The courage to dare: a dream come true Paulo Coelho once wrote: “The world is in the hands of those who have the courage to dream and run the risk of living their dreams”. We at ADC Group also believe that the most exciting, and often toughest, challenges are worth pursuing. Indeed, extending our event to a global audience was not an easy task, yet we accepted it with a clear outlook: in an increasingly connected world, competition in our industry is now truly global. Thus, there are no territorial borders to creativity or organisational skills, as undeniably proven by the quality of the work presented at this year’s Festival. The outcome is indisputable: 296 projects from 27 countries and an overall 7% increase in entries compared to 2016. Yet another record session since the awards began 12 years ago. The Festival’s success abides in its modern and remarkable format. Across three days, delegates attend live presentations of all competing projects, delve into a rich content programme, network with participating companies and agencies, discover the beauty of Porto as well as the assets it offers the event industry. Such format has already
helped both clients and agencies in finding the right partners for their international expansion. Hence this year’s slogan: Where Creativity Meets Business. Many thanks to Apecate, who believed in the project and wished to host the event; to all local and international partners who helped in making it happen; to Ilka Dzeik for an engaging content programme; to President Andrea Faflíková, and all other members of the international Jury who assessed all competing projects with commitment and passion; to our superb staff. I wish you all a very prolific Bea World Festival.

Welcome to Porto and Bea World Festival! Apecate, the Portuguese Association of Congresses, Tourist Animation and Events, is intent in defending the interests of its associates, promoting and improving their conditions - namely on a legal level, the knowledge and training of professionals, creating more sustainability. We hope this event is an excellent challenge for all participants. For Apecate, it is an honour to be the co-organiser of Bea World Festival, promoting interaction between different agencies around the
world and the Portuguese, sharing experiences, developing concepts and creating knowledge. To host this gathering, we chose the beautiful city of Porto with its enormous potential for the organisation of events. Such outcome was only possible with the good support of Turismo de Portugal I.P., Câmara Municipal do Porto, Atp and an Edp, among many others that allowed us to provide you with this programme. Welcome to Porto and Bea World Festival!

Bea World 2017, a great opportunity of knowledge, challenges and business From the very beginning, as Vice-President of Apecate and General Producer of Bea World 2017, I knew that this would be a major event for Portugal and, more specifically, for Porto. I am glad to ascertain that such beliefs were confirmed, as EuBea opened its doors to the whole world, becoming Bea World, and also broke the record of competitors with the highest number of entries ever. This year’s theme is ‘Where Creativity meets Business’. All Bea World team members worked hard to transform such theme into a reality for all Festival attendees, gathering in the same space the best of our industry to share knowledge, challenges and possible business partnerships in the future. Special thanks go to our Apecate associates, because without their support our involvement would not be possible either. This is proof of how Portuguese companies are prepared for big challenges! Thank you also to all institutional partners, but especially
to all the companies that have joined this initiative: Edp, Europcar, HF Ipanema Park, Tap, CP Comboios de Portugal, Mgc Transportadora, FactorChave, Eventos By Transalpino, Bull Insurance, Europalco, ServicePack, Restar, Grandpa’s Lab, Ehtp, Go-WiFi, Palace Catering, Silva Carvalho Catering and Ibérium Cafés. As the General Producer of Bea World 2017, I hope you have a great time and come back to organise your events in Portugal!

Portugal, charming destination for worldwide events Turismo de Portugal welcomes Bea World 2017. Portugal is one of Europe’s most charming destinations and the Portuguese people are among the kindest in the world. Our country is known for its hospitality, culture, gastronomy and great climate. Attracting prestigious international conferences and events to Portugal is one of our top strategic assets and we are confident in providing the best conditions and infrastructures for a memorable event. The city of Oporto is quite well served with an excellent

network of international flight connections and has suitable venues located in the heart of the city, as well as fantastic transportation and hotel availability. We believe Bea World 2017 will reinforce the outstanding conditions Portugal has to organize worldwide events and welcome all event planners to the city of Oporto. The Bea World nominees, guests and attendees will certainly enjoy Portugal’s cultural heritage, landscape and entertainment. Enjoy your stay. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Porto, the best destination for ‘the event of events’ In the last decade Porto has been a proud and privileged venue for major sporting events, such as the RedBull Air Race, Wrc Rally de Portugal or the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship. Porto has also become a reference in urban animation, promoting events such as Nos Primavera Sound, São João or New Year’s Eve. In the cultural field, the city has stood out by programming events held in landmarks, in cultural equipment of great expression, such as Rivoli, the Coliseu, the São João National Theater, Casa da Música or the Serralves Foundation. Its capacity of attracting audiences to these great events is a case study, as their scope goes, quite often, far beyond the borders of the city and of the region of North Portugal. At a period where Porto is being qualified as an economically and socially sustainable city, the city demonstrates keeping alive the ancestral characteristics that have always linked is to the world, which justifies its own name: ‘Porto’. Porto is now a cosmopolitan city, which enjoys diversity, which coexists well with the upcoming challenges of the
future, but still is very proud of its rich and wide range of traditions and of its patrimony. I believe that hosting in Porto the ‘event of the events’, which is Bea World Festival – suits us very, very well. It suits us well because it will give us the possibility to showcase the extraordinary conditions that the city has, both in terms of infrastructure and human skills, to host outstanding events like this one. For the quality of its hotels, for the quality of its services, for the warm welcome and for the institutional support, Porto is now increasingly a destination of excellence. Elected European Best Destination three times in the last five years, the city is now clearly enjoying the statute it achieved.

The programme Day 1 - 16th November 2017 World’s Best Events – Live!
18
The first day of the Festival focuses on the awards competition: take a chance to learn from live presentations of the world’s best events, the signature feature of the Best Event Awards. Nominees have the chance to present their projects live in front of the Jury and the audience, in a face-toface interactive situation. Each presentation features a 3-minute video, a 3-minute speech, and a final 3 minutes for Q&A. The Jury panel consists of senior managers from top corporate companies with international responsibilities and representatives of national event agencies’ associations, and is divided into three rooms. Each group is assigned an equal number of entries, divided by categories, to be assessed during
the open-to-all session. At the end of the live presentations, each Jury group establishes the winners in the assigned categories. Once reunited in a plenary session, behind closed doors, the Jury validates the results in the different categories and then assigns the Bea World Grand Prix and the special awards. Take advantage of the excellent networking opportunities offered by Bea World and meet the right people. Visit the Hall of Fame and find a partner for your next event. At lunchtime, don’t miss the chance to take a seat with people of your interest and discuss a specific topic during the Star Talk & Lunch. In the evening, join a suggestive delegates’ dinner at Porto Cruise Terminal surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 2 - 17th November 2017 Learn from the best! Learning and networking are the watchwords of Friday’s daily programme. Build your personalised agenda in line with your expertise and needs. Learn how to adapt business strategies and tactics by choosing from uplifting keynotes, experiential workshops, successful corporate case studies or practical sessions. This year’s keynotes combine deep industry insights with just the right amount of inspiration, interaction and fun. This includes an exclusive sneak peek at a smart city marketing and what is required to make a destination attractive for tourism and events; valuable insights for business success from the latest findings in the field of communication and consumer behaviour; a dive into brain sciences and how these can be applied to events to achieve better results. In the afternoon, access the focused, detailed information you need by choosing from among sessions and trainings – all organised into four specialised knowledge tracks: 1. Best-in-class corporate cases: sessions featuring best practices to help you optimise live communication experiences and outcomes. 2. The future of human interaction: sessions featuring communication strategies with participants pre-, during and
post-event for high interaction and how to turn challenges into opportunities. 3. Your sessions – your solutions: delegate-owned sessions, in which they discuss their individual challenges and receive guidance and advice from experts and other attendees willing to share their ideas for high engagement and successful events. 4. Experimental lab: extend your Bea World experience by adding a popular educational workshop to your schedule. Discover the secrets of experience marketing or meeting design and shift your thinking from events to experience campaigns and participant journeys. During the break, visit the Hall of Fame, join a Star Talk & Lunch that matches your interests, and then Pick a brain and meet a speaker or Jury member to discuss your ideas, challenges and obtain advice from the experts on specific issues. In the evening, find out who are the winners of the Best Events Awards 2017. Dress up to the nines, join the triumphal and highly exciting Awards Ceremony and honour the world’s best events of the year! The following party is designed to celebrate, until the small hours, all winners and participants alike.

Venues Porto & its venues One of Europe’s oldest cities, Porto’s historic centre was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1996. The western part of its urban area extends to the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. Its settlement dates back many centuries, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its combined Celtic-Latin name, Portus Cale, has been referred to as the origin of the name ‘Portugal’, based on the transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. In Portuguese, the name of the city is spelled with a definite article (‘o Porto’; English: the port). Consequently, its English name evolved from a misinterpretation of the oral pronunciation and referred to as Oporto in modern literature and by many speakers. Today, Porto is one of Portugal’s foremost
cities and is a truly breathtaking place. Its streets are full of churches with tiled façades, beautiful buildings of various styles, such as the Baroque, and brightly painted houses alongside the river in Ribeira. Named European Best Destination in 2012, 2014 and 2017, Porto has much to offer and you will undoubtedly want to explore every corner of this beautiful and increasingly cosmopolitan city. All Bea World Festival Delegates will receive a special gift included in their Delegate Pass: a 3-day Porto.CARD! It will grant free access or discounts in more than 170 places of interest: museums, monuments, restaurants, as well as tours and activities.

The Festival Venues ALFÂNDEGA PORTO CONGRESS CENTRE: MAIN FESTIVAL VENUE (15TH-16TH NOVEMBER)
Eduardo Souto de Moura, whose work has been honoured with the Pritzker Architecture Prize, recently rehabilitated Alfândega Porto Congress Centre, a centenary building that used to be a Custom’s House. The venue surprises with its simultaneous mix of tradition and modernity, and with the fully equipped, state-ofthe-art congress centre that lies within its historic walls. It’s a privileged location in the heart of Porto’s historic city centre, considered a World Heritage site by Unesco. Standing by the Douro River, it offers exclusive sights and proximity to several nearby tourist attractions. The site provides 24 multifunctional spaces spread across almost 50,000 sqm, with translation booths, 2 private car parks suitable for 400 vehicles, a shipping dock and free access to the 3 permanent exhibitions in its cultural and museology areas. Address: R. Nova da Alfândega, 4400 Porto; Ph. +351 22 340 3000; www.ccalfandegaporto.com PORTO CRUISE TERMINAL: DELEGATES’ DINNER VENUE (16TH NOVEMBER)
The new Leixões Cruise Terminal is an important gateway for Porto and the Norte Region of Portugal. It emerges from a dynamic territorial cooperation linking two main objectives: enhance the efficiency of the commercial port, by maximizing the attractiveness of cruise activity as a high growth potential segment, and improve a better urban integration. The terminal arises from an aggregate of actions comprising a pier for cruise ships up to 320 m long; a main building with approximately 15.000sqm of floor area (which also houses Uptec Mar, the Sea Center of the University of Porto Science and Technology Park); and lastly, a public pedestrian access along the south pier, linking it with the city of Matosinhos. Designed by the Portuguese architect Luís Pedro Silva, it has already picked up different national and international awards and recognitions, including the 2017 ArchDaily Building of the Year Award and the AZ Awards Best Public Building of 2015. Address: Av. General Norton de Matos, 4450-208 Matosinhos; Ph. +351 22 999 0700; www.apdl.pt

RIVOLI: AWARDS CEREMONY VENUE (17TH NOVEMBER)
The Teatro Municipal do Porto (TMP) is a project initiated by the Culture Cabinet at Porto’s City Council, constituted by two theatres, Teatro Rivoli and Teatro Campo Alegre. Following the cultural mission of the Municipal Executive, elected in 2013 and led by President Rui Moreira and Councilman for Culture Paulo Cunha e Silva, the TMP holds the balance between local, national and international multidisciplinary artistic production and circulations a top priority. Since the beginning of 2015, under the artistic direction of Tiago Guedes, the TMP has been reinforcing its position as a point of reference for the Performing Arts in northern Portugal, with a focus in Contemporary Dance. At present, Rivoli hosts a national and international programme, along with some of the city’s main events. Its Grand Auditorium Manoel de Oliveira has a capacity of 728 seats and the Auditorium Isabel Alves Costa 158 seats. The theatre is also equipped with a studio, ideal for rehearsals and artistic residencies. The recently refurbished Café Rivoli is also a perfect location for social and professional meetings. Address: R. do Bonjardim 143, 4000-440 Porto; Ph. +351 22 339 2200; www.teatromunicipaldoporto.pt ATENEU COMERCIAL DO PORTO: AFTER PARTY VENUE (17TH NOVEMBER)
The Ateneu Comercial do Porto was founded on August 29, 1869 by merchants of the city of Porto, and resulted from the merger of other similar unsuccessful institutions. The founders chose the motto “Inter Folia Fructus”, which portrays their purpose of “promoting and cementing good relationships among associates and providing them with an honest and civilizing pastime through ordinary meetings, dances and readings, conversations and lawful gambling.” The headquarter is in Rua Passos Manuel, no. 44, since May 1885. Equipped with magnificent facilities, its real jewel is the Library, with a collection of over 40,000 titles and 80,000 volumes, among which a first edition of Os Lusíadas. The building features also a noble hall, many enchanting rooms, and a valuable artistic heritage which includes oils, sculptures, and stoneware. Its history is very rich, and it is impossible to list the several national and international events hosted over the years. Address: R. Passos Manuel 44, 4000-295 Porto; Ph. +351 22 339 5411; ateneucomercialporto.pt

What’s the value of content at Bea World Festival? Great speakers, industry-relevant topics and many networking opportunities: does this provide any value to Bea World Festival participants? It all comes down to the benefits gained in return for their time and money to join the festival. Session content is well chosen if delegates confirm that they learned something new that they can and will apply to their job. Speakers communicate knowledge effectively if participants confirm that they can explain content to a friend or colleague afterwards. Networking is successful if attendeesaccomplish a connection with people of value to their business. This best describes the key objectives of the educational programme, and all sessions will be measured against these objectives to determine if any adjustments are necessary for the followingtime. ‘Involve me and I will remember’ – the foundation for successful learning. At Bea World Festival we want to open minds with unconventional session formats, a strict ban on marketing fluff and plenty of facilitated opportunities to
interact with speakers, jury members, suppliers, potential clients and peers. ‘Pick a brain’ appointments with experts, meeting the stars at pre-booked topic-led lunch tables, joining peers for unconventional keynotes, experiential workshops or sessions are only some of the opportunities available to discuss business challenges, to grow networks and increase business opportunities. Bea World Festival provides a great platform to hit a big time ROI – so start now and make use of it.

EVENT PROFESSIONALS OF THE FUTURE, WHO ARE YOU? 11.30-12.00
We are nowadays fully immersed in the analysis and discussion about the different generations of professionals we have in our actual teams and the ingredients we need to ‘cook’ our future teams with. We need to match the next generations of talent with our company needs and future plans of evolution. Which skills are needed, above and beyond current competencies, to cope with the trends in events and live communications? Do managers have to re−think their resources? And what about employee plans? Is what you attain from university or your internship what future employers need when selecting your talent? What about entrepreneurship? Are you ready to think about setting up your own business? Will you need to be a data analyst, a technician, a technologist, a meeting designer or a social media specialist? During our session we will try to construe the topics mentioned above. THE VALUE OF FACILITATED NETWORKING & PRE-EVENT ENGAGEMENT. HOW TO TURN CHALLENGES INTO OPPORTUNITIES Human interaction is not longer only about human beings, but also about machines. The possibilities that technology offers are numerous. In this hands−on session, we will take a look at today’s challenges pre, during and post−event and we will examine the workshop solutions together. Two real case studies that solve this problem will also be shared as a touch point for discussion. Three main topics will be addressed: 1. How do you support attendees in connecting pre−event and finding the people that are of value to them? 2. What can you do to improve pre−event engagement? 3. How do you keep them in touch until your next event? How can you turn them into returning customers? SPEAKERS: Matthijs Otto (Networktables), Flavio Ventre (Digivents)

EXPERIENTIAL LAB #1: MEETING DESIGN AND ROI. STRATEGIC EVENTS REINVENTED 14.30-16.30
“Cancel all events”, “Clients seldom have a clue about meeting processes”, “Stop wasting money on Wow”. Just a few statements from the two passionate meeting professionals who will conduct this session. Good events deliver measurable bottom line value, but what justifies spending a lot of money on them? Nine centuries of History have refined the blend of heritage and cosmopolitanism in Porto. Without waiving its allure, the city stands out in the international setting as a unique brand in its own range. Porto has been elected European Best Destination, the city is one of the most sought after business destination, and Porto is recognised thanks to a combination of factors. It is a fascinating picturesque scenery that overlooks the river Douro; the dense urban fabric of the city centre, World Heritage Site. The climate summons to unveiling beaches, green areas and the reference architecture from different ages, up to the contemporary period. The cultural experience extends beyond geography. Knowledge and innovation revamp the urban network. The warmth of its people unites the city. Only by addressing everything that Porto is can one grasp the grand initiatives in the creative and cultural industries, in economic and social life. The celebration of St. John’s day, the Book Fair, The Forum of the Future, Serralves em Festa Festival, Primavera Sound and Red Bull Air Race are only examples of local identity versus global dimension.
