DIFFERENT COLORS DIFFERENT STORIES Holi, the festival of colors, is associated with various stories. On one hand there is the romantic love story of Radha and Krishna, on the other hand, there is the spiritual fight of Hiranyakashipu and Prahlad. The nature, as John Keats, in his Ode to Spring, puts it, “Disclose the long-expecting flowers, / And wake the purple year!” during the spring clearly signifies the season of color, because during this season new flowers of different kinds of colors bloom and make the whole world colorful. Almost during the same time of the year, Holi, the festival of color, is celebrated with a lot of gaiety. In India, where there is an amalgamation of different religions
and cultures, Holi is associated with various stories associated with different rituals. These stories are not only interesting but metaphorical as well, which speak a lot about the Hindu culture. Holi started as a prank, which was played by Krishna on Radha, because he believed that the nature is unjust as she created fair Radha and darkened his complexion.
Of all the stories that are spoken of, the most romantic is the story of Radha and Krishna. The mythologists of India are of the opinion that “Barsana Ki Holi” actually celebrates the divine love of Radha and Krishna. The story actually refers to a prank that Krishna played on his beloved Radha, which slowly became a ritual, especially in places such as Mathura and Vrindavan. The story goes in this way - one day little
Feature

Krishna complained to his mother about the injustice of Mother Nature. He believes that Mother Nature is not at all just because she had made Radha fair whereas had darkened his complexion. Yasodha, the surrogate mother of Krishna, playfully replied that, if Krishna wants then he could color Radha in whatever way he wants to. The young and the mischievous boy took the playful advice of his mother and played a prank with Radha. The other Gopis in the Vrindavan also enjoyed this and was a part of this prank. Slowly, this mischievous act of Krishna, which allowed him to enjoy some time with Radha and the other Gopis in Vrindavan, became a ritual. An act, which symbolizes the love and the romance of the divine and the human, is the basic essence of Holi. This could be easily felt in Vrindavan and Mathura. It is also known as the Holi of Braj, Barsana, which often symbolizes the romantic relationship of the deities, with their loved ones. Thus, reflecting on the fact that Hindu mythology or philosophy believes
that deities are not all good; rather they are at times lighthearted and even acts as a prankster, but their pranks do not harm the human beings, rather those pranks make the life of the humans colorful, and joyous.
Holi is celebrated in various ways in different parts of India. In Bengal, before, the celebration of Holi there is the celebration of Nyara Pora. It is actually a bonfire, where all the dead leaves and branches are burnt down along with varied kinds of waste materials. The adults and young children both enjoy the celebration with a kind of a frenzy and merriment; and there is a rhyme that goes with this ritual and that is, “Aaj aamader nerapora kal aamader dol/ purnima te chand utheche bolo horibol” [“today is our bonfire tomorrow is our Holi/ in this bright full moon let’s take the name of “hari” (Lord Vishnu/ Krishna)].
(Figure 1: Krishna Playing Holi with Radha and the other Gopis Source: Mukherjee, 2017) Lord Vishnu’s devotee Prahlad did not wanted to accept the supreme authority of his father Hiranyakashipu, so his father planned to kill him, although instead of his son, his own pride and his sister were destroyed.
(Figure 2: The Picture of Nyara Pora Source: Nath, Nath and profile, 2017)

Feature The myth associated with this ritual is the myth of Holika and Prahlad, the most common myth associated with the festival of Holi. It is a story found most commonly in the Vaishnava theology. Hiranyakashipu, the demon king convinced everyone to follow his ways because he used to hold the power. His son was although an exception, because to him, his Lord
www.adesiflava.com
was Lord Vishnu and not his father. Hiranyakashipu, tried out various ways to change the mind of his son, and when he was unable to do so, he took the ultimate path. He called his sister Holika, who was gifted with a shawl, which could prevent her from burning. Hiranyakashipu prepared a bonfire and let his sister sit inside it with young Prahlad on
her lap. Young Prahlad was not afraid by this preparation and he kept on chanting the name of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu, was shocked when he saw a strong breeze had started blowing, and the shawl that had covered Holika flew, and instead covered Prahlad, who was saved from the fire and Holika faced the death.
(Figure 3: The Story of Holika and Prahlad Therefore, this particular incident was the main reason behind the celebration of Holi. Nyara Pora or the bonfire, symbolizes this particular myth. The fire symbolizes the power, which could destroy everything unfair and evil and it also helps the human beings to remember the myth and have faith on the Almighty God; who
could help them to overcome any kind of adverse situation. Many social scientists believe that this particular incident is symbolic of the amalgamation between the Hindu and the tribal rituals. Nyara Pora Symbolizes Fertility The other interpretation of this particular ritual is that it is symbolic
of fertility. Spring is a season of fertility, and both the mood and the attitude of this particular ritual symbolize fertility. The fire symbolizes pride and human fertility is the source of that fire. Fire has often been used in many movies to depict fertility. Social scientists believe that the state of frenzy is related to romance and love

making, therefore, the fire becomes a symbol of fertility. India is a country full of colors and these stories add more colors to a particular festival. Children grow up celebrating these rituals and by listening to these spiritual stories from their grandparents. In the young
age the stories are just for fun or to make them realize the difference between the good and the evil. In the adulthood the complex symbolical interpretation comes into play but it never snatches away the joy and the merriment associated with these festivals.

HOLI FOR THE SOUL
www.adesiflava.com
Health
www.adesiflava.com
Holi is the festival of colors, the time for forgiveness and fun and enjoying the zest for life! While it comes only once in year, there is no reason why it cannot be enjoyed every day, right? And no reason either why this joyous festival cannot be for the soul too. This version of Holi is not played with powdered colors but with other things far less toxic like clothing colors, different crystals and even energy! How, you ask? Read on to find out more about this Holi for the soul. Those not in the know, ancient texts from all over the world tell us that we have a physical body and an energy body. Just like our physical body has parts, our energy body does too. These parts are called chakras. Each chakra corresponds to a specific body part. What affects one, affects the other for sure! So healing the energy body can have a profound effect on the physical condition.
While there are many chakras, there are said to be seven major ones, each of which corresponds to one color in the spectrum that’s commonly abbreviated as VIBGYOR. The upper chakras represent a more mystic and emotional side whereas the lower ones are rooted in the physical. Let’s start from the top; the seventh chakra. This one is called the Sahasrara (Crown) chakra and is located at the crown of your head. The color associated with it is violet and represents spiritual and philosophical matters. This one is very rarely developed in the people you meet every day. It is associated with saints, monks and people adept in the art of meditation. This is the reason why you often find saints and the like depicted with a halo around the head. The 6th chakra is the Ajna chakra or the Third Eye Chakra. It stands for intuition, clarity and seeing
beyond physical appearances. Its color is indigo and it calls for balance between physical and spiritual matters. The Vishudha or the Throat Chakra is the chakra of creativity and communication. It is associated with the color Blue. The God Shiva is known as Neelkanth (blue throat) said to be because he drank the poison that turned up during the churning of the ocean for the amrita and trapped it in his throat making it turn blue. A possible interpretation is that trapping feelings and emotions within can be poisonous to life. This chakra is the thyroid of the energy body, encouraging growth and maturity. The fourth chakra is the Anahata (heart) Chakra. It stands for love, compassion and emotions. While most of us associate matters of the heart with pink, in the energy body it is represented by green. Green is the color of healing. The heart chakra is why you feel anguish

by red, it is also related to instinct, security, and survival. It is responsible for circulation of energy to the other parts of the body. This chakra is generally the one found to be the most developed except in saints and the spiritual. The key is to keep a balance between the physical and emotional. There are many alternate healing methods to pamper your energy body like Reiki, Color therapy, Crystal therapy etc. Just imagine! You can change your day with just the right choice of clothing or jewelry. A good, trained healer can sense the imbalances in your chakras and can take steps to rectify them using color. You can even learn to be a color healer yourself.
and disappointment as pain or heaviness in the heart region. The heart chakra is a transition chakra, a mix of blue and yellow, centrally located, necessary for efficient functioning of both the higher and the lower chakras. The green precious stone, Emerald, is worn for unconditional love and faithfulness. The third chakra is the Manipura (solar plexus) chakra. I call it the happiness chakra. It deals with issues of personal power, fear, anxiety, opinion-formation and introversion. A well-balanced Manipura Chakra brings you happiness. It plays a role in good
digestion and the conversion of food into energy. It is represented by yellow, the color of fire which when used correctly, destroys the negative energies, leaving room only for positivity. The second chakra is the Svadhishtana (sacral) chakra. Denoted by orange, it governs the reproductive system and sexual desire. An imbalance can result in violence, destructive lust and addictions. The sacral chakra and the throat chakra are connected and stand for creativity. The Mooladhara (Root) Chakra also governs sexuality. Represented
Start out small. Experiment with your clothing. Feeling ill? Wear green to encourage feeling and a peaceful mind. Go to a garden and sit for a while. Avoid energetic colors like red and orange. On the other hand, wear blue to overcome communication blocks. If you have a hot date planned, attract attention with red or orange. Use colors to make the world work for you and watch the magic unfold!

HOLA MOHALLA
www.adesiflava.com
The Undefeated Brotherhood It is Holi. The day of colours, of an unrelenting crowd that is high on life (on bhaang, too), and of a general waywardness to colour the lives of everyone you encounterfrom the unruly neighbour who plays loud music at 3 A.M. to the aunt who wouldn’t budge a single rupee for the fruit seller. All is forgiven. It is the spectacle of Holi.

Hola saara Mohalla! And yet, elsewhere, in a remote village in the north-eastern quarter of Punjab, majestic mares race towards an imaginary muleta, all while a crowd throbbing with testosterone cheers them on. It’s a different kind of a spectacle- one unwitnessed by those unwilling to stray from their conventional ways at the festival. It is Hola Mohalla, a unique affair that serves as the finale of a three day long festival held in Anandpur Sahib, a rustic hamlet nestled beside the magnificent Sutlej in Punjab, the land of the five rivers, as the epithet goes. Hola Mohalla is all about a grand showcase. Following a swordfight, there is the machismo exhibition of animals seemingly induced with a drug that is not found elsewhere except in the sense of one’s past, the recognition of how history was indignantly snatched, reshaped and molded by a community known, even today for it’s integrity. Yes, even the previously unthought of occurs here, you can see it in the way horses in their august prime seem to draw energy from the loud chants and rants around them. A Rocky Past Hola Mohalla is a tradition so deeply rooted in history, it is unlikely to find another so intensely imbued with the hints of a difficult past. As tired old faces with bright turbaned heads recall, the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, toiled for the creation of a Khalsa, an army of turbaned monks ready for combat. The adversary? Mughal parochialism and oppression in the face of a heated political milieu. With increasing threats received from successive Mughal emperors, Guru Gobind Singh sensed the need to raise an army
that would serve selflessly for the good of the community. The young men that formed this army went beyond being mere sword-yielding protectors of the community’s frontiers- they were the Khalsa.
They assumed command of the community itself. They were the forefathers of a long standing community that could never be obliterated- not then, not now. And certainly not now.

Shades Of The Same Blue With at least a few lakhs visiting every Holi to witness the grandeur of the festival, the Punjab government takes additional charge to ensure smooth passage of the influx of tourists. The mock battleground is a large patch of grass beside the Charan Ganga. A swarm of men in blue buzz into the picture, all shouting for the
well being of the Khalsa. It is an unprecedented parade of hyper masculine strength. It is tough to miss the extremities, though: there is a bright show of colours one cannot imagine existed. There’s the peacock blue in the crisscrossing interweaves of a mammoth turban being sported by an octogenarian with as much spirit as the young seventeen year old clutching on to
the mock engraved steel sword, his prop for the afternoon.

movements of a combat art, as the play assumes the dimensions of a mock battle where members of the Khalsa fatally wound (only in play, of course) combatants dressed as various Mughal emperors. Gatka is an art that purely facilitates in the realm of a relationship- it is a multidimensional knowledge passed on from an instructor to this pupil, one that cannot be replicated except through years of practice. And yet, here it is. A spectacle extraordinaire. In the midst of the carnival, Bollywood
songs intensify the rapture. Symbols of the faith are seen on every man, guided by the norms of the Khalsa to defend the honour of his community. As one event leads to another, the afternoon passes, but never fades. It is the reverberation of loud voices chanting “Wahe Guru Da Khalsa, Wahe Guru Di Fateh” that ends the day. An unconventional Holi, you see. One loud with the symbols, banners, slogans, tapestry and props of the showcase. Yet, one welcoming every trespasser like they’re part of the brotherhood.

In a seemingly ludicrous attempt at homogenising the uniting feel of the Khalsa, Guru Gobind Singh and his successors added a dollop of masculinity to everything concerned with it. It became the driving force of the army of warriors. Holi became Hola, a carnivalesque

☑ Plan your fitness and diet to fit in with your weekly schedule. Put your EMS kit on as a part of your existing fitness routine or whilst walking or running. Or write your emails, watch TV and do your abdominal training at the same time!
☑ Go outside! Add power walks into your fitness routine. Bring your children with you! Walking with a pram can be a great form of exercise, and you can add some quick training sprints into the walks. ✔☑ After 20 minutes with Slendertone, you can do a circuit of deep squats, lunges.. For increased tone, try 15-20 repetitions to create fabulous looking arms and tightened buns of steel!
☑ Healthy food planning is the easiest way to body-beautiful success, so make sure you understand the different food groups of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
☑ Reduce simple carbohydrates such as sugar, alcohol and white bread, and say no to biscuits and cakes. Opt for complex carbohydrates such as rye, oats, legumes and fresh fruit and vegetables.
☑ Protein is essential as it has fewer calories per gram too, so you need less food to feel full. Go for fish, meat, poultry, eggs, cheese, dhal and rice (these two are also a vegetarian complete protein). ✔☑ Summer is the time to eat lighter foods so try to steam or poach fish, chicken and vegetables to decrease the amounts of fat and oils in your cooking.
☑ T ry to be good 80% of the time, then for 20% of the time treat yourself with whatever you feel like – as long as you have been following a healthy and structured food plan during the week. ❝ “These shorts work. They are amazing for muscle tone… They certainly tone and visibly improve the shape of your bottom! I will continue to use them from now on, just like I do with the Abs belt… I don’t like to spend too much time in the gym, when I can be online or chatting with my poppets. I save time by toning up at home”. ❞ Bea in reference to Slendertone bottom & abs from: The definition of looking good http://www.dulwichmum.net/ slendertone-bottom
GET TO THE CORE! Discover how to sculpt the body you want with Slendertone We all want to look and feel fantastic, but creating a leaner, fitter and stronger body, right from the fundamentals – your muscles – requires hard work, effort and time, something most of us women are short of. Slendertone, the experts in muscle definition, understands the importance of fitting in healthy eating and exercise with a busy schedule, which is why its range of toning belts perfectly complement the busy woman’s lifestyle, helping to tone and firm up your physique in as little as 20 minutes a day. Slendertone Abs Female uses Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) technology to help achieve deep muscle training, stimulating all the abdominal muscles, not just the superficial fibres. It does this by activating the core muscles, which are essential for your core stability, posture and defining your shape. In independent clinical trials* 100 percent of users reported firmer, more toned abs with 72 percent noting an increase in abdominal endurance and 49 percent revealing an increase in abdominal strength. Also in the range is the Slendertone Arms Accessory, to tone the upper arms, so you can be confident wearing a sleeveless top or dress, plus the Slendertone Bottom to lift and reshape your derriere.

30-45 minutes, five times a week Follow a moderate weight strength training programme with high reps to help aid definition. For best results try squats, lunges, pull-ups and push-ups Use the premium Slendertone Abs belt, which works not just the rectus adbominus and oblique muscles, but also the transversus abdominus – the most effective in flattening your stomach The Sybarite Sybarite’s have rounded and soft body shapes with a high bone density. Sybarites generally tend to have underdeveloped muscles and carry weight around the waist. The Sybarite’s physical core values: Sybarites have a naturally curvaceous shape and find they easily put on the extra pounds Need to refrain (90 percent of the time) from eating simple carbohydrates, such as sweets, chocolates, alcohol, white bread, pasta, white rice, soda drinks etc. to avoid weight gain Respond beautifully to long cardiovascular workouts such as circuit classes of 30-60 minutes Fitness prescription A circuit class that incorporates high repetitions with moderate weight strength training and high cardiovascular endurance will burn up those fat stores ■ Strength training will maintain the health, flexibility and strength of your muscles and connective tissue Try wearing the premium Slendertone Abs belt or the Slendertone Bottom as part of your warm-up. Just using the abs belt on a passive programme (level 1-7) for 20 minutes is the equivalent to 120 sit ups and the Slendertone Bottom is the equivalent of 60 reverse leg kicks
SLENDERTONE – THE DEFINITION OF LOOKING GOOD The Slendertone range is perfect for the busy woman, who wants to complement a healthy lifestyle and eating habits. Slendertone Abs has seven passive programmes, where no physical activity is required, and three active programmes for use with exercise, making it ideal for home and outdoor use alike. Using Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) technology to deliver a complete abdominal workout to the rectus, oblique and transversus abdominis core muscles, the belt can help define your shape. During abdominal exercise your muscles naturally respond to the signals your brain sends which, over time and repeated effort, create toned abs. Slendertone technology works in the same way, reaching all of your muscles, including the core, in one short session, whilst you carry on with your daily routine. ‘HELP’ FOR HONG KONG INDIANS A whatsapp group with over 1200 Indians
So far, the best e-initiative for Indians living in Hong Kong - As recognized by Adesiflava Magazine. “You don’t need a reason to Help someone” - Cheryl Lagow
As someone rightly said, strong people don’t put others down, rather they lift them up. Moreover, I would say helping others is more important than helping yourself. We are delighted to share our experiences in running the WhatsApp group called HELP for Hong Kong Indians which currently consists of 1200 Indians. As they say, “we cannot help everyone, but everyone can help someone”. Our HELP group embodies this and we are very successful as our members are HELPING others with a big heart. It was certainly NOT an easy task for us to reach this level and I strongly believe in teamwork and I would like to say a few words about how our team was formed. Unaware of where this would lead to, I had created a small group connecting friends in our estate, Riviera Gardens, Tsuen Wan. I then contacted my friend Santhosh, who resides in Tsing Yi and told him “Let’s add all Indians across the water”. At that moment, I didn’t
www.adesiflava.com
Community
www.adesiflava.com
realize that many Indians from all over Hong Kong will join our group. It’s all after Santhosh named it Helpline that we had decided to take it to the next level and at this point of time Mrs.Nandini joined us which gave us additional strength. As we progressed, we started adding members from other areas and few of my friends…. Thanks to Mrs.Brinda of Tsing Yi, Mr.Krishnan of Mei Foo, Mr.Mayank of Lohas Park. for introducing their friends. Now, I cannot proceed further with my brief article without mentioning Mr. Sanjay Surana, who started giving the utmost importance to our group and he started spreading the word among his huge network. He had also introduced Mrs. Sheela Samtani to me and she is currently one of the main pillars of the HELP group just like Mr. Sanjay. Then, I borrowed the Rajasthani Directory from Sanjay and sent messages to many members to introduce myself and the HELP group. Many of them went on to join, although I was a complete stranger to them. Our sincere thanks to all aforementioned friends. I also wish to thank Mr.Srinivas of Lachmis, Mrs. Vani Ramesh from Kannada Association, Mrs.Renuka Bhargava, Mrs.Jayashree Salilal and all others who have contributed to helping HELP group. Initially, we could add only 100 people in a group and we already had 5 groups. Passing on the information was challenging and Santhosh came up with an idea of swapping messages between the groups. Mrs. Nandini cheerfully took up this highly time-consuming task and was forwarding messages in a Question and Answer model and only queries that no one in that group could answer. Once a
member from another group could help us effectively, she used to forward it to the original group. Nowadays, since we are having 256 members in each group, they are mostly helping themselves. Our HELP groups are named as HELP #1, HELP #2, so on and so forth. The details of the individual HELP groups are as follows: HELP #1 - Started on 3rd June 2015 - 255 members HELP #2 - Started on 18th June 2015 - 254 members HELP #3 - Started on 20th June 2015 - 256 members HELP #4 - Started on 27th July 2015 - 251 members HELP #5 - Started on 28th Nov 2015 - 197 members To prevent unnecessary problems, we have made very clearly defined rules on what CANNOT be done. However, members can advertise their products/services once a month such that the Indian Community can buy/sell among ourselves. Those who advertise cannot reveal about their sales to the Administrators as it wouldn’t align with HELP’s motives. Of course, we are finding it challenging to maintain this amid busy work schedules. Furthermore, we have had some tough times BUT, fortunately, most of the group members are highly professional and they help us by offering some suggestions. We would have discontinued the HELP group without their moral support and I take this opportunity to thank all our group members. I believe it is wonderful to see members being so helpful. It is very encouraging to see that more than 80% of all queries get answered

Community within 5 minutes, either their problems are solved or they are given ideas on how to deal with the problems. For instance, once, one of our HELP# 2 group member got stuck at the HK airport – right when he was heading to India for his wedding. Unfortunately, it seemed that his travel agent failed to book his seat and he sought for help. We forwarded the message from HELP #2 to HELP #1, and immediately afterwards Mr. Barath Panchapakesan from HELP #1 called the CX airport staff. Using the power of his Diamond Membership, he made sure our friend got on board for his wedding by claiming they were brothers. We have many interesting stories like this, to name a few, some rented out their apartment to fellow Indians and some Indians even got their jobs through our HELP group. So, we can vouch for Omoakhuana Anthonia’s quote that “The greatest purpose in life, the greatest achievement one could ever have in life, the greatest satisfaction one could ever get in life can only be found by servicing others”. Having gathered a huge crowd of more than 1200 people together for a good cause, we are now planning to attend to the needs of our community. We welcome readers to come and join us. THE DTC HONG KONG A tournament like no T20 BLITZ other in the world
Five days, 11 matches and a combination of the world’s biggest stars sharing the spotlight with Associate players. The tournament was initially designed to provide opportunity for our domestic players to learn from cricketers overseas, but since last year it has exploded into a worldrenowned event that is lifting the profile of the sport in the territory. It’s a huge challenge with our small team at Cricket Hong Kong to execute an event of this magnitude but we are relishing the opportunity to deliver this new concept as one of our key events driving our mission to ignite a passion for the sport. The tournament in 2016 was arranged and organised in just seven weeks and exceeded our expectations. On this occasion we and the teams have had nine months to prepare and therefore our expectations are high for the quality of cricket that will on display. For those familiar with Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, you will struggle to recognise the facility with grandstands, marquees and banners dressing up the venue to a much-improved standard. It’s very important to us to have a full house on both weekend days to prove to our key stakeholders that the Hong Kong cricket community has the passion which we trumpet throughout the year.

Of course, the tournament would not be possible without the dedication of our five team owners. They invest an enormous amount of time and money into their teams to help raise the profile of this event. It was a huge coup to have Michael Clarke here in 2016, but for this season we have 25 quality international signings which we are all very much looking forward to see. I don’t think anyone anticipated we’d be seeing Sangakkara, Misbah Ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Darren Sammy all headed to Hong Kong for the Blitz this year. We welcome all our overseas guests and trust they will enjoy their stay in Hong Kong and be treated to the warmest of hospitality. What has been equally impressive from the teams is their willingness and drive to engage with fans, in particular kids, from all over Hong Kong. For a tournament that exists to inspire the next generation of cricketers in Hong Kong, it is
www.adesiflava.com
paramount that we engage with our young players. As part of this, we are delighted to have Operation Breakthrough as our official charity partner for the tournament and I’m very proud that will be able to make a small difference for the better in our community. A big thank you also must go out to our tournament sponsors who have invested in a tournament still establishing itself and believing in what Cricket Hong Kong can do for the community. DTC Mobile are fantastic sponsors and are working as hard as we are to make the event as memorable as possible. I do encourage you to support them as they have supported us in making this tournament possible. Our other key partners KPMG, Peroni, Regal Hotels and Gencor we also thank for their generous support. We will be broadcasting our event for the first time via Facebook in addition to our regular stream
Buzz In Town
www.adesiflava.com
through YouTube. This is incredibly exciting for us as we adopt our strategy of growing the reach of the tournament to over 1 million people. Our long term goal is to have the event broadcast live in Hong Kong and we believe we will make a compelling case for that this year not only with this tournament but also the Hong Kong Sixes later in 2017. You will also be able to see the tournament through other digital channels, however at time of writing this is subject to our pre-tournament testing of delivery so you will have
to stay tuned to our Facebook page for an announcement on that! Finally, I would just like to say a big thank you to all the Hong Kong Cricket fans, especially those who have bought a ticket. It’s going to be a memorable spectacle and I hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed collaborating to put on this showpiece event. Keep your eye on the ball, there’s going to be plenty of sixes hit! Good luck to all teams, as Tournament Director I will be cheering for ties in every game!

MRS. POONAM MEHTA SHARE YOUR LOVE AND RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS WITH HER, SHE KNOWS IT ALL..
Question 1: Hi Aunty wish you a very happy holi in advance .My name is Neerja and am a working woman for the last 8 years in Hong Kong, am married and have 2 kids. My question to you is despite being a totally committed wife to my husband and fairly performing in my job. I still have to put up with the tantrums of my husband who has a very narrow approach towards life. I mean that corporate world is such that you are bound to be with people opposite to our sexes. I may sound a bit cliché over here but the fact is my husband just cannot take the fact that I do have male colleagues and I have only professional relationship with them. On the other hand he is very happy to have females around him (very typical though) and is a pseudo dictator. At times he has shouted at me for coming home late because of my work in front of my colleagues. Now how do I confront him or teach him a lesson of life so that he remains calm. Dear Neerja, Thank you for trusting my views. It is important to remember that the main goal of marriage should be peace and happiness. Teaching anyone a lesson does not work; neither should you allow him to treat you like a doormat. Your selfrespect is important; therefore, don’t let him tread over you, while he can continue to have his own way. Many of the intolerable behaviors that your husband may exhibit stem from insecurity and the desire to establish control and dominance in the relationship. It is not easy to not get offended while listening to harsh words. But if you recognize in your mind that he is wrong and not you, it will be easier to not get offended.
Resolve by calmly communicating your feelings. Sit down and let him know how it feels when being insulted, and that he certainly has no right to do so. Bring to his attention that as a woman you have similar responsibility at work as any man. Furthermore, that you are playing an impeccable role as of a wife and mother If he is feeling insecure because of your achievements, then he should spell it out, that may mean he loves and cares for you, and misses you while you have been away. If he gets defensive, politely make it clear that henceforth, you will not tolerate his base less insults, and that you treasure your selfrespect and integrity. In addition, let him know his tantrums will not be entertained anymore. Best Wishes
“Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people.” ― Spencer Johnson Question 2: Hi Aunty. How are you? My name is Sonia born and brought up in Hk. I like your answers a lot and regularly read them. This is the first time I am writing to you hope it reaches your table. My problem is I am in love with a guy of a different caste and wanted to marry him which was turned down by my parents.. Fine not all are lucky! But now my real brother has a girlfriend of diff caste and soon going to be his bride and this is very gracefully accepted by my parents who have had love marriage of their own. So there is now a situation which I am in please help me in making my mind whether to hate them for being extremely mean to me or I don’t understand the thought behind their reluctance in accepting my relation …btw the guy belonged from a well to do family ..pls help
Dear Sonia, Thank you for your encouraging words. When you say different caste, it is not clear if your boyfriend you were dating with was a Hindu or a Muslim. If you are a Hindu and the boy you were dating was Muslim or vice versa then it would matter to many parents. If not, then I empathize with you for this unfair decision on your parent’s part. Parents, for various reasons, fear for their daughter’s welfare and they feel solely responsible for their children’s wellbeing. They may not be aware that daughters have similar feelings as their sons. Navigating this situation will take time, patience, and clear communication from you is vital. However, if you focus on a respectful and loving appreciation for your parents’ fears, getting them to accept your life changes is truly possible. Reason with them why they are not able to accept your decision of marrying a man of your choice, whereas, they have no objection to your brother’s choice of inter - caste marriage, let them know even though they have rejected your choice, never the less, you are very happy for your brother. Open communication is better than sulking away. Good Luck!

Tell people how you feel.” Warsan Shire Please send your love and relationships related questions to adesiflava@gmail.com with subject line AUNTY MVP. You may request to keep your identity anonymous.

PREDICTIONS BY SIR BEJAN DARUWALA - MARCH 2017 Aries: Ganesha says with the special insights of last period, you will examine all your relationships almost under a microscope. You will also seek to put them into perspective. You redefine your own role to your parents, your children, your spouse or lover or mate. In all, you will seek to fulfil the expectations they have of you. These expectations will not be voiced by them but perceive by you, your psyche, yourself. Taurus: The pressure of your work never really goes away from you. In addition you will feel the pressure, pulls, and demands. It is still a time for success and achievements, though not as spectacular as the first half of the period. That is the way it was for you past period, too. And like last material / worldly success and the second half, as spiritual and emotional growth. Family, money issues, love and passion, travel and spirituality – many things are happening to you simultaneously. Gemini: The tensions, worries, fears and anxieties of the past period will fade away now. Ease and comfort in living, peace and calm of mind are experienced. Work / business / career / will find you greatly successful. In fact, you have been successful right through but the satisfaction quotient will be much higher now. It is not just experienced professionally. You get the same aura of success in family life, in love, in friendship. Cancer: Fun, family, entertaining and finance – once again, they are all there but on a much larger scale now. Therefore, heavier expenses are bound to happen, too. Finances, too, will not mean family or domestic budgeting alone. There could be international transactions and transfers of
funds, joint – finances, deals, abroad, also collaborations, mergers, tie-ups. Leo: You’re in a mood to solve problems, extend help, support commitment. These problems could be global or world – related, or closer to home. Your attitude will be equally sincere and caring towards both. Also while dealing with financial matters like generating capital, dealing with loans, trusts, endowments, you take equally good care of your dependents, children, subordinates, servants. Virgo: If Ganesha gave you no spare time, He must be fair and give you the energy, will-power, strength to cope. And that’s just what you experience now. Love and money angles will be particularly energised. Health will be better. You’ll also take better care of yourself physically. You want to be fighting fit, in appearance and turnout too. Libra: Realizing that you cannot live in splendid isolation, as you were tempted to do in the previous period, you now brush up communication skills, and public relations. New places will attract you. New friends enthuse and excite you. There is a glorious exchange of ideas, opinions, hopes and plans for the future. Your enthusiasm, energy, joi de vivre all register without gains! Scorpio: You got so much out of social interaction and friendship that you will now raise it to the level of a fine art! This is no exaggeration. New friends and old, and even your rivals, competitors, enemies – you interact with them all. Only the ways you will vary! Your performance at interviews, meetings, presentations, debates will be dazzling.
Sagittarius: People and people and people. That’s how important they will be for you. As I said last period, even rivals and competitors. You are now confident, full of energy, daring, enterprise, ready to take on allcomers. You are loving, warm, caring – and busy. You will be popular, successful, very much in demand at social gatherings, functions, ceremonies. Capricorn: Ganesha gives you many rewards – success, power, recognition and prestige, perks and benefits. These are the tangibles. In additions, His gifts are – greater intuition and perceptiveness, therefore much more kindness, tolerance, warmth, sincere caring and affection. Your spiritual and psychological gains are truly spectacular and much more valuable. Aquarius: You will not seek to exhibit or show off your personal values, idealism, even convictions. Perhaps you are afraid it will all get dissipated or frittered away. Perhaps it is too intensely personal to be displayed. However, you will be concerned about how others see you, about the image you project. You will have the desire and the confidence to try to excel in new fields; new challenges will be faced, fresh skills acquired. Pisces: Perhaps you feel that where you’re happiest, where things go best for you in terms of satisfaction is at home. Whatever the reason, the end of this period finds you looking at domestic life as your special world. You will seek to address disputes, contentions regarding family / joint property; perhaps there could be family funds or even a divorce to be negotiated. What you realize now is that that is where you’re needed the most.

PREDICTIONS BY SIR BEJAN DARUWALA - APRIL 2017 Aries: Ganesha says travel and journeys and fine friendships based on shared ideas, plans, and perhaps even shared finances will come to you in the start of this period. Meetings, liaisons, even long – distance connections could all be the outcome. Needless to say, expenses too – very high indeed. You could be investing and saving for future gains, making economies now. Taurus: A certain restlessness, perhaps even a mood of dissatisfaction may have been developing with you. At least, you feel it now. You will turn to meditation, spiritual practices, higher study to give meaning and direction to your life. You may also undertake a fair amount of travel in your desire for peace, or just to relax your mind. Gemini: You started the period by planning for the future. You will now seek to create the finances to implement these plans, realising that nothing is possible without the proper funds. Your own earnings and efforts will be your best bet, and you will be encouraged by the support for your plans, by the sharing of ideas with like – minded people. Cancer: You are full of daring, a desire for risk – taking, to gamble for future prosperity. Even in love and romance, you are willing to risk your heart, though not yet throw your cap over the windmill. New means of earning and enterprise, coupled with new methods of study, acquiring higher learning and fresh skills will all open up. Leo: Your relationship with the community will be stronger, much more symbiotic. You give as much as you gain. This could apply equally to your angle of love
and friendship, too. There could be some really genuine and very beautiful partnerships developing now – leading to security, gain, prosperity. You will need to think hard about work and money issues, but what your true concentration will be on is your reaching out to people, most definitely. Virgo: A sudden spurt of activity – on all fronts. Your enthusiasm and energy increase manifold and you need outlets in different ways. Friendly relationships and romantic ones, too, family life, community concerns, religion, spiritual practices, mental challenges and emotional bonding – you want them all, and Ganesha gives them to you! Libra: Most of what I wrote about and what kept you busy last period will continue, spill over into this period, too. Remember, it was a periodic trend, and this had to be so. Therefore work and business, love and romance, social concerns, family life, property and money issues will all be handled, dealt with, carefully and systematically. But that’s not the total picture. Scorpio: Both domestic concerns and office / work schedule will make demands which you will stretch yourself to enact, in true fashion. You have a strong sense of family, of duty and you consider the demands both just and necessary. You will have brilliant and very constructive ideas on dealing with friends and family and also financial issues, not to mention the joyousness of love. Sagittarius: With all the demands on you – and you continue to fulfil them in this period, too – a justified feeling of exhaustion, of being fed up may build up. You will find neither pleasure nor work attractive or rewarding. It is not just ennui or
boredom or weariness. You consider new values much more important, valuable, and fulfilling. Prayer, philosophy, idealism, concern for the globe and for its inhabitants – its flora and fauna, too – will all seem much more important. Capricorn: Your social, global environmental concerns continue to be as relevant this period as they were before. In addition there is partying, socializing, entertaining. All these lead to a drain on your cash, in fact very high expenses. Ganesha now gives you the funds to meet at all expenses. New collaborations / projects will pay well right from the start, too, so that the cash – crunch will be a thing of the past. Aquarius: Once again, a lot to deal with so that you will need to adjust do some rescheduling. You’ll need patience to cope with the many changes at work and in the family scene. Home affairs, dependents, children, pets, health concerns, dealing with older people, community problems will have to be reconciled with demanding work schedules. Pisces: Your hectic, even manic schedule of activities still gives you no respite. Loved ones and family will come first in your mind, but there will also be financial and property matters, legal issues, trusts, tie – ups, collaborations, partnerships to name just a few! You’ll have to work practically round the clock to cope with it all, and meet the necessarily heavy expenses.
