Three Performances (see below) After the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands in 1940, Bella Treumann Berliner (greatgrandmother of Barbara Hamilton) hid in Utrecht, Zeist and Rotterdam, aided by the Dutch Resistance. She was age 60 in 1940. Excerpts from Bella’s wartime diary are interspersed with musical excerpts by her favorite composers, along with historical slides of the era. Bella survived the war and emigrated via Sweden to the USA to be reunited with her family in 1946. Music of Bach, Brahms, Shostakovich, Chopin and Beethoven, and excerpts from Bella’s diary. Art teacher Deborah Nolasco of Boston K-8 has been organizing the show alongside DAVA for seven years. For the third year in a row, the educators will create and donate small art works in conjunction with their large-scale pieces. Each of the clay wall hangings were created at a professional development workshop conducted by APS teacher Jacquelynn Ryan. All proceeds raised from this portion of the show will be donated to A.J. Boik’s Memorial Scholarship at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. A.J. graduated from Gateway High School and was planning to attend RMCAD to study Art Education, but his life was cut short in the Aurora Theater shooting. The stage is yours! Come out and compete in our regional talent show competition. This popular competition is broken into voice, music and variety categories. Medals awarded to the top three finalists in grades K–4, 5–8, and 9–12. Winners will advance to compete in the Grand Finale State Competition against other winners from participating communities.
