WORDS Millie Looker

In a world of things we love, here are a few extra special picks...

When it comes to local businesses, our general rule of thumb is to embrace everything our exceptional state has to offer. But every now and then, a business opens our eyes to something truly extraordinary and we fall a little more in love.

These are some of our favourite things:

Side Hustle (1)

Excuse the huge pool of drool… we’re daydreaming about Side Hustle Pizza. The Carrickalinga eatery is slinging traditional wood oven pizzas from 5pm until sold out, with pre-orders available in the mornings. Wondering which day to stop by? Keep an eye on their social media for opening hours, because they’re mixing it up all the time! We’re huge fans of the Capricciosa with fresh mozzarella, ham, Italian salami, mushrooms and olives. You’ll find the same talented team at the brand-new Tonino Deli in Goodwood, which has epic sandwiches! @sidehustle_pizza sidehustlepizza.com.au 1 Broadbeach Drive, Carrickalinga

Hunt & Gather Home (2)

In a dream world, we’d pick up every item at Hunt & Gather Home and move it all directly into our homes and office! Filled to the brim with gorgeous artwork, furniture, lighting, home decor, books, jewellery and more, it’s easy to see owner Jamie’s exceptional style shining through. You’ll also find in-demand brands like by charlotte and Huski, which make this an excellent place to shop for gifts.

@huntgatherhome huntandgatherhome.com.au 45/119 Belair Road, Torrens Park

Cobb’s Hill Estate (3)

We’re long-time fans of Cobb’s Hill Estate and we even celebrated Lauren’s 30th here. We've never doubted their delish wines, platters and charming scenery. But now, they’ve stepped it up with their new premium marquee for larger functions. Perfect for weddings with many picture-perfect photo opportunities, with picturesque gardens guarded by century-old oak trees, a stone-lined creek and bridges, beautiful private valley and vineyard views. Bookings are now open, so reach out to the team to book yours.

@cobbshillestate cobbshillestate.com.au 382 Swamp Road, Oakbank

Peninsula Providore (4)

Their olive oil is award-winning for a reason — it’s freaking delicious and has quickly become a staple in our pantries! Sourced from their very own olive groves on the Fleurieu Peninsula, we love knowing this liquid gold is made so close to home. But even better… they’ve branched out and added flavoured oils to their range, which has seriously elevated our cooking! Chilli, lemon, basil and more, a splash of these flavour-packed oils will take any dish to a whole new level. You can pop into their store on the first weekend of each month, from 11am–4pm.

Hentley Farm (5)

You might’ve sipped on a glass of Hentley Farm wine before, but have you ever had the full experience in their restaurant? This is a meal you’ll remember for many moons! The Discovery Experience will guide you on a sensory journey of local seasonal produce; the Petite Discovery offers a unique opportunity to savour the essence of Hentley Farm; and a seat at the Chef’s Table allows you to watch as the chefs prepare a unique experience, additional dishes, treats and pairings. Then, round out your day at their cellar door. Bookings are essential.

West Beach Parks (6)

There’s a reason why West Beach Parks keeps popping up in our magazine — we love it! It’s the ideal staycation spot the entire family will enjoy year-round. And with the most recent addition of their new state-of-the-art adventure play space in the heart of the holiday park, there’s endless fun for children of all ages on offer. Let the kids run wild while you breathe in the beach air with a cool drink in hand, feeling a million miles away from home… when in reality, it’s just a short drive. Bliss! @westbeachparks westbeachparks.com.au Military Road, West Beach

Olga’s Fine Foods (7)

We love Olga’s Fine Foods! Their full range feeds our families on the daily and we can never say no to one of their exceptional chicken or beef schnitzels. Chop them up in salads, pop them in a sandwich, enjoy with roast veggies and mash, or jazz them up with some passata and cheese when DIY-ing your very own parmy. You’ll find Olga’s Fine Foods in your local supermarket. And we suggest stocking up, because you’ll never be able to stop at just one pack!

Cristal Murray River (8)

Fancy a stay in a luxury apartment? Of course you do! But here’s the twist: Cristal is actually a FLOATING apartment on the Murray River. Enjoy a relaxing houseboat-style getaway, without driving and maneuvering your way along the River. Cristal has an impressive open-plan kitchen, dining and living room, as well as three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Swim straight off the back deck, take in the views and wildlife, and best of all… switch off and unwind.

The Dutch Pantry (9)

A truly authentic experience in the heart of Klemzig, The Dutch Pantry is a combo deal. Out the back, you can shop for Dutch delicacies and treats to take home, while the front of the shop is surrounded by a huge mural that transports you straight to Amsterdam. Sit down and enjoy classics, such as cones of Dutch fries topped with mayonnaise, beef krokets with a crunchy outside and a soft beef ragout inside, and the Dutch apple pie and tompoucen (vanilla slice). But don’t leave without trying their famous poffertjes (mini pancakes) — they’re out of this world!

It’s all in the name — this cafe is Mad Good! Their coffee is brilliant and their space is welcoming to all, including our furry friends and kiddos. But the real highlight is their menu, which is filled with brunch dishes that make our hearts happy. The Chilli Eggs is a fan favourite, while their sweet options are just as good. Hayley’s go-to order is the Smashed Avo with toasted thick-cut rye, tomatoes, homemade pesto, salad and feta. It hits the spot every time!

SA’s top towns unveiled

WORDS Felicity Allan

And the winners are…

When it comes to South Australian towns, we don’t like to play favourites, but we can’t deny that we’ve fallen head over heels for the 2024 hello SA Top Tourism Towns. These towns won the votes — and also our hearts!

Victor Harbor

Winning a Top Tourism Town award is a huge feat, but winning it two years in a row deserves extra praise… and that’s exactly what Victor Harbor has done! This town is well known as a beach destination, just an hour’s drive from Adelaide. But if you scratch the surface, you’ll find a destination that’s rich in arts and culture.

Every year, a curated selection of artists display their work at the Victor Harbor Art Show at Warland Reserve, which now claims the title of Australia’s largest outdoor art exhibition.

Looking past the annual art show, you’ll find the Coral Street Art Space, Tjil-urmi

Titi (Living Arts Centre). This vibrant hub is the beating heart of Victor Harbor’s art scene. Housed in a beautifully restored heritage building, the walls are adorned with an ever-changing array of exhibitions that showcase local talent and visiting artists alike. From contemporary pieces to thought-provoking installations and celebrations of First Nations heritage, this light and airy space also hosts workshops and a gift shop.

Wandering through town you’ll stumble upon several public art installations, each with its own story. Created by local artists and volunteers, these colourful works tell the tales of the region’s history and community spirit. Keep an eye out for the Telstra Exchange Building Mural and the Whaler’s Well by the waterfront.

Victor Harbor is known for celebrating the rich First Nations heritage of the Ramindjeri and Ngarrindjeri people, who have a deep connection to the Inman River (Muwerang), which is visually represented in the Muwerang Mosaic. This 36-metre-long permanent installation was created over several years with the

help of passionate, hard-working volunteers assisting with the delicate tasks of tile cutting and placement.

Continue your journey from Pultang (Victor Harbor) to Kaike (Granite Island) along the causeway to explore the etchings that tell the Dreaming story of Ngurunderi and a result of five Ngarrindjeri-Ramindjeri artists who collaborated on the project.

Victor Harbor’s arts and culture scene is as refreshing as its coastal breeze. It’s a place where creativity is celebrated and visitors are invited to dive into a world of artistic wonder.

Burra

This year’s Tiny Tourism Town also won the People’s Choice Award, so there’s no question… you MUST add Burra to your travel list!

Burra is an easy two-hour drive north of Adelaide, making it the ideal weekender. Steeped in history and charm, the region offers a captivating blend of old and new that promises an unforgettable experience.

Walking through Burra is like stepping back in time, with the main streetscape largely unchanged since the 1850s. Yet this historic town seamlessly weaves in

modern touches. Eclectic antique stores sit comfortably alongside trendy coffee shops and fashion boutiques like Iris and Wool, and Bullrush.

The Burra Heritage Passport Tour literally is your key to uncovering the secrets of this fascinating town. Collect your key from the Burra & Goyder Visitor Information Centre and embark on a journey through time. This selfguided tour grants access to 11 locked National Heritage-listed sites, including the underground cellars at the Unicorn Brewery and the historic Monster Mine.

As you explore these sites, you’ll gain insight into Burra’s rich mining past, a story etched into the very fabric of the town.

For travellers looking to dip their toes into caravanning or camping, Burra boasts caravan-friendly campsites, ensuring a comfortable stay. Alternatively, the beautifully restored Paxton Square Cottages offer a cosy retreat, combining old-world charm with modern comfort.

Nature lovers will be drawn to the Red Banks Conservation Park. Here, you can embark on the Landscapes of Change interpretive walking trail, which guides you through fossil-rich soils and showcases the breathtaking hues of the Red Bank walls at sunset.

Whether you’re delving into the town’s heritage, browsing through quaint shops, or appreciating the natural scenery, Burra offers a magical weekend getaway that caters to all interests.

Coober Pedy

For the second year in a row, Coober Pedy has taken out the Small Tourism Town award, so it’s safe to say this unique town has well and truly earned its stripes!

Coober Pedy is in the far north of SA, in the heart of the outback, but your efforts to travel such a long distance will be well rewarded! There’s so much to discover in the town, from its famed opal mining history to the intriguing underground lifestyle. But any visitor to Coober Pedy will tell you it’s the local characters that give the place colour.

Start your journey with a visit to Faye’s Historic Underground Home to learn about life in a dugout. Built forty years ago by three women, this attraction is a true testament to the pioneering spirit of the locals and even includes an underground swimming pool!

You can experience the spectacular changing colours of Coober Pedy’s ancient landscape at Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park, best viewed at sunrise

or sunset. For a glimpse into the arts scene and an insight into the deep connection to the country, it’s worth a stop at Umoona Community Arts Centre, featuring worldclass local Indigenous artists.

No visit to town is complete without an education in opal mining. Coober Pedy is the opal capital of the world, where locals are still working every day to unearth these prized jewels. A visit to Tom’s Opal Mine, Umoona Mine and Museum, or the Old Timers Mine give you a chance to immerse yourself in the history of opal mining. Or opt for an evening experience with Unearthed Australian Opal, where you can join the hunt to strike it lucky yourself!

Fancy a spot of golf on the desert plains, where the greens are black and the fairways are white? The local 18-hole course has been touted as one of the top ten most unusual golf courses in the world! Golfers use a piece of artificial grass to tee off across the desert landscape.

OPT FOR AN EVENING EXPERIENCE WITH UNEARTHED AUSTRALIAN OPAL, WHERE YOU CAN JOIN THE HUNT TO STRIKE IT LUCKY YOURSELF!

When the day draws to a close, head to the Big Winch for a cold sundowner and then it’s stargazing time! The region’s clear, unpolluted skies offer spectacular starry vistas as far as the eye can see.

A fascinating adventure awaits in Coober Pedy, so get outback and get underground!

Silo stays

WORDS Hayley Pearson

Always on the hunt for a unique getaway? We reckon this beauty takes the cake!

Located just an hour from Adelaide in South Australia’s gorgeous wine and grain region, Barns of Freeling is like no other.

Say hello to Australia’s first custom-built silo suites! What was originally a barn storing grain, fertiliser and equipment, as well as workmen’s quarters, is now luxurious accommodation and a beautifully restored event venue. And with the perfect blend of new and old, the whole place oozes country charm!

A unique experience

“Imagine sitting out on the balcony, looking out at the farm, feeling like you’re miles from anywhere. You don’t have to see another soul if you don’t

want to. We have guests who just want to relax on their balcony and enjoy the sunshine, surrounded by magnificent canola fields that change colour with the seasons. It really is an oasis in the middle of the countryside,” say local owners Sherinne and Gavin Schuster. I dare you to name another accommodation where you can lay in bed in a nine-metre bedroom and look at the stars through the top of a silo that would usually hold 300 tonnes of grain. I’ll wait…

Self-contained bliss

All three silos are self-contained, making each one the perfect spot you’ll never want to leave. “The local Foodland offers a click and collect

service so you can collect your goodies before you check in, or have them delivered to your suite prior to your arrival. There’s even a local pizza and pasta shop that delivers for just $7! The cafe around the corner also offers breakfast and sweets boxes that can be delivered straight to your fridge before you arrive,” says Sherinne.

Each silo has a kitchenette, a kingsized bed, an ensuite bathroom with heated floors and a delightful and very large bathtub to sink into at the end of the day. May we suggest pouring yourself a glass of Barossa wine or a cup of tea and take in the serene views from the oversized couch or your private courtyard?

Perfect for couples or groups of friends, these studios are a dreamy escape in the heart of the Barossa Valley.

We like to party

Are you a party planner or the queen of managing corporate events? Get your festoon lights ready for Barns of Freeling’s charming and beautifully restored barn, which provides the most stunning backdrop for your shindig! You bring your own style and trinkets to the party and they’ll bring the venue and furniture to make your life easier when planning an event. There are two main spaces to choose from and the venue holds up to 100 guests with plenty of room for a killer dance floor!

Whether you’re after a peaceful retreat, a romantic getaway or a unique venue for your next big event, Barns of Freeling is the perfect choice. Book a stay and find out why everyone is talking about this beauty in the heart of the Barossa Valley region.

Adelady family does Club Med Bintan

But first, family!
WORDS Hayley Pearson

If there’s one thing that Adeladies cherish above everything else, it’s family. We’d be a puddle on the ground without them! We get to travel all over the state, seeing and experiencing so much, but most of the time our families only get to see it through FaceTime.

That’s why we decided to book an adventure that included all our favourite people… our kids, partners and the grandparents!

The destination? Club Med Bintan!

Wait, where?

Bintan Island is a tiny slice of heaven in Indonesia and getting there is supereasy! It’s a quick six-hour direct flight from Adelaide to Singapore, followed by a 45-minute ferry to the island. Before you know it, you’ve got the sun on your back, cocktail in hand and you’re in paradise.

Club Med Bintan is the perfect backdrop for a multi-generational getaway and the beauty of this place is its ability to cater to absolutely everyone, regardless of age!

So, what did we get up to?

Papa Wayneo (Hayley’s dad)

He’s a photographer and an explorer, and can’t get enough of his two grandsons, Austin and Alfie. Wayneo was in his element, joining in all the watersport fun with the kids and getting up early with his camera to capture the morning light as it hit the beach.

Ganny Rosa (Hayley’s mum)

She’s a massage enthusiast, bookworm and exercise junkie, so Rosa was the first in the pool for aqua aerobics and the last to leave the day spa. She swam and kayaked at the beach with her grandsons each day. Whether it was a beachside massage or a rejuvenating yoga session, Rosa found her Zen in this tropical paradise!

The kiddos (Austin, Alfie and Sofia)

Every day was a new adventure for my boys! From stand-up paddleboarding and hopping between pools, to playing in basketball, soccer, water polo and volleyball tournaments. They even had a crack at the beachside trapeze. To be completely honest, though, the most

jaw-dropping experience for them was the endless buffet options for brekky, lunch and dinner!

Three-year-old Sofia was the star of the show… with her cute ringlets and hot pink sunnies, she strutted her stuff like she owned the joint! She spent her days in the pool or at the beach with Lauren, Nonno and Nanna. And when it all became too much, she’d nap in her room with Nanna, so her mum could get some much-needed me time.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

Your first step is to call 1300 748 748, or pop in to see our besties and Australia’s most trusted travel agents at Phil Hoffmann Travel! Their experts will plan, book and look after you every step of the way. They’ll also find the best deals and flights so you can get on that plane without a care in the world.

Photo: Supplied

Nanna Jules (Lauren’s mum)

Julesey’s a hands-on Nanna but also loves a cocktail by the pool. She fell in love with the outdoor activities and live entertainment every night. And let’s not forget the quiet moments: sitting on the balcony, watching the sun dip below the horizon, feeling the gentle sea breeze. Jules loved every second — even embracing her curly hair for the first time in decades!

Nonno Dino (Lauren’s dad)

When he wasn’t teaching Sofia Italian in the pool, he was part of the daily water polo challenge. He also tried his hand at golf, won the Club Med Games Night Poker Tournament and lapped up the all-inclusive bevvies and food. He didn’t stop to take a breath and at 77, Dino was living his best life in Bintan!

Jimmy (Hayley’s husband)

This buffet-loving, stand-up-paddleboardingobsessed dreamboat wasn’t going to miss a minute of the fun! His daily routine began poolside before making a beeline for the Drip Coffee Club when it opened, to fuel up for midday water polo with the kids. His only regret was that we didn’t get the couple’s massage every day!

Thanks (for the memories)

Every evening, we gathered for dinner to feast on international delights and recap our day’s adventures. We shared our favourite moments and planned the next day’s fun. The resort’s nightly entertainment kept us laughing and dancing up late, proving that age is just a number.

ANOTHER REASON TO GATHER YOUR GANG!

Generational Getaways by Club Med is especially amazing for large groups. If you’re travelling with a group of eight or more, you’ll get exclusive perks like priority room location* and reserved tables for dinner*.

Plus… groups of 20 or more will enjoy personalised services, a private cocktail party and a discount on their booking*.

*Conditions apply.

If you’re considering your next family getaway, take the whole clan to Club Med Bintan! There’s nothing quite like seeing three generations come together to laugh, explore and make memories that will be cherished forever.

Here’s to family and the magic of multigenerational travel. Thanks for having us, Club Med. We bloody loved you!

The Hills are alive

WORDS Felicity Allan

We’ve curated a Northern Adelaide Hills itinerary of the top 10 experiences you won’t want to miss...

When you think about heading into the Adelaide Hills, most people imagine the well-trodden path via the South Eastern Freeway. But if you’re up for a bit of adventure, the northeastern route begins just a 20-minute drive from Adelaide in Tea Tree Gully and it’s full of surprises!

1. Start your gastronomic journey at Topiary, on the grounds of Newman’s Nursery. This place is a botanical wonderland, where you can feast on brekky or lunch that looks like it’s been plucked straight from a fairytale.

2. Glen Ewin Estate is a triple threat restaurant, cellar door and events venue. If you’re visiting in February, don’t miss out on their fig picking!

3. If you fancy a pub vibe with a view, Inglewood Inn is the kind of place where you can kick back with a pint, munch on some up-market pub grub and admire the spectacular scenery.

4. For something a bit different, check out Paracombe Premium Perry. This SA-owned biz is all about pear cider (or “Perry” as the pros call it). Just around the corner is Paracombe Wines, a stunning spot for a tasting or to stock up on some wine for the home cellar.

5. Wildlife lovers, make sure you don’t miss Gorge Wildlife Park, where you can get up close and personal with a variety of animals. Perfect for a fun family outing!

PICTURE YOURSELF SIPPING ON FINE WINE, ENJOYING A SCRUMPTIOUS MEAL AND GAZING OUT OVER ROLLING VINEYARDS.

Mt Bera Vineyards.
Union Bridge.

6. Union Bridge is the new kid on the block — but with a nod to the past. This cellar door and restaurant combo is set in an old cold store, serving up everything from a traditional Englishstyle bitter through to their awardwinning Irish stout.

7. Wine aficionados, don’t miss Mount Bera Vineyards! Their new cellar door and restaurant offer the perfect backdrop for a leisurely afternoon. For a full culinary journey, opt in for the wine pairing with your meal — it’s the perfect match!

PLANNING TO STAY A LITTLE LONGER?

Check out these three places to rest your weary head: Leonards Mill, Templewood House and Vineyard Cottage at Mt Bera Vineyards.

8. Gin lovers, head straight to Applewood Distillery in Gumeracha. Their gin tasting sessions are a great way to learn about the art of distilling. It’s a gin-credible experience!

9. For those who are all about getting active, Templewood Horse Riding Centre is the place to be. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned rider, you’ll love trotting along the scenic trails.

10. If you’re craving an adrenaline rush, head to Fox Creek Mountain Bike Park. This place is a mecca for mountain bikers, with trails that cater to all levels.

@hydrogen _sa ohpsa.sa.gov.au

POWERING UP OUR STATE

Whyalla’s at the forefront of one of the largest green initiatives in the world. That’s right — it’s all happening here in SA!

The hydrogen power station is about to revolutionise Australia’s energy future. Set to become one of the world’s largest facilities of its kind, this innovative project will harness the power of hydrogen to produce clean, sustainable energy. Win-win!

South Australia is already a major producer of green energy, thanks to our largescale wind and solar farms, along with home solar panels. In fact, we often generate more green energy than we can use. Cue hydrogen...

Hydrogen is the ultimate green energy carrier. It’s made from just water and our state’s renewable power (solar and wind) and it burns clean, leaving zero emissions and no nasty pollution. Renewable hydrogen can also be stored. Whether the sun’s hiding or the wind’s on pause, it’s there on standby, ready to power up anything, anytime!

Why-alla? It has the optimum conditions — attracting an abundance of sun and wind, which is exactly what’s needed to jump-start hydrogen production. This incredible initiative won’t just be a gamechanger for our environment; it’s set to create a wave of new jobs and give the local economy a serious boost!

Real women in real estate

WORDS Millie Looker

In a male-dominated industry, it’s exciting to see so much diversity in the Century 21 team.

From office owners to property managers and office support staff, we’re here to celebrate the women paving the way at Century 21 South Australia. And to see what kind of difference a woman's touch can have when navigating one of the biggest purchases most will make.

Let’s hear it for (and from) these female powerhouses!

With 30 years’ experience in real estate sales, ownership and accredited training, and now as State Manager, how do you see SA’s real estate future?

Historically overlooked nationally, our real estate market is gaining attention for its affordability and value. This continuing interest will lead to an upward trend in interstate and overseas property and commercial investment in this state. To capitalise, we need to support potential growth with modern infrastructure and a cohesive livability vision, sustaining consumer confidence and investment, and enhancing the balanced lifestyle South Australians enjoy.

— Trish Johnson, State Manager SA

Rosalie Grickage (right).

“IT’S IMPORTANT TO BUILD TRUST AND EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION WITH SELLERS AND BUYERS, AND NURTURE BOTH PARTIES THROUGH THE PROCESS.”

How do you make sure C21 Barossa homes reach the right buyers?

We use social media, including Instagram, Facebook and TikTok to engage with our audience. We also leverage our database to reach the right audience, offering them detailed information while they share insights on their preferred home type and purchase location. This ensures the vendor and purchaser are happy with the sale — our ultimate goal!

Brianna Setlhong, Sales Associate, Barossa

What do people look for in investment properties?

Investors focus on properties in good

condition to generate steady rental income and have strong potential for appreciation. Areas with rising home values are especially appealing, as are tax benefits and landlord-friendly regulations.

Investors also value properties that are easy to manage, have a substantial resale value and attract reliable tenants, ensuring long-term profitability. Thorough market research on local sales, rental prices and economic trends is essential for making well-informed decisions that will yield good returns over time.

— Maegan McFall, Admin / Sales Support / Property Manager, Western Coastal

What’s the importance of a property manager when renting out your home?

They make the process less stressful by advertising it to gain maximum exposure on all relevant websites, reducing vacancy times and screening potential tenants.

Property managers are the first point of contact for any tenant requests for maintenance and repairs. They also ensure your rent is paid on time and follow up with tenants if rent is late. If needed, we issue legal notices and attend tribunal hearings on the landlord's behalf.

Legally, property managers must be fully licenced to ensure your property and tenancy complies with the Residential Tenancies Act.

— Carol Hartlett, Principal, The Bay Property Management

With 30 years’ experience, what are the most significant changes you’ve seen in the real estate market?

South Australia’s market has undergone a significant transformation! In the

Marg Kneebone.

1990s, property was relatively affordable, with marketing through print ads and local agents.

2019 saw a property boom driven by economic growth and interstate migration. As technology advanced, so did real estate marketing. Online listings, virtual tours and social media have become essential tools, making it easier for buyers to explore properties remotely. This shift increased competition and broadened the market reach, increasing prices and changing buyer expectations across South Australia. The Economist’s Global Liveability Index named Adelaide as Australia’s most liveable city in 2021 and the world’s third most liveable city.

— Rosalie Grickage, Principal, Semaphore and North Haven

What’s the biggest challenge people have selling their homes at the moment?

In Adelaide, property scarcity can help sustain values despite fluctuations in buyer behaviour. Sellers benefit from working with experienced real estate agents who not only understand the variation of the current market but can also effectively communicate and justify the value of their property.

For buyers, agents are crucial in navigating the market and adjusting expectations in response to changing financial conditions. Homeowners should feel assured that, even with shifts within the economic landscape, the inherent low supply of properties in Adelaide provides a strong foundation for maintaining fair market conditions.

— Angie Markovic, General Manager, City Inner North Prospect

How do you know if your home would make a good holiday home?

When buying, it’s all about location, location, location! But this is even more crucial if you’re looking to invest in a holiday home. It’s not just about whether the location suits you and has good potential for future value growth, but it should be in a location where people want to get away to. Well-known holiday hotspots and the right location within that area are ideal.

For example, right on the beachfront, within walking distance to cafes, nearby tourist attractions, or having a great view of the beautiful surroundings. There’s also a growing market for remote vacations offering peace and solitude away from our busy day-to-day lives, so these types of homes can be suitable for holiday homes, too, but may not achieve the highest occupancy rates.

— Shelley Bezuidenhout, Principal, South Coast

Your success means you must have had lots of success for your sellers. How do you do it?

The key to any success is the team around you. It’s important to build trust and excellent communication with sellers and buyers, and nurture both parties through the process.

Repeat and referral business are the best compliments to any agent. It’s a privilege to be invited into a home, so we’re very mindful that we’re selling someone’s greatest asset and need to get it right.

And finally, be humble and kind, as every circumstance is different — the needs and expectations of vendors will differ with every sale!

— Marg Kneebone, Sales, Coast to Vines

Fighting for the everyday

WORDS Millie Looker

For The Hospital Research Foundation Group, supporting life-changing medical research is an everyday kind of thing.

You may recognise their efforts from their popular Home Lottery or annual #ForkCancer event, The Longest Table. However, the true impact of their work goes well beyond these events, with funds raised going to life-changing medical research, hospital care and health services.

The Hospital Research Foundation (THRF) Group funds over 50 areas of disease and illness across South Australian public hospitals, research

institutes and communities. Its mission is clear: allow everyone to live each day to its fullest, regardless of the health challenges they face.

It all starts with research conducted by the incredible people who dedicate every day to fighting disease. Let’s meet three real-life Adelaide heroes:

Dr Sarah Boyle, Breast Cancer

Dr Boyle is an emerging leader in her field, specialising in the biology of breast cancer. She’s dedicated her life to fighting breast cancer and now, it’s personal.

“My mother had surgery and radiotherapy to treat breast cancer twice,” says Dr Boyle. “Hers is a success story and I’m grateful I still get to experience those everyday moments with her. While this was my initial inspiration for pursuing a career in cancer research, I continue to gain inspiration from the women I’m working with, who have lived experience of this complex disease.”

Professor Timothy Kleinig.
“I CONTINUE TO GAIN INSPIRATION FROM THE WOMEN I’M WORKING WITH, WHO HAVE LIVED EXPERIENCE OF THIS COMPLEX DISEASE.”

THRF Group proudly funded Dr Boyle’s early research to investigate the physical forces that occur when tumours grow and spread. She’s now progressing this work with both THRF Group and Government backing.

“In understanding the factors driving breast cancer growth and spread, we can identify ways to intervene and stop the effects of the environment and forces on cancer progression, contributing to better outcomes for patients.”

Dr Boyle has gone above and beyond for this fight, but you don’t have to be a researcher to create everyday moments for people battling breast cancer.

By fundraising or donating to THRF Group, or buying a Home Lottery ticket, you’re directly supporting research like Dr Boyle’s that aims to halt breast cancer spread.

Professor Timothy Kleinig, Stroke

Professor Kleinig fights for the everyday — every day. As a globally-recognised neurologist and Head of the Stroke Unit at Royal Adelaide Hospital, he saves the lives of people who present to emergency with stroke.

Time is of the essence for stroke, with any delay in treatment resulting in a very different outcome to a patient’s recovery or disability — that’s if they survive the stroke at the time.

And thanks to Professor Kleinig’s worldleading research, backed by THRF Group,

he’s trialling new treatments for stroke that are having remarkable recovery outcomes even if you miss the critical treatment window.

He says, “There have been enormous advancements in stroke treatments in recent years. The latest involves pulling the clot out directly from the affected artery in the brain. Thanks to THRF Group’s generous support, we’ve been

trialling this procedure and several new clot-dissolving medications, with exceptional results.

“We’ve seen patients who participate in the trial make a complete recovery from something very likely to have been a fatal stroke otherwise.”

Now, these patients can continue to spend everyday moments with their loved ones.

ADELADY
Dr Sarah Boyle.

Associate Professor Quenten Schwarz, Childhood Cancer

Associate Professor Schwarz has spent a lifetime helping kids and their families have a better life — free from the heartache of childhood cancer.

As a world expert in neuron development and Head of Neurovascular Research at the Centre for Cancer Biology, his work spans childhood cancers such as neuroblastoma, glioblastoma and medulloblastoma, and neurodevelopmental disorders like schizophrenia and autism.

And while he tries to keep the hardline as a researcher and academic, as a dad, he knows how important his research is.

The story of Edwina, now 10, but who battled neuroblastoma as a two-year-old, is one where a little emotion creeps in.

“She’s an inspiration to many people,” he says. “I know my family is always so emotional about her story. My daughter cut her hair and donated it for neuroblastoma research. Having Edwina and her mum attend the fundraiser event for this meant so much.”

Edwina’s story and others like hers give Associate Professor Schwarz the purpose of finding better treatments with less damaging side effects.

“The disease itself is not treated well. Unfortunately, about 50 percent of kids diagnosed with neuroblastoma succumb to it.

“We need better ways of treating it, better ways of diagnosing it. And underpinning that, we need more fundamental research into why it arises in the first place.”

THRF Group is proud to fund Associate Professor Schwarz’s research into neuroblastoma, which has led to a national Medical Research Future Fund grant to progress this crucial work.

None of these phenomenal researchers can continue their vital work without financial support from organisations like The Hospital Research Foundation Group. That’s where you come in. Give the gift of the everyday by donating at hospitalresearch.org.au

Ooh-aah golf

WORDS James Worthington

If you’re going to jag your first ever hole-in-one, there’s a fair chance you’ll make it happen at Little Para Golf Course!

Only 30 minutes from the city, Little Para has been re-designed for proper fun. There are no memberships or stuffy clubhouse rules. Just a sign that says, “Walk in, play on”. That’s all you need to do!

It features the latest course from SHANX Mini Golf — the Southern Hemisphere’s only professionally designed miniaturised golf courses. We’re not talking about amusementbased minigolf featuring clown heads and giant reptiles crushing cars while you’re trying to putt. These courses have been designed to play like professional putting greens, but without all the distractions.

THERE ARE NO MEMBERSHIPS OR STUFFY CLUBHOUSE

RULES.

SHANX Mini Golf courses are affordable for everyone. An authentic golfing experience, without taking your entire day. “It’s challenging but achievable golf, filled with ‘ooh-aah’ moments,” says Peter Vlahandreas, Managing Director of GreenSpace Management.

Peter has a world top-100 golf course architect designing his SHANX Mini Golf Courses. “He’s designed some of the best golf courses in the world. And our council partner, the City of Salisbury, has been great working with the vision,” he adds. 400-year-old gum trees surround the site for SHANX’s latest thrilling course and you could be forgiven for thinking you’re standing on the banks of the Murray River. He says, “Everything we’ve removed from this site has been put back in. It’s 100 percent sustainable”. Peter’s team added pops of colour through Japanese maple trees, ornamental pears and waves of lavender around the greens. It’s big and colourful!

“Little Para’s one of the best parthree courses in the country,” he says. A drawcard was adding the full-length driving range with Trackman Range™ in each of the bays, where golfers can test themselves on the best courses in the world. Peter says, “In the middle of

Salisbury, you can play Pebble Beach or LeGolf National, where they had golf for the 2024 Olympics. We can also link all eight screens and have kids all playing simultaneously. They can even choose their character!”

Little Para Golf Course, featuring the brand-new SHANX Mini Golf Course, is fully licensed and has an incredibly fun food menu, and is your gateway to golf. It’s ready and waiting for people who love the game but don’t love all the old traditions.

What does a day in the life of Chelsea Carey look like?

My daughter’s an early riser, so it’s not unusual for us to be playing with PlayDoh and wearing superhero costumes by 7am! When everyone’s ready for the day, I head to work.

Once in the newsroom, I search for local community events to do a weather cross, then call the Bureau of Meteorology and chat with a forecaster. I write my scripts, pop into hair and makeup and then travel to the location of my live crosses.

We all know how important coffee is to a busy mum. Where are your top spots to get caffeinated?

Coffee is life! Seed & Stone on Pirie Street is my first stop before work. Otherwise, Local Crowd at Colonel Light Gardens is always a fave.

Where’s your favourite date night spot with hubby?

Date nights are rare with a toddler, but we’ll head to a winery on a special occasion. Main & Cherry at Chandlers Hill is one of our favourites. The view is spectacular and their wines are divine!

Where’s your favourite holiday destination in SA?

I love the Fleurieu Peninsula, especially Second Valley, where I spent most of my childhood weekends. There are some great places to eat, walk and explore in that region. Forktree Brewing is a fantastic spot for lunch!

Is there anything on your SA bucket list that you haven’t done yet?

I’ve been lucky to visit so many incredible places around SA for work, but I haven’t spent much time on the Yorke Peninsula. I’d love to explore Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park because, from what I’ve heard, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking.

Thanks for spilling the beans and allowing us to get to know you, Chelsea. We hope the spilt beans weren’t coffee!

Bigger than Broadway

Scotch College Adelaide is setting students up to receive a standing ovation on stage… and in life.

By taking school theatre to the next level through its large-scale productions, the college is providing students with abundant opportunities for skill development and personal growth. The theatre experience at Scotch gives kids a chance to explore different aspects of themselves in a safe and nurturing environment, fostering not only their artistic growth, but also invaluable personal development. Beyond the stage, students gain confidence in both their verbal and physical interactions, setting them up for success in the future.

Here’s what sets Scotch College’s Theatre Program apart from the rest:

Community

The college has strong community connections that elevate the theatre experience for its students. Head of Theatre Arts, Nicola Triglau, was the former drama teacher of Emmy and two-time Golden Globe winner, Sarah Snook. Best known for her role in the hit television series “Succession”, Sarah still expresses gratitude for her time at Scotch and the skills she developed under Nicola’s guidance. Nicola, who remains in touch with Sarah, hopes her success story inspires others. “Whatever career path young people choose, drama enriches lives. That’s the whole reason I became a teacher,’’ she explains.

This year, Scotch College was thrilled to announce that its production of “School of Rock” would be held at the historic Queen’s Theatre. Past students (and current parents), Torben and Richelle Brookman, are the custodians and co-directors of this iconic venue, which is renowned as Australia’s oldest mainland theatre.

“It was a joy to welcome Scotch to the Queen’s Theatre and share this incredible venue with the next generation of aspiring performers. The Queen’s is one of Adelaide’s hidden treasures and we welcomed the opportunity to share it with the Scotch community,” say Torben and Richelle.

Top quality theatre

Torben and Richelle produced the professional Australian premiere of “School of Rock”, which toured both nationally and internationally. They also

THE ENRICHMENT AND PERSONAL GROWTH GAINED FROM THE EXPERIENCE WILL EXTEND FAR BEYOND THE FINAL CURTAIN CALL.

generously lent Scotch’s production team their original touring props, sets, costumes and instruments.

“This invaluable access to professional theatre elements not only enhanced our production, but also added an extra layer of excitement and professionalism for our students. We wouldn’t have that without the connections to our Scotch community and past students, Torben and Richelle,” says Nicola.

More than a performance — a way of life

The Scotch College theatre program welcomes students from Years 7–12, encouraging children of varying ages to perform together and gain skills that go beyond the stage. “This inclusive approach allows us to select material suitable for various age groups, while also fostering mentorship with older students guiding and supporting their younger peers. It’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone to learn, grow and shine on stage together,” explains Nicola.

Students involved in a Scotch College production can participate in multiple aspects of the performance. Besides the obvious roles of acting, dancing and singing, there are backstage positions available, including lighting, sound and AV operation, props, set and costume design, as well as front-of-house responsibilities. This wide range of opportunities allows students to explore different facets of theatre production and develop a diverse set of skills.

For students participating in a Scotch College theatre production, the enrichment and personal growth gained from the experience will extend far beyond the final curtain call. To that we say, ‘encore!’

Sleep secrets

WORDS Millie Looker

A good night’s sleep might not solve all of life’s problems… but it definitely helps!

Sleep: it has the power to make or break us. You take it for granted when you’re getting a full eight hours every night, but start to crumble when your REM sleep is lacking. Absolutely no one has time for mood shifts or a fuzzy mind… but that’s how some people are going through their days, daydreaming about when their heads will hit that glorious pillow — only to be faced with yet another night of broken sleep.

Our friends at Star Discount Chemist are able to offer advice and solutions to support your sleep. Their friendly pharmacists will do their best to help you get back on the dream train!

Because it’s such a widespread issue, we asked Phoebe from Star Discount Chemist Firle for her top tips on solving your sleep situations:

What are some of the most common issues people face with their sleep?

Sleep is a crucial component of our overall health. Some of the troubles that people are faced with include insomnia (difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep), sleep deprivation (not getting enough sleep regularly), sleep disorders (like sleep apnoea or restless leg syndrome) and irregular sleep-wake cycles (inconsistent patterns of sleeping and waking).

What issues can arise if you have a lack of sleep?

Besides an overall feeling of exhaustion, not getting enough sleep can lead to impaired cognitive function and memory issues, a weakened immune system, increased risk of chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes, and mood swings and irritability. All things we want to avoid!

How much sleep should the average person be having every night?

Generally, we recommend that adults get between seven and nine hours per night. It varies more in children of different ages — for example, preschoolers need 10–13 hours in a 24-hour period (including naps), and teens are recommended to get 8–10 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period.

What are some more natural ways to treat insomnia?

Try establishing a consistent bedtime routine and sleep schedule, complete with activities that help you wind down. We also recommend that you limit your screen time right before bed to avoid blue light interference, exercise regularly (but not too close

to bedtime) and set yourself up in a room that’s dark, quiet and cool, with no distractions like a TV.

You can also spend some time on mindfulness techniques such as yoga or meditation, or try switching out caffeine and alcohol for herbal remedies like chamomile tea.

What products do you recommend to assist people with their sleep?

The biggie is that your mattress and pillows are supportive and comfortable. You use these every day and they play a significant role in your sleep — so it’s worth investing in high quality. White noise machines and sleep trackers to help monitor your sleep patterns are also good tools for excellent sleep.

What is sleep apnoea and how is it treated?

Sleep apnoea is a condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep due to blocked airways. Symptoms include loud snoring, gasping for air and daytime sleepiness.

The CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine is an excellent way to combat sleep apnoea, as it aids in keeping your airways open. Other simple changes you can make include weight loss, avoiding alcohol and quitting smoking. For severe cases, surgery can be recommended by your doctor.

Sleep Apnoea services are available at Star Discount Chemist Firle and Sturt Street, Mount Gambier.

If you’re reading this article with droopy eyelids, pop in and see your local pharmacist at Star Discount Chemist for further information and advice on getting a good night’s rest. And remember: quality sleep isn’t a luxury, but a necessity for a healthy life.

Pineapple paradise

WORDS Hayley Pearson

Whether you have two left feet or are a dancing pro, Choo la la welcomes you with open arms… and a shimmy!

Thousands of people are reclaiming their confidence, rediscovering their beauty and, most importantly, having the time of their lives.

So, who are these people? They’re Choos!

Choo la la isn’t just any burlesque fusion dance studio — it’s an amazing community where people of all shapes, sizes, ages and backgrounds come together to celebrate their uniqueness. And it all started right here in Adelaide!

“Every woman deserves to feel sexy, confident and cherished — just the way she is. Our classes are designed to help

you reconnect with your body, boost your confidence and feel empowered again,” says Choo la la Founder Mel Cherrett.

And with that, we twerked into our first class and joined the Pineapple Paradise Block! Over 12 weeks and with plenty of laughs, we managed to learn (and remember) multiple dances and unleash our inner cheeky superstar.

“I was so unbelievably nervous before our first class, but weirdly, the second we walked in, we were literally embraced by everyone,” smiles Lauren.

Our Pineapple Paradise journey uncovered so many profound transformations, with so many stories behind the smiles on stage: I hated my body after kids... I haven’t felt sexy in decades... I lost 50 kilos and wanted to see if I could dance again... I was too socially anxious to go to work...

These are just some of the stories we uncovered.

And collectively, after being part of the Choo la la community, these people were changed with a feeling of, “If I can dance on stage in a bra and a tutu, I can do anything!”

And they were bloody right. As the lights came on, we danced out onto the stage at Woodville Town Hall. Dressed as burlesque pineapples, we let go of any worries and insecurities and we felt like absolute superstars! The exhilaration was incredible and I now know why these people love it so much.

Choo la la is all about body positivity and self-love. And with over 45 locations Australia-wide, this group of dancers isn’t just a community… it’s a legitimate movement!

With crops in the Riverland, Mallee and Virginia, Mitolo Family Farms is Australia's largest potato grower. Or in other words, they know how important potatoes are to Aussies and that’s why they’ve made

shopping easier for us all with their three different varieties, so you can nail your ‘tatos every single time!

The Mitolo Family Farms range features three epic potato varieties, naturally produced and completely free from genetic modification (as are all their products). The Low Carb variety has 25 percent less carbs than the average potato and the skin is thin, so it can be left on, cutting down prep time. It’s a perfect, super tasty all-rounder, great for salads, mash and guilt-free roasting! Their Chipping Potatoes are best for chips, wedges or as a side to your Sunday roast. With a higher starch content, they get nice and crispy on the outside while still staying soft and fluffy on the inside! And finally, their Mashing Potatoes will give you the creamiest

mash every single time due to the lower starch content — and are also excellent for the home chefs out there who are keen to perfect gnocchi.

Here are three classic potato dishes... with a spin. Enjoy!

Taralli 10 ways

WORDS Carrie Raymond

PHOTO Naomi Giatas

You’ve seen them on the supermarket shelves, but what do you actually do with a taralli?

For over 50 years, Continental Taralli Biscuits has been hand-crafting delicious crackers and biscuits for thousands of households throughout Australia to enjoy!

After migrating to South Australia in the 1960s from his small town in Southern Italy, a nostalgic John Viscione began baking bread and taralli for his friends and local community. Using a handmade wood oven, he used the techniques and recipes passed down to him by his own father. Before long, people’s appetite for John’s taralli had spread far and wide.

Fast forward to today, Continental Taralli Biscuits’ vast range is stocked all over Australia! While their production has increased significantly, they pride themselves on staying true to their traditions and never compromising on quality.

Their biscuits are baked (not fried) and contain no artificial colours, flavours, preservatives, additives, animal fats, palm oil or genetically modified ingredients. Basically, you can enjoy every bite without the guilt! They source their olive oil from Limestone Coast, wine from Sellicks Hill and flour from Strathalbyn. We love that!

With John now in his 80s, his daughter Sonia has taken the helm in the business. Not only passionate about keeping these traditional recipes alive, the Viscione family also wants you to know just how versatile these delicious little Italian delights are!

Whether jazzing up a cheese platter, adding a gourmet ‘crunch’ to a salad or soup, or creating impressive individual canapés, Continental Taralli Biscuits are here to help you elevate your snacking game and expand your creativity in the kitchen!

Here’s how the Viscione family enjoys their taralli…

1. Top a Garlic & Black Pepper Tarallini with cream cheese, smoked salmon and chives for a delicious canapé.

2. Layer rockmelon and prosciutto on an Olive Oil & Sea Salt Taralli for an impressive canapé.

3. To a skewer, add bocconcini cheese, basil, Kalamata Olive & Thyme Tarallini, cherry tomato and cured meat of choice.

4. Add Olive Oil & Fennel Seed Tarallini to soup before serving for a crouton-style crunch.

5. Crush Hot Chilli & Fennel Seed Tarallini on top of pasta for extra crunch.

6. Make a festive wreath salad by laying out rocket and topping with bocconcini cheese, cherry tomatoes and Sundried Tomato & Basil Tarallini. Season and drizzle with olive oil and balsamic glaze.

7. Serve your affogato with an Espresso Coffee & Wattleseed Biscottini.

8. Create a dessert platter with Creamy Vanilla & Chai Seed Biscottini, fresh fruit, nuts, marshmallows and sweet dips.

9. Add interest to your grazing board by adding various flavours of Taralli and Tarallini.

10. To create a savoury cheesecake:

• Crush 125g Olive Oil & Fennel Seed Tarallini in a blender with 1 cup of raw almonds and 60g sundried tomatoes, then add 130g of melted unsalted butter. Mix to combine.

• Transfer the Tarallini mixture to a 20cm cake mould and compact until a uniform layer is obtained (about 1cm thick). Transfer to the fridge for 30 minutes.

• Combine 1kg ricotta cheese, 250g cream cheese, chopped basil and black pepper in a bowl, before spreading over the Tarallini base. Refrigerate to set, then garnish with olives and prosciutto. Enjoy!

Resilience, community spirit and delicious pizza!

It’s these words that spring to mind when we think of Adelaide’s own DoughBalls, the Pizza Place. When DoughBalls swung open its doors in gorgeous Glenelg for the first time in February 2020, there was excitement in the air — and of course intrigue, because what the hell was a ‘Dough Ball’?

Back to the beginning

Cat Devlin and her beautiful little family had the genius idea to deliver pizza, with a twist to families all over SA. In case you didn’t know… DoughBalls are delicious, twice-proved balls of pizza dough, cooked in the oven and then served warm with either sweet or savoury toppings.

Driven by a love for food and a desire to bring people together, Cat and her hubby, Lincoln, created a fun, welcoming space in Moseley Square where everyone could walk in off the beach and enjoy their delicious dough-based creations.

Don’t mention the C-word

Just two months after opening their doors, the COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill, with the restaurant industry being one of the hardest hit.

The initial lockdowns created uncertainty and fear, but the DoughBalls team refused to be disheartened and they adapted quickly, shifting their focus to takeaway and delivery services.

The local community rallied around them, placing orders and spreading the word. Despite the challenges, they managed to keep their doors open, providing a sense of comfort through pizzas, salads and the unique DoughBalls menu.

Light at the end of the tunnel

As the pandemic eased, Cat saw an opportunity for growth and decided to expand to Mawson Lakes. The timing seemed perfect, but fate had other plans. Just as they were getting ready to welcome new customers, another wave of COVID hit and Cat found out she was expecting baby number two! When it rains, it pours — right? With the excitement of their little ball in the oven, they also faced the daunting task of navigating restrictions and uncertainties.

Photo: Wayne Pearson.
Photo: Wayne Pearson.
“WE JUST WANT TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE, COMFORTABLE AND LUXURIOUS DINING THAT’S ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE.”

But Cat, being the super woman that she is, continued to innovate. She introduced new menu items, built a loyal community on social media and created a pop-up DoughBalls van to take to events and locations all over SA.

Onwards and upwards

With Mawson Lakes closing due to COVID, Cat and Lincoln took up an opportunity they couldn’t refuse with an upmarket (or as we at Adelady say, ‘fancy’) version of DoughBalls in Rundle Place, next door to the brand-new Funlab.

“We want to provide affordable, comfortable and luxurious dining that’s accessible to everyone — Rundle Place has given us the opportunity to really deliver on this,” says Cat.

And their newest baby at Fort Largs has Cat and Lincoln’s family jumping out of their skin!

“The Fort Largs development is going to change the shape of Adelaide’s coastline, with awesome eateries, markets and free parking — you can take your DoughBalls to the beach!”

All for the love of DoughBalls

Every new opening is a tribute to the community that has supported Cat and her DoughBalls family through thick and thin, and we reckon the human element of their biz is what truly sets them apart from other pizza joints.

As they continue to expand, the heart of DoughBalls remains the same: a place where every meal is made with love and every customer is treated like family.

We’re so proud of you, Cat!

Two passions in one light-filled space.

Welcome to Living Jute and Half Cup — a place where a special kind of sustainable shopping meets caffeinated bliss in Cowandilla.

Living Jute

Owner and founder Rashed Kabir is living his dream, after kicking off Living Jute in 2021, to serve up sustainable accessories and home goods. Its mission isn’t just about selling cool stuff; it’s about

providing work back to Rashed’s home of Bangladesh, where they’ve got their very own factory.

“I wanted to find a way to offer something back to Bangladesh and to my new home in South Australia at the same time. I also wanted to create that connection between the creator and the buyer. Our factory can create custom pieces, sharing updates with our customers via WhatsApp and Skype during the process,” says Rashed.

If you haven’t heard of jute before, it’s a versatile and eco-friendly natural fibre that can be woven in different ways to create beautiful products. On top of their

jute products, they also produce both vegan and natural leather, incorporating these materials into their unique designs.

Need a plant hanger that screams, “I belong in your home”? Or a laptop bag that’s as stylish as it is functional? Perhaps a custom rug that matches your living room? Living Jute’s got you covered with their in-house creations that range from beautiful tableware and gift baskets, through to customised bags printed with your company’s logo — they can make between 100 to 1000 within just four weeks! Just head instore to see Rashed about placing your custom order.

Half Cup

One business was simply not enough for Rashed, who also has experience in the hospitality industry. He made space for another passion project and Half Cup was born — serving up takeaway coffee for those on the go, or dine-in options with plates of food that are as beautiful as they are delicious!

The cafe offers a menu created by Rashed and his head chef (and beloved wife) Samima Akther that changes every four months, ensuring you’ll always have something new to try. Local ingredients and seasonal

“I WANTED IT TO BE 50 PERCENT ABOUT THE FOOD AND DRINKS THAT WE SERVE, AND 50 PERCENT ABOUT GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.”

produce shine on their menu, with exotic spices that come from one of Rashed’s friend’s secret recipes back home.

Some crowd pleasers include the Coconut and Crab served on top of a buttery croissant; the Avocado and Ricotta Waffles; and the Loaded Chicken Burger, complete with slabs of pineapple.

For those with a sweet tooth, the star of the show is Samima’s phenomenal baking skills! If you haven’t tried her homemade goodies, you’re missing out on a slice of heaven.

Half Cup got its name from Rashed’s very clear vision, “I always knew that when I opened this cafe, I wanted it to be 50 percent about the food and drinks that we serve, and 50 percent about giving back to the community, offering them a space that feels welcoming and valuable.”

This drive to include the community wherever possible is evident in the ‘pay it forward wall’, where people in need can enjoy a pre-paid meal, as well as classes — knitting, art and more. These classes, funded by cafe patrons, are run in collaboration with the West Torrens Council and are open to all to enjoy. Just keep an eye on the Half Cup social media pages to see what’s coming up soon.

It doesn’t matter if you’re there for the plant hangers or the lattes, you’ll always leave with a smile, knowing that you’ve supported a business that’s making a difference both locally and globally. Open Tuesday–Sunday, 6:30am–2pm.

The heart of the Port

WORDS James Worthington

PHOTOS Jon Wah

For 154 years, this family-owned business has been part of the fabric of Port Adelaide.

In 1870, the soon-to-be-elected Mayor, David Bower, built what’s known as the “Bower Buildings.” And smack-bang in the middle of all the shopfronts on Saint Vincent Street lies Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie, which has grown to become SA’s longest-running bakery and continues to run as a family-owned business success story today.

The previous owner ran it for 57 years, until he retired well into his 80s and sold it to the Donnelly family. And for those 57 years, he got his hands in the flour, baking every day as his father did before him… and the way Phil Donnelly does today.

“YOU CAN GET A KRANSKY, A SURFBOARD AND A WETSUIT ALL IN THE SAME STORE!”

But running a bakery isn’t a piece of cake — it’s early starts and long days. To own a bit of the Port at the ripe old age of 21 was a dream for Phil and he never took that for granted. He certainly wasn’t going to sit and watch the flour grow! “I was down here all day and all night; I became part of the local community.”

Phil’s business thrives in the Port Adelaide community, but it also thrives because of the Port Adelaide community, too.

“We’re far more engaged with the local community than a lot of other bakeries. We also get international visitors who have heard about our gluten-free cheesecakes overseas. When they step off the cruise ships, the first place they visit is Mayfair.”

But Phil had no idea how big his bakery could go! From the original owners baking Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday cake in 1974, to Phil being asked to cater for US Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and at the time, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Mayfair has always remained humble and true to his vision.

And their roaring success in wholesale food service means Mayfair products are now all over South Australia — the Barossa, Hawker, Wallaroo, Middleton, Broken Hill; in bakeries, IGA supermarkets and general stores, and even in the Adelaide Art Gallery. “We’re not just a small shop in Port Adelaide that’s been here for over 150 years, we’re everywhere!” And in one iconic coastal location, “You can get a kransky, a surfboard and a wetsuit all in the same store!”

After 12 years building up the wholesale side of his business, Phil decided it was time to introduce this local favourite to the rest of the state… and Australia.

“We sat down with CSIRO and Food SA and asked them if what we were selling wholesale — 28 tonnes of cream cheese, which made up 450,000 cheesecakes a year — was a lot. The overwhelming feedback was that it was indeed a LOT and we should have our Mayfair Bakery products in supermarkets!”

Today, in addition to their original historic site at the Port, Mayfair has a designated gluten-free production facility to ensure their most loved product, the gluten-free baked cheesecake, is readily available in family-sized and individual

packs at Tony & Mark’s, Foodland SA and other independent retailers right around South Australia.

Phil is amazed by how many people come to the original Mayfair site at the Port and they recognise the products they’ve enjoyed in other South Australian businesses. “We don’t need our name on it for people to know our products. Our products are unique — so evidently Mayfair!”

Five reasons to Eatwell

WORDS Millie Looker

PHOTOS Naomi Giatas

Fact: life is busy. So, give yourself a break.

Eatwell by Kitchenhand is SA’s answer to the craziness of life. In a time when everyone is juggling a million different things all at once, it’s nice to know that you can cross one item off your to-do list — cooking.

Locally owned and operated for almost 30 years by two passionate women, Tina Germanos and Leanne Cittadini, Eatwell by Kitchenhand is all about healthy, nutritious and convenient meals that your whole family will love.

Here are five reasons why Eatwell deserves a spot in your weekly dinner line-up:

1. Easy-peasy

Picture this: you've had a crazy day, you're exhausted and the last thing you want to do is cook. Open the fridge and you see Eatwell's heat-and-eat family meals. They're a lifesaver. Just pop them in the microwave or oven and voila! Dinner is served. No stress, no fuss, and no mess — just wholesome goodness ready when you need it. If you’ve got a night to yourself, you can also choose from one of their convenient singleserve meals, available in over 100 locations across SA!

2. Made with love (and nutrition)

Eatwell isn't just about convenience; it's about nourishing your body with only the good stuff — that means no nasties and no numbers, only natural ingredients. Each meal is handmade from scratch, designed to fuel your body and get you through a busy day!

Whether you're craving a fresh salad, a comforting pasta dish, or just a quick snack, Eatwell has you covered with over 60 meal options to choose from. Their Mushroom and Hazelnut Risotto is one of our favourites and it was recently recognised as a finalist in the Best Food Product category at the 2024 Naturally Good Awards.

Plus, 95 percent of their menu is gluten-free, with plenty of options that are dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian, lowcalorie and high-protein choices, too.

NO STRESS, NO FUSS, AND NO MESS — JUST WHOLESOME GOODNESS READY WHEN YOU NEED IT.

3. It’s local, baby!

Eatwell proudly supports local SA growers and producers and only uses natural ingredients to ensure your meals are fresh, wholesome and packed with flavour! While we’re sleeping, the Eatwell team is up during the early hours of the morning, at the South Australian Produce Market, meeting with growers and selecting the freshest local produce to cook with. Plus, they work with so many other amazing SA food businesses — their pasta and lasagna dishes are made using San Remo products!

4. Cha-ching

When was the last time you got home, flopped on the couch and thought, “There’s no way I’m slaving over the stove tonight”, before promptly opening your takeaway food apps? We’ve all been there! But here’s the good news: you can feed your family for less with Eatwell. And it’s so much healthier than takeaway! There are so many affordable choices on offer: pasta, risotto, tarts, salads, stews, meatballs and more, so you can enjoy something different every night of the week!

5. Knock, knock! Who’s there?

Eatwell delivers freshly-made (and never frozen) meals straight to your doorstep, right across South Australia. Simply order by Sunday 9pm and it will be delivered to either your home or your office (whatever floats your boat) that week. Or, if you prefer, place an order online for click and collect, and just swing by their factory in Keswick to pick up your meals directly. They’re open from Monday to Friday from 7am.

Treat yourself and your family to Eatwell — because food should always be this easy! Use code ADELADY15 on your next online order over $50 for 15 percent off.

There’s so much more to this cafe than meets the eye...

1947 Coffee Co. is a vibrant community hub that’s quickly become a local favourite since opening its doors in October 2023.

Located in a bright, light and airy building in the outskirts of Clearview, 1947 Coffee Co. is a beautiful space for casual coffee catch-ups, right through to peaceful moments of reflection and large-scale events.

But how do they do it all? Read on…

Eat your heart out

Whether you're stopping by for a morning pick-me-up, a leisurely brunch or a late lunch, 1947 Coffee Co. promises a menu filled with seasonal and locally sourced delights. Head Chef Daniel Wilhelm is a master in the kitchen, starting many dishes as vegan and offering gluten-free options, too.

All of their dishes pass the taste test with flying colours. We especially loved his banana bread, tom yum fried rice and his much-loved avo on toast (with a twist)!

And while this venue is chic and modern, their motto is “come one, come all!” — including the littlies! Parents can enjoy their brekky in peace, while the children make the most of the speciality kids’ menu and nature play space just outside.

Beyond the food, feel free to sip on a cuppa or choose something a little stronger. 1947 Coffee Co. also serves up cocktails, wine and beer, as well as some specialty concoctions, like the warming immunity tea.

For those on the move, the entire menu can be packaged to take with you, or there's a selection of grab-and-go wraps, sweets and bags of coffee beans to take home. They also have the florist corner, Grace & Thorn, where you can pick up blooms, candles and gifts.

Earth comes first

One of the things that shines through everything that 1947 Coffee Co. creates is their dedication to sustainability. You’ll find rice paper straws, compostable takeaway packaging and even Fleurieu Milk on tap for the community to top up their refillable bottles.

These sustainable practises trickle down to their food menu, with the team repurposing extra produce in new and inventive ways. “We use coffee grounds to make a delicious coffee syrup, the ends of the bread loaves to make our decadent twice-baked French toast and we even create our own ricotta from leftover milk. I’m always searching for ways to minimise our waste,” says Daniel.

THEIR MOTTO IS “COME ONE, COME ALL!”

From big to small

1947 Coffee Co. also happens to be attached to a beautiful function space that can be configured to hold up to 500 people. And if you book an event in these rooms overlooking Adelaide’s northern lights, you’ll receive the benefit of Evergreen catering your event too! Situated adjacent to Enfield Memorial Park, the cafe and event space enjoy natural light and a serene vibe, making it the perfect venue for all kinds of occasions. Simply contact the team through the website to find out more or to book in a time to see the space.

Whether you're searching for a great coffee, a hearty meal or a place to unwind after visiting loved ones, this cafe has something special to offer everyone. Open from 8am–3.30pm on weekdays and 9am–2pm on Saturdays and Sundays, it’s no surprise 1947 Coffee Co. has become a much loved part of the Clearview community in such a short time.

EATS PICKLE IN THE CITY

EXCELLENT COFFEE AND CHAI, ZINGY JUICES, AS WELL AS A WHOLE NEW MENU FOR BREKKY AND LUNCH.

Pickle’s new place

WORDS Millie Looker

This much-loved Unley cafe has a second home in the city.

You’d probably recognise Pickle in the Middle’s sunshine yellow frontage on Unley Road, where they serve up coffee and deliciously fresh brunch and lunch for all to enjoy. And now, one of the best cafes of all time (in our humble opinions) has a second home in Festival Tower, part of the brandspanking Festival Theatre precinct.

Pickle in the City is open five days a week, bringing the people what they want — excellent coffee and chai, zingy juices, as well as a whole new menu for brekky and lunch. They also offer plenty of grab-and-go options available for people on the go!

As you walk in the doors, you’ll be struck by the impressive artwork by Zaachariaha Fielding, the true feature of the room. When you scan your eyes around a little further, you’ll discover a broad service counter and seating for 60 people to dine in.

Pickle in the City is the latest project from husband and wife owners Luke and Carli Halloran, who bring their excellent offerings into this chic new space. While they’re officially opening in February 2025, they’ve temporarily opened the space to offer their famously great coffee and a selection of food as well.

“We always agreed that we would only open another location if it was the ideal fit. We’ve finally found the perfect space for our second venture — it’s a stunning building with high foot traffic and few nearby competitors. Plus it’s conveniently located next to the train station and near the riverbank precinct,” says Luke.

If you’re based in the city or surrounding burbs, it’s good to know that Pickle in the City now also offers catering, so you can impress your guests or colleagues with a truly mouth-watering spread.

There’s no such thing as too many pickles — proven by SA’s excitement at another Pickle popping up in the heart of our city.

Purely Pluto

In the world of premium spirits, Pluto Spirits is raising the bar.

The Fleurieu Peninsula has a new distiller on the loose, creating exceptional products made entirely from scratch — every single drop!

Pluto Spirits does things a bit differently from other distillers, by crafting each element of their gin, vodka and rum products, including the alcohol, granting full control over the quality and making these products proudly organic.

The idea has been floating between two friends for over a decade. Now, Head Distiller Jack Nisbet and Managing Director Graham Holmberg are on a mission to make spirits that are as exceptional as they are accessible.

“We love and respect our customers, and we want everyone to be able to access high quality spirits. Our products are to be consumed, not just put on a shelf and looked at,” says Graham.

PLUTO SPIRITS IS THERE TO MAKE EVERY MOMENT A LITTLE MORE SPECIAL.

If your only encounter with rum so far has been in a piña colada, get ready to be introduced to your new fave drink! Pluto Spirits Rum, aged patiently in oak, is a blend of complex flavours. For those dipping their toes into the world of rum, their Organic Spiced Rum with hints of house-made caramel, vanilla and cinnamon, is a tasty way to start.

If you’re not quite rum-ready, then Pluto’s Vodka and Gin could be the way to go — these products have been racking up the awards in the single year they’ve been operating, with the latest being Double Gold for their vodka at the Singapore World Spirits Competition 2024. Clearly, they’re doing something right!

“Our friends have often said, ‘Oh, I don’t drink vodka’. Then they try our vodka and suddenly say, ‘Oh… maybe I do!” says Graham.

You’ll find these gorgeous bottles online at Dan Murphy’s, or you can shop directly on the Pluto Spirits website. Whether you’re celebrating the weekend, a Tuesday night, or just making dinner feel fancy, Pluto Spirits is there to make every moment a little more special!

A taste of Three Valleys

Find someone who looks at you the way the team at Three Valleys looks at their gin!
WORDS Carrie Raymond PHOTOS Naomi Giatas

Aptly named to pay homage to its location, Three Valleys Gin is inspired by the flavours of the Clare, Gilbert and Barossa Valleys in the charming town of Riverton. With the purpose of bringing people together and celebrating the feeling of being ‘home’, Three Valleys crafts its gins with the utmost care and consideration to ensure it reflects the rich history and vibrancy of the region.

Extremely passionate about helping people understand and appreciate the complexities of their gins, the team at Three Valleys has just opened a brandnew distillery door. Here, they take great pride in guiding you through a tasting of their range — each bottle decorated with paintings from South Australian Artist Liza Merkalova.

“We approach gin making from a winemaking perspective,” explains Chief Operating Officer Peter Bampton. “Just like wine, we want our gin to be able to stand by itself and to be enjoyed neat. We don’t want our gins to have a harsh spirit edge that needs tonic to cover it — we want smoothness and lasting flavour.”

To whet your whistle, here’s a snippet of what Three Valleys has in store for you…

Watervale Gin

This multi-award-winning gin has a uniquely crisp and delicate palate that evokes memories of warm summer days. The Watervale Gin has citrus and tropical notes and is beautiful on its own, but also pairs well with Mediterranean tonic.

NEW DISTILLERY DOOR

Three Valley Gins welcomes you to their new distillery door and gallery. Enjoy fine gin, art exhibitions, tasting paddles, nibbles and plates. Congregate around their combustion wood fire and fall in love with the beautiful, undiscovered town of Riverton.

Eden Gin

The Eden Gin is the ‘winter cousin’ to the Watervale Gin and was inspired by the luscious, full-bodied rieslings of the Eden Valley. With hints of spice, orange and honey, this gin is very smooth on the palate and makes the perfect base for a Negroni cocktail.

Assassin Gin

With its name inspired by Australia’s first political assassination in 1921, the Assassin Gin has a savoury and herbal profile that is based around olives and designed to drink either neat, with an aromatic tonic, or in a dry martini.

Festivus Gin

This gin was inspired by festive flavours, but is too good to save just for Christmas! Described as ‘plum pudding in a bottle’, Festivus Gin can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or mixed with ginger ale to elevate its ginger notes.

Gilbert Barrel Aged Gin

Named after the Gilbert Valley, this gin is aged in American oak barrels, similar to those used to make a fine bourbon. Fun fact: it’s the contact with the oak that gives this gin its amber colour. Notes of vanilla, butterscotch and honey, and with a finish of chocolate, make this a perfect drink to be enjoyed on the rocks.

Gin and Quandong Soda

This refreshing blend of Three Valley’s Eden Gin and Flinders Food Co.’s Quandong Soda is a super-convenient way to drink this award-winning gin. Best served in a glass with ice, a slice of fresh strawberry and a wedge of lime. Prepare for a party in your mouth!

With a range this mouth-watering, it’d be a crime not to sample them all. The only problem — where to beGIN?!

Building relationships

WORDS James Worthington

PHOTOS Jodi Nash

You won’t find another building company like the award-winning Klemm Homes.

It’s not just the spectacular homes they’re known for delivering; it’s the way Carmel and Troy Klemm make each customer feel like family along the way. When you meet them, you quickly realise their unmatched passion for delivering high-end homes that reflect the future needs of the family soon-to-be living in it. “We’re not like other big builders out there. It’s very personalised; a very different process from what people are used to,” says Troy.

Understanding your needs

You meet at Carmel and Troy’s house on day one. It’s a big deal to invite strangers into their sacred space — a gesture of trust. It’s Carmel and Troy’s family home,

but it’s also the most authentic way to demonstrate what they can do for their clients. They’re living and breathing what they promote by showing each client what works for them and their kids Sienna (6), Jonty (17) and Nash (18).

A guided tour of their own home demonstrates the latest in contemporary Australian home designs and how they went about building it. Carmel and Troy’s home is stunning and they have the HIA Building Awards and the Residential Master Builder of the Year Award 2023 to prove it!

“It starts with Carmel taking a brief for how each client wants to live, including a wish list with mud rooms, doggy doors, wine rooms… everything a family needs is documented at this point,” says Troy. From there, Klemm’s designer captures their vision on paper.

The best builders communicate so you know what to expect and when to expect it. The Klemm Homes team maintains strong relationships with the best trades and suppliers to ensure every project stays on track.

Building relationships

“The Lottery Home we built in Hyde Park is a great example of the feedback we get on the quality of our builds. People noticed the little things that others don’t do. It’s those finishing touches that make our homes stand out,” says Troy. Integrity is a core principle of the way all Klemm Homes staff work and the foundation of every home they bring to life. Whether it’s caulking around windows and joinery, densifying and waterproofing concrete slabs, or sourcing timber studs that are dead straight. “A flat slab and a straight frame set the foundations for all our builds. We work with Adelaide’s best trades,” says Troy.

Carmel and Troy know a client’s experience is largely determined by the relationship with their builder, so open lines of communication are critical to the way they work. “We have an open book for all of our selections — tiles, joinery, flooring, appliances and sanitaryware,” says Carmel. “Whatever the invoice is from the supplier, that’s what you pay. Our clients love the transparency!”

Homes built to last Carmel and Troy recommend investing in fixtures for longevity. “We’re seeing lots of underfloor heating and solar with people wanting to be more sustainable. We incorporate passive building principles into our homes — energy-efficient light and airflow solutions such as crossventilation, vented air cavities and hopper windows to move hot air out of the house without the need to turn the air conditioning on. We did it on our house and it works really well,” says Troy.

“If you spoke to us three years ago, we never would put two studies in the home. Now our clients want one for the kids and one for the adults, or people work part of their week from home,” he continues. Today, data connectivity is

“WE’RE NOT LIKE OTHER BIG BUILDERS OUT THERE. IT’S VERY PERSONALISED; A VERY DIFFERENT PROCESS FROM WHAT PEOPLE ARE USED TO.”

essential. He says, “People used to worry about the cost of home automation, but we use Clipsal Wiser™, which is only a few thousand dollars. It automates the lights and then you can keep adding to it in the future”.

Forever homes

Klemm Homes are designed with flexibility in mind. “When you’re building your dream home, try to consider that just because your kids are two and three years old now, they won’t need to be next door to you when they’re 13,” says Carmel. Dream homes can change over time, so it’s important to future-proof it in the design.

“When kids are younger, they kick balls around in the backyard. But once they’re older, they’re training at the club a few

times a week and no longer need it in the same way. It’s all about useable spaces,” says Troy.

Dream homes

Building your forever home is one of the biggest financial commitments of your life, so Carmel and Troy recommend finding a builder who understands your vision and who welcomes your phone call at any time. Carmel says, “Don’t assume anything. If you don’t understand, ask!” Klemm Homes is changing the way people approach the once daunting process of building. “And at handover, you don’t need another bottle of champagne — we do something really special! We finish each build with Chef Will Doak from Lost Phoenix Farm

Restaurant, who cooks in their new kitchen,” says Carmel. “He shows them how it should be used and our clients love the fact they don’t have to do anything but enjoy their new home,” says Troy.

This award-winning business is changing what it means to build a home. The Klemm Homes team is driven by a genuine desire to make your biggest dream a reality and the best place to start is a chat with Carmel and Troy — a unique team of interior designer and builder, there to answer all of your questions.

Get your style on!

For the best event styling tips, go straight to the source.

It’s no secret that the Adelady team loves a good party and these days, we wouldn’t dream of planning an event without Louise Antoniadis, owner of Style Nest.

With an eye for detail, a flair for creativity and the courage to always think outside of the box, Louise will take the look and feel of your wedding or function to the next level.

Meet Adelady’s go-to event stylist. Over to you, Louise!

Tell us a little bit about your background in event styling...

With five years in events under my belt, my passion for creativity has always been my driving force. From stunning weddings and polished corporate events to intimate and grand parties, I’ve had the pleasure of styling it all.

What’s the one detail that should never be missed when event planning?

Effective event planning is like orchestrating a symphony, where creativity and logistics dance in perfect harmony. The secret ingredient is communication! It keeps everyone — clients, vendors and staff — in sync and working together to achieve a flawless outcome.

When planning an event concept, where do you start?

The best place to start is by diving into the client’s desires and vision. I dig deep into their personal tastes, goals and the vibe they’re aiming for. From there, I add my own creativity to the mix, bringing in fresh ideas.

Do you think it’s best to follow the trends or stick with timeless styling?

Trends add a current, exciting vibe, while timeless styling ensures lasting elegance and appeal. I say, why not enjoy the best of both worlds — the real magic lies in blending the two!

What’s your all-time favourite brief?

I love when clients are ready to break free from the ordinary and hand over full creative control. I thrive on the challenge of dreaming up impactful looks that are modern and deeply infused with the client’s personality. Bringing bold ideas to life and witnessing the final transformation is, without a doubt, the most exhilarating part.

Don’t settle for ordinary at your next soiree — contact Style Nest and watch Louise bring your vision to life.

A foundation of friendship

When a pipe dream becomes a reality.

Co-owners Tiffany Cazzolato and Emily Fels began Luna Belle Boutique to provide stylish, comfortable and affordable fashion to women of all shapes and sizes. The ultimate goal: to make you feel fabulous!

From besties to business owners

It all began when Emily went on the hunt for a new pair of jeans. At eight months postpartum, she walked into Just Jeans, tentatively, but was instantly put at ease by the warm and bubbly sales assistant, Tiffany. “We instantly hit it off,” explains Emily.

From this one encounter, the girls formed a wonderful friendship, often joking about opening their own boutique to fulfil their mutual love of fashion, but never thinking it could happen.

Fast forward a few months, Tiffany and Emily were coincidentally both out of work and decided to take the leap and pursue their vision. “It just felt like the right time for both of us,” describes Tiffany.

And so, Luna Belle Boutique was born!

Early days

What began as an online fashion boutique with ‘pop-up’ appearances at markets throughout Adelaide, quickly grew into a booming business. “In our early days, we took a risk and applied to attend the Adelady Christmas Village, hoping someone would take a chance on us. We were so grateful that the Adelady girls did!” explains Emily.

Strength to strength

After just six months of online trade and with their business growing rapidly,

“IT JUST FELT LIKE THE RIGHT TIME FOR BOTH OF US”

Tiffany and Emily decided to take the next big step and open their very first brickand-mortar store!

“We found the perfect space within Colour You Beautiful, a dress hire shop in Mount Barker. This site contains several women-run businesses, all supporting and encouraging each other.”

With a 8–18 size range on offer and catering to your casual, work and dressy wardrobe must-haves, the girls at Luna Belle Boutique are always up for a styling session to ensure you feel your best.

Their philosophy: to empower women to dress for themselves in a fun, affordable and inclusive way.

Having recently celebrated the store’s first birthday, it’s been a wild year for Tiffany and Emily. These fashionable powerhouses are now getting set for an even bigger and brighter future for Luna Belle Boutique. Go get ’em girls!

“We’re also big fans of matching,” Lauren laughs. “So it works for us that Carolina’s beautiful prints come in a range of styles. Hayley might wear the top and I might feel best in the dress, but we’re still matching with the beautiful patterns.”

Festive traditions run deep in South Australia…

There’s the Magic Cave, the famous National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant, the lighting of the biggest tree in the Southern Hemisphere at Victoria Square Tarntanyangga and then… there's a trip to Wohlers.

If you haven’t experienced the magic yet, Wohlers transforms into a Christmas wonderland every year and it’s nothing short of a miracle.

From colourful and elegant ornaments that add so much Chrissie sass to your tree, to charming figurines that bring the nativity story to life, their selection is actually unrivalled. In fact, I’ve never seen anything quite like it!

Whether you’re a fan of traditional red and green, prefer a modern twist with gold and silver, or, like us, you love the bright neons, Rachel Wohlers has a knack for picking decorations to suit every style and taste.

“It’s my favourite part of the job, selecting gorgeous decorations, beautiful Christmas trees and special pieces for our wonderful customers. I love seeing their excitement and smiles as they walk through our doors every year,” says Rachel.

Rachel, or “Mrs Christmas” as we call her, is also on the pulse of what’s trending this festive season. “The Grinch range has exciting new additions this year plus beautiful Christmas villages and light up lanterns for the whole family to enjoy.

Our Gingerbread range is so cute, and if you love colour we have so many gorgeous flowers and decorations to choose from.”

And it’s not just about the shopping. Popping into Wohlers at Christmas time is just as festive as taking the kids to see the West End Brewery Lights or to Carols in the Park. In fact, if the North Pole had a southern cousin, it would be Wohlers!

But there’s absolutely no need to head to the North Pole when you can enjoy all the Christmas magic in the comfort of Wohlers’ beautifully-decorated stores in Tanunda, Richmond, Mount Barker and now Victor Harbor.

Our car crush

If the Volvo EX30 was an Adelady, it would be that effortlessly-cool, eco-friendly friend who shows up to brunch looking fab and just happens to have a playlist for every mood!

She’s the kind of girl we all want to be besties with, so let’s get to know her… the sassy Volvo EX30.

Key to your heart (and car)

Forget fumbling for keys at the bottom of your bag, the EX30 lets you unlock using her very own app. And you can start her up by using a fancy credit card key — like you’re checking into a hotel. Not only that, you can also set the air conditioning to cool down your car before you even step in, because no one wants to sit on hot seats after a day at the beach!

Damn, girl

With five chic paint colours and four interior styles to choose from, the EX30 lets you express yourself like never before. And the best part? All of these luxe designs are made from recycled materials, so you can ride around in understated luxury while being kind to the planet.

Smarty pants

This car isn’t just smart, she’s a bloody genius! With a Google-based system, you can voice-command nearly everything. Maybe you want to warm up the steering wheel on a cold winter morning? Just say, “Hey Google, turn on my steering wheel heater”. Need some tunes while waiting for the car to charge? Download Spotify or YouTube straight from the App Store. If you’re like us and love a car concert, the Volvo EX30 can set the mood with different lighting themes, each with its own soundtrack.

Safety Sam

Volvo has always been synonymous with safety and the EX30 is no exception. She’s loaded with features like auto braking, blind spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera that gives you eyes in the back of your head! Plus, she’s got front traffic alerts that sense pedestrians in both directions and a door sensor that stops you from accidentally dooring a cyclist.

Well played

One of the greenest, fully electric cars on the market, she’s designed to take you up

to 400 kilometres on a single charge! And all while leaving a minimal carbon footprint.

When you’re zipping around town, embarking on a road trip, or just want to sit in a sun-drenched car with a UVprotected glass roof, the Volvo EX30 is your bestie and she does it all in style!
