriated several of de Chirico’s meditations on the nature of representation, acknowledging him as a precursor of postmodernism. The result is an exhibition with a double focus on both artists, in an attempt to reveal a heretofore unexplored connection. The works of de Chirico and Paolini are arranged in three groups, centered on themes that both artists considered fundamental for their respective enquiries: enigma, selfportraiture, the idea of the ‘double’, and the manipulation of the iconography of classical antiquity. An important multimedia conceptual artist, Giulio Paolini began working as a graphic designer before turning his attention to painting, sculpture, photography and, later on, multimedia installations. Paolini lives and works in Turin and has participated in numerous international exhibitions. Particularly memorable was his first solo show, composed of a series of untreated wooden panels affixed or hung on the walls, thereby underscoring the relationship between the image and surface behind it. The practice and poetics of Paolini are, generally speaking, a self-reflective meditation on the artistic dimension, its timeless ‘classicism’ and its vanishing pointless perspective. Through photography, collage, plaster casts and drawing, his intention is invariably to investigate, with great conceptual rigor, the tautological and at the same time “metaphysical” nature of artistic practice. ith the arrival of the new year, an innovative new project was launched in the world of selective distribution in the perfumery business. Massimo Zonca, a well-known and respected professional in the sector, first established a consulting firm called Beauty 3.0 and then created La Beautic, a brand that unites privately owned perfume shops. We met him in his new office to tell us about the organization and the objectives of his new project.

LA BEAUTIC A nEw sign fOR 2017

54

LIVINGADAMIS.COM

Let’s start with the name: what does La Beautic mean? The name combines the two words “beauty” and “boutique”. La Beautic is a registered trademark owned by Beauty 3.0, the consulting firm of which I am the CEO. What type of perfume stores will join this project? Directly-owned perfume shops are joining. There are already 82 stores throughout Italy and 21 companies participating. What does La Beautic offer in the business? We mainly work to satisfy consumers. These are not new stores, but existing ones that have decided to sign a services agreement with Beauty 3.0 to achieve their objectives.

Zonca, a “ Massimo professional who is

well-known and respected in the business, first founded a consulting firm called Beauty3.0, and subsequently created The Beautic brand, which represents privately owned perfume stores

with advantageous, effective and immediate promotions. In terms of our presence in Italy, we want to unite approximately 300 innovative, quality stores over the next three years.

Why should consumers choose this new brand? First of all, the consumer is not choosing a new perfume shop but will continue to have a relationship with the staff that she or he has known for years and to use the related quality services that distinguish the store. We will try to give the consumer a sense of belonging to a new network and will work in that sense, creating new targeted sell-out opportunities. You’ve just started: what activities are planned for this first year? Yes, we have. Although we’re in the midst of creating a new company, we’ve already launched Saint Valentine’s promotions in all our stores. We’re making plans for 2017 and you’ll be surprised. How will La Beautic develop over the next three years? The objective of Beauty 3.0 and the La Beautic brand will be to meet the expectations of final consumers, always trying to be present

hOROSCOPe ’17 ARIES 21.03/20.04 Things are looking up this spring! The stars are benevolent and you’re longing to meet new people. Great love stories, in which you have invested time and money, take off and turn into something magical. Work seems to head in the right direction after your hard efforts this winter. Your health, which has given you a hard time all winter, stabilizes. Beauty tip: stay away from crash dieting this season.

GEMINI 22.05/21.06 The arrival of warm weather will trigger new emotions and last-minute palpitations that underscore your erratic temperament. The new season and the stars may bring unexpected news on the job: new positions and promotions will be welcomed and life at home will indirectly benefit. Beauty tip: take long walks after work to improve your circulation.

LEO 24.07/23.08 Mars and Venus have not been too helpful in your private life, but the situation will radically change when warmer weather arrives. The desire to spend quality time with your partner will prompt you to organize a romantic weekend. It’s smooth sailing at work and new projects are on the horizon. Watch out for eye allergies during this period. Beauty tip: try a spa day for two with a Jacuzzi in the room.

TAURUS 21.04/21.05 Good vibes from the stars will let you meet people and form lasting friendships or something more: spring will bear fruit. Work has drained most of your energies lately and you are tempted to make risky financial investments. Beauty tip: try cucumber juice in the evening as a detox therapy.

CANCER 22.06/23.07 The last few months have not been the best. Your sentimental routine has experienced a drastic change, and you aren’t too happy about it. But the arrival of sunny days will stimulate serotonin and your search for a great love. Work may make you nervous and stressed: go out at sunset to breathe the fresh air! Beauty tip: drink a valerian herbal tea before bedtime.

VIRGO 24.08/23.09 Life with new partners and spouses may experience some ups and downs, but under the influence of Venus, emotions will be felt with intensity and delight. Lately your personal life has taken a back seat to your job: always staying late at the office doesn’t help your friendships or your gastritis. Beauty tip: try water aerobics twice a week to tone legs and buttocks.

LIBRA 24.09/23.10 Dear little Libras, spring is on your side! Recent dormant feelings will awake to experience breathtaking new emotions! Couples in steady relationships will start planning a life together. Job experiences have led to positions of responsibility, and you’re focused on your career. You’re enjoying good health and good fortune. Beauty tip: take a yoga class to exercise your muscles and mind.

SAGITTARIUS 23.11/21.12 With Mars and Saturn in opposition, your love life might experience a few “creaks” but hold tight and soon the rough patch will be over. Business meetings after work hours may give you that promotion, but your health is more important, so watch out for accumulated stress. Beauty tip: try argan hair treatments.

AQUARIUS 21.01/18.02 Love is definitely in the air this spring. Old loves will rekindle intense emotions and those looking for their soul mate won’t have to wait too long thanks to a few mutual friends. The business deals in which you’ve recently invested energy and money are starting to bear fruit and entrepreneurial projects are taking off. Beauty tip: wear high heels and mini dresses in the evening.

SCORPIO 24.10/22.11 Things are heading in the right direction after several difficult months. Due to a favorable alignment of the planets, the breakthrough could come very soon in your personal life and love will be the first aspect in which you will notice this change. You aren’t too satisfied with your job but with the arrival of warmer weather, even a brunch downtown with colleagues will have a different flavor. Beauty tip: drink citrus fruit and carrot juice.

CAPRICORN 22.12/20.01 Lately, you’ve been reflecting on your relationship with your partner and managing life as a couple. Now, thanks to Venus’s positive influence, it’s time to start seeing life again through rose-colored glasses. The work climate is serene and more activities spark your natural ambition. Finances are in decline because of unexpected expenses for the home. Beauty tip: Take an evening bath with almond milk.

PISCES 19.02/20.03 The sentimental situations that have been dragging on for months must be clarified, but this will open the way to priceless inner serenity. New encounters will spark dormant passions in inveterate singles. Work has its ups and downs and you’re irritated by your boss’s latest tantrum: take it easy. Beauty tip: treat yourself to a body scrub this weekend.
