Firstly I would like to congratulate ourselves for completing 8 years of our publication in Hong Kong. I still remember the planning of our first issue which took Neha and myself a lot of efforts to just think of what we should do, what contents we should add and who will pay for all of this? Both of us were never from publishing background with the grace of God, positive thinking and gratefulness of so many of you, we managed to put together the pieces of this puzzle. God's been great and Bappa (Lord Ganesha) has been standing with us fighting all obstacles and clearing them one by one. I gratefully acknowledge the contributions made by our freelance writers who just took my crazy ideas and topics and believed in writing on them. We are thankful for so many businesses and enterprises in Hong Kong who supported us by advertising in A-Desilva. May Bappa (Lord Ganesha) bless each one of you and may you prosper, progress and be always happy in your personal and professional life. This issue is very special to me, I've added a step-by-step instructions guide on how to bring lord Ganesha home, how to do his sthapna and how to wish him farewell. Though Bappa (Lord Ganesha) is a forgiver of all sins, bad deeds and wrong practices why not we all follow some procedures with mantra's which our ancient priests and core followers have embibed. Nowadays wherever i visit for Ganpati festival, i see all families doing things differently and in their own way, and at the end we just say 'Bhagwan Maaf Kardena Kisi Bhi Bhool Chuk Ke Liye (forgive us for any procedure we did wrongly)". Instead why not we just superimpress our bappa. PHILANTHROPRENEUR is a new column added from this issue onwards. In this column, our in-house writer Faiz Qezilbash will be interviewing top 12 successful people from Hong Kong, who are not only successful in business but are also giving back to the society by ways of charity, social work and religious offerings. The idea of this column is also to put together 10 commandments of each of these successful people so that these commandments inspire and motivate our young generation entrepreneurs. Funjabi Bhangra Hong Kong & Hong Kong Pub Crawl are also giving it back to their Hong Kong people by way of entertainment, fun and a good time. Funjabi believes in dancing with the roots and Hong Kong Pub Crawl beleives in enjoying nights without any roots, just go with-the-flow and a have a good night-out in HK. With my ending note, I want to request each one of you to please attend our yearly mega event Delia School of Canada Navratri Utsav 2018, on 13 October at Southorn Stadium. We believe in giving meaningful events to Hong Kong for which i would be highly obliged if you all can extend your support and trust.

Thanking you all! Rave, reviews and comments, please send me. Gaurav Pardeshi | Chief Editor | gaurav@adesiflava.com

Ganpatti Bappa Mourya! In Hong Kong, several Indians celebrate Ganesh Utsav and seek for the blessings of Bappa by bringing our beloved god home. Here is a very authentic step-by-step guide to follow with mantra’s right from sthapna till Visarjan. Bappa forgives our wrong practices but why not all of us just follow the right procedures and make sure we get double blessings and rewards from Bappa this year.

How to Bring Ganpati Home The following information will give you all the details on the vidhis and the procedures to Bring Ganpati Home on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. A majority of people prefer to bring Bappa home one day prior to the day of Chaturthi. We too, recommend you the same. Please refer to the Muhurut timings with any local Maharaj or on a website, to guide yourself of the appropriate Muhurut time to bring Bappa home and perform the Sthapana. Be sure to carry the following when you leave to bring Bappa: •  Aggarbatti •  Dhoop •  Aarti Thaali

•  •  •  •  •

Matchbox Supari - 1 no. Paan Leaf - 1 no. Cloth to Cover Murti Cloth to keep on sandli / paath* •  Sandli* (also referred to as chaurang or paath) The Sandli (often made of wood) makes it easier to carry Ganesh Murti.

Performing the vidhis / rituals: Light the Aggarbatti and dhoop in the Aarti Thaali. Saying 'Om Gan Ganpatiye Namah' place the Paan Leaf with a Supari resting on top of it on the floor in front of the Sandli. Also, place some Dakshina for the people who have artistically created the beautiful Murti. Take His name, and pray for

the festival to be a blessed one! If you are bringing Bappa home one day earlier, cover the Murti's face with a vastra. Only open this on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi during Staphna. Chant the Praise: GANPATI BAPPA MORIYA! You are ready to leave. Take Bappa Home! - Ganpati Bappa Moriya!

Important : Leave the paan, supari and dakshina at the place behind, if someone is bringing the Ganesh Murti for you from India, you can handover this supari and dakshina to the person or can also leave this at the store from where you buy the Ganesh Murti. Do not forget to bring the

Aarti Thaali back home with you. Before entering Home with the Murti, ask a family member to bring a bowl of rice. Shower the rice (kacha rice) on Bappa before bringing Bappa inside. On the day of Chaturthi, Before placing Bappa on his Sthaan, place some kacha rice, on it rest a Supari, Haldi, KumKum, Abhil and Dakshina.

Place Bappa on His Sthaan. You are ready for the Sthapna.

Large numbers of people observe Ganesha Chaturthi poojas at home. Whereas most people prefer to call pundits home on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi to perform the Ganesh Staphna, the majority of the people also prefer to perform the rituals by them-selves with sampoorna bhavna and prem.

Here is an explanation of how to perform Ganesha pooja and Staphna at home as mentioned in Hindu scriptures. Ganesha pooja on the Chaturthi day is usually performed as per the Muhurat. Please see the muhurat timings on the main page of this website by clicking here. The pooja can be led by any one of the family members and others should join in. God worship is enjoyed by everyone. Pooja means the traditional ceremony by which God is worshipped. However, the devotion is the indispensable part of any pooja, by which, even simple gestures and poojas are like sacred rituals. Before entering the shrine room, all the attendees should take bath, dress in clean clothes and bring a small offering of flowers or fruits. Generally, fruits offered are bananas, mangoes, sweet limes, pomegranates and jackfruit. Firstly, Prepare the kalash: take a kalash and fill it with clean drinking water, add to

the water 1 supari, Rs. 1, 25 paise coins or HK$1.25 coins, haldi and kumkum, some attar (perfume oil), place 5 paan leaves, and finally the coconut. Decorate the coconut and the paan leaves with haldi and kumkum.

Next, prepare the sthaan where Ganpati will sit. Do that by spreading a handful of kacha rice grains on the place. Over the rice grains, place one supaari and put haldi and kumkum on the supari. Over that place some dakshina. Reciting "Ganpati Bappa Moriya", we must place the Ganpati Idol over this preparation. The worship begins with the "Sthapana" (establishment) of the idol. Next step is to invoke Ganesha into the image. This is known as pran-prathishta. The Pran

our website on the link mentioned above.

Keep a red pooja dhaga next to Ganpati Bappa, this can later be tied on hands of all family members after the First Aarti. Once the 'Pranpratishtha' is done, then you need to light the lamp and incense sticks to please the 'God'.

the Ganesha Upanishad or just simply pray. You are ready for the Aarti! You can sing Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh and Sukh Karta Dukh Harta.

After the Aarti, the family members should gather in front of Ganesh Ji, keep a coconut next to Him and say, "Dear Ganesh Ji, we welcome you to our home.

In our offer of prayers, in case we have committed any mistakes, knowingly or unknowingly, kindly forgive us. We pray on behalf of all of us to make this Chaturthi a blessed one. Keep us all happy and healthy always". You are welcome to add your prayers here. PLEASE NOTE: It is essential to ask for forgiveness at this time while placing the coconut. On the day of the visarjan, this coconut should also be immersed in the water. You can also tape-record this entire Staphna for your memory with the Mini DV cassettes.

Thereafter, all of the family members bow down to Ganesha and ask for God's blessings to fulfill all their desire. While performing Ganesha Pooja at home, you can always be flexible. The strict rituals are meant for Vedic priests. All you need to be careful is to perform the pujas with a clean body and clean mind. What is more important is devotion not the ritual.

Try to be simple. Concentrate on your prayers not on decoration and other ritualistic details.

How to Perform Ganesh Visarjan These are some of the common doubts that many devotees have; the concept of Ganesh Chaturthi is that Ganesha comes to the home of his devotees on Ganesh Chaturthi day. He brings auspiciousness, hope, success and happiness to all homes. His brief stay, He removes all obstacles. While returning He takes with him all problems and unhappiness.

Ganesh Visarjan Mantras: There are no specific Ganesh Visarjan mantras. The only chant that is done is Ganapati Bappa Moriya... You can also chant this prayer : Mushikavaahana modaka hastha, Chaamara karna vilambitha sutra, Vaamana rupa maheshwara putra, Vighna vinaayaka paada namasthe

Meaning: O Vinayaka! The remover of all obstacles, the son of Lord Shiva, with a form which is very short, with a mouse as Thy vehicle, with sweet pudding in hand, with wide ears and long hanging trunk, I prostrate at Thy lotus-like Feet!

Ganesh Visarjan Procedure: Before taking Ganesh for Visarjan. You should perform Aarti. All the family members should be present. Usual Ganesh Mantras and Aarti prayers should be

changed. On the day of Visarjan, the day should start with the Pooja (Morning Aarti). We sing the Jai Ganesh Deva and Sukhkarta Dukhharta Aartis. After the Aarti, it is preferred to put 'Bhog' the Holy Prasad! which should be distributed among all the family members. The visarjan ritual begins with the Uttarang puja which involves offering five items, namely deep (oil lamps), pushp (flowers), dhoop (incense), gandh (fragrance)

and naivedya (food) to Ganpati. When it is time for Visarjan, the family members should gather once again and perform the Visarjan Aarti before leaving the house. (the same aartis as mentioned above). After the Visarjan Aarti and distributing the prasad, one of the family members should very slowly and slightly move the Ganpati Murti, about 1 inch forward. This should be done just before leaving the house abt 5-10 mins before. This is

an indication/significance to Him that the family is going to take Him for Visarjan. You should thank Ganesha for visiting your home. Thank him for bringing prosperity and auspiciousness. Thank him for taking away all difficulties with him. Ask for his pardon for any mistakes committed. If you plan to bring Ganesh murti next year, then ask

him to return by saying ‘Ganpati Bappa Mourya Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya or can just make a prayer in any language that ‘Hey God Ganesh please come to our house next year’ After this, all members of the household gather to sprinkle akshat or raw rice upon the lord. Now a spoonful of curd is poured into Ganesh's outstretched palm because Hindus especially

Maharashtrians believe that any guest who receives curd and rice is sure to visit again. Take a red cloth, put sukha nariyal (half), stuff it with jaggery and 5 different grains, tie it in a knot and tie this around Ganesh ji's hand. This is the food prepared for His journey. Ask for His blessings. The family then circumambulates Ganesha murti after which it is led for immersion.

15

Take some water and sprinkle it on the person performing the Visarjan or you can visit any nearby pond, lake, river or sea to immerse the Ganesh statue. Remember if you are immersing the statue in water and won't be taking it back, dip and remove the Murti 3 times before letting it going inside in the third dip.

Adesiflava will be interviewing Hong Kong’s South Asian crème da le crème, mainly successful entrepreneurs and businessmen, in order to get an insight into how they have managed to perfect the art of balancing successful business returns with philanthropy and social work.

Column & Interview by : Faiz Qezilbash

S

o, what is success and how do you measure it? Thomas Jefferson once said “ The glow of one warm thought is to me worth more than money”. You would expect a man of Jefferson’s stature to either mention power or wealth, since he has gone down in history as an American founding father and president. However, he did just the opposite. Going back to where it all began, what is success and what is your yardstick to measure it?

Ramesh Rewachand Amarnani was born on the 07th of January 1951 in Mumbai, (then Bombay)

India. Not only is he an established businessman but is also a philanthropist and a successful family man. Despite running a successful trading business, he takes time out from his busy schedule to give back to society. He is happily married to Mrs. Jaya Amarnani, his companion of thirty-seven years, who also happens to be a certified yoga instructor. A father to two worthy sons, Kunal, who helps with the family business and Raj, a UK based doctor, Mr. Amarnani can be a role model for many. “I came to Hong Kong at the tender age of 17 with three pounds in my pocket” is what Ramesh Amarnani told me when I asked him about his younger days. “I had no godfather, uncle or even distant relative to take me under his or her wing or watch out for me, and I literally had to start from scratch” said Mr. Amarnani. “My family in India had fallen upon hard times and I had no option, but to seek employment. Hong Kong had opened up it’s visa policy and that is how I ended up here. The initial days were extremely tough and there were times when I went to

bed on an empty stomach. However, I did not let these hardships rattle me and remained focused, which is why you’re interviewing me today. One mustn’t give up and persistence is very important” These are stories you read in books and view in films and here is a man who has actually lived them! I asked him whether he had witnessed a drastic change in Hong Kong, the city that had changed his destiny and this is what he had to say “Besides the whole commercial and financial metamorphosis there has been a huge change in Hong Kong’s social fabric as well. In today’s day and age your social circle is directly proportional to your financial stature. This wasn’t the case earlier, sad but true! Especially the youngsters of today. Their mindset is very different to ours and professional and monetary success is of utmost importance to them. We as a generation were ambitious as well. However, we had a value system that has remained with us till this day. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case with the subsequent generations” In continuation to this I asked him why the young entrepreneurs of today didn’t seem as successful as their predecessors and his answer seemed so apt. “The youngsters today are extremely impatient. They are seeking immediate success and validation and are willing to indulge in

inappropriate practices to achieve the same. Real success can only be achieved through continuous hard work and honesty. You have to pay your dues and be patient. Success that is achieved overnight is usually short-lived and can also cause damage. The three main ingredients required to achieve long term success are honesty, hard work and patience. I’m in agreement with the fact that the dynamics of business has changed, since we live in a more digitized world today. There is more access to information and the challenges faced by the young entrepreneurs of today are different to what we faced when we started off. However, the core issues remain the same.”

“The youngsters today are extremely impatient. They are seeking immediate success and validation and are willing to indulge in inappropriate practices to achieve the same. It was now time to explore the other facet of this very consummate individual’s life, his philanthropy. He is almost single-handedly responsible for setting up the Sai Baba temple in Hong Kong and is also actively involved in several charities, some involving other communities as well, a fact known to very few. “I’ve been an ardent Sai Baba bhakt, since childhood and his love and blessings have made all of this possible. Baba has been a huge influence on me, since my formative

years and his teachings are a large reason for all the philanthropic work that I do today. Baba’s selflessness and his love for one and all regardless of caste, creed, religion and financial status are unparalleled. It is he who gives me the strength to whatever little it is that I do for society and I feel blessed. For me success is a lot more than just earning money and living a lavish lifestyle. A wholesome life is one that is of benefit to others as well. There is such a lot of suffering and grief in the world today and if every

I must admit that the interview with Mr. Amarnani was an enlightening experience and it got me thinking. Should we restrict success only to our personal achievements or is there more to life than just financial and professional fulfillment? The likes of Ramesh Amarnani don’t come by that often and I think it’s time we all took a leaf out of his book.

Calling all nightlife enthusiasts!

If you’re a fan of Hong Kong’s nightlife, want to experience it without hurting your wallet and meet people from all over the world while doing so, look no further.

F

ounded in 2010 by nightlife enthusiasts, Hong Kong Pub Crawl has been redefining nightlife ever since. Hong Kong Pub Crawl’s tours are famous for their excellent drink deals, off-the-beaten-track venues, and being the best way to meet like-minded travelers from Hong Kong, India, and all around the world. A-Desiflava Magazine sat down with Steph, one of the managers of Hong Kong Pub Crawl, to pick her brain about Hong Kong Pub Crawl and how it caters to South Asians.

Q: How was the idea of Hong Kong Pub Crawl conceived?

A: Hong Kong Pub Crawl was actually founded in 2010 by a group of local nightlife enthusiasts who noticed a lack of budgetfriendly nightlife options in Hong Kong, especially for tourists. When one thinks of Hong Kong nightlife, one thinks champagne, fancy nightclubs, and flashy glamor, but not everyone can or want to spend exorbitant amounts of money for the “Crazy Rich Asians” lifestyle. With over 4.7 million incoming tourists per year, we wanted to offer an option for locals and tourists alike to party together and explore the best of Hong Kong bars without paying an arm and a leg for entry fee and drinks.

BUZZ IN TOWN

Volume 7 | Issue 5

Q. How exactly does Hong Kong Pub Crawl work?

A: Our crawls are $100 each, which includes our exclusive drink deals and free entry to the Happy Valley Racecourse or final nightclub, depending if you go on the Wednesday or Thursday crawl. Our drink deals at all bars are $40-for-2-beers, $30 signature cocktail, and a free shot at each bar.

Q: Where do the crawls take you?

A: Hong Kong Pub Crawl’s signature Lan Kwai Fong (LKF) Crawl in Central is on 9pm every Thursday and we go through Hong Kong’s SOHO and LKF bar districts. The Horse Races Crawl runs every race night from 7pm on Wednesdays at the Happy Valley Racecourse in partnership with the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), touring through the iconic horse races in Happy Valley followed by a pub crawl in the Wan Chai bar district. We also have special events at least once every month, so be sure to check our calendar for events at https://hongkongpubcrawl. com/pages/crawl-calendar.

Q: What kind of bars does Hong Kong Pub Crawl visit?

A: One of the favorite bars among our South Asians customers is Culture Club. Owned by Aruna Rana, Culture Club Gallery is

situated in the heart of the SOHO district and is a familyowner operated business. The spacious indoor and outdoor seating area makes it an ideal stop for our crawl. Across the past three years, Hong Kong Pub Crawl participants have received special deals and enjoyed many nights in the vibrant and relaxed atmosphere. Their finger food menu caters to the Asian palate and includes a good selection of Indian food. Culture Club Gallery is so named, as one of their primary objectives is to provide a low cost venue for cultural events in the city centre. In addition to the Hong Kong Pub Crawl, examples of events hosted include art exhibitions, Indian group meet-ups, Argentinean tango classes, vinyl sales, newly published authors reviews, literary and writers groups.

Q: How many South Asians frequent Hong Kong Pub Crawl?

A: Our customers are generally mostly tourists from all walks of life, and people from India is our fourth largest customer demographic, with over 800 visitors from India on our website in just the last 3 months. While it’s hard to give an exact number of customers from India, our crawls are very popular with Indian tourists and locals alike - just check our reviews! At Hong Kong Pub Crawl,

29

we believe in the more the merrier, so join us for a night (or nights!) to remember.

Q: What’s your favorite or most memorable Hong Kong Pub Crawl event?

A: As we’re a weekly event, it’s hard to say which one’s my favorite! We do special events frequently and all of them are quite memorable. Every Halloween, for example, we try to outdo ourselves with crazy costume ideas, including one where we had everyone dress up in togas. Most recently, we launched HK’s first ever inter-hostel beer pong competition where we plotted four (very) competitive hostels against each for a table service giveaway prize at one of our nightclub-partner venues. If I had to single one event out, it would’ve been the Santa Crawl we organized in 2016 for Operation Santa Claus, a charitable initiative run jointly by the SCMP and RTHK. That night, under the theme “Drink for A Cause”, we attracted large crowds wearing Santa Hats and pub crawl t-shirts, and donated all proceeds from that crawl to charity. We were also able to get corporate sponsorship from Klook.com and the LKF Group, two large corporates in Hong Kong. Nothing warms my heart more than being able to do our bit for charity whilst doing what we do best – pub crawling!

Dancing with the roots F

unjabi Bhangra is a team filled with a group of passionate and talented bhangra dancers based in Hong Kong. The team started with two best friends and gradually inspired more members to join. Formed with unity, the team works together and perform on various occasions and events to showcase their cultural dance. The founder

Funjabi Bhangra Hong Kong of Funjabi Bhangra, Harry Baath, also the brand ambassador of Learn Bhangra App and World Bhangra Council, has been dancing for more than 12 years now. He dedicated his time to promote and share knowledge about bhangra in Hong Kong. Funjabi had great opportunities to perform on the international platform

twice representing Hong Kong. In 2016, for Bhangra Dance-off held in Malaysia, they competed against other teams. In 2017, for Bhangra Extravaganza Showcase held in Singapore. Needless to say, both the experiences taught them a lot and made the team stronger in all aspects. Locally, the team performed in a cultural event for Rooh Punjab Di recently which was organised by Satrang

entertainment and Buttars associate. It goes without saying that Funjabi has long-term goals and aims to achieve. As less people are aware of this folk yet uplifting culture of bhangra, Funjabi aims to spread this to the Hong Kong community and youth. By educating the community about the history and the beauty of bhangra, the

adesiflava.com

team plans on influencing the youth by contributing more in the Learn Bhangra workshops and classes for both kids and adults. Also, events will be organised to spread knowledge about bhangra so that the youth will have fun and learn at the same time. As for now, Funjabi got another chance to perform on an international level of bhangra in Malaysia for the Bhangra Dance off 2018 hosted by the Universiti Teknologi Petronas in October where teams from other countries come and compete. Through this participation, the team will evidently experience the competitive platform . Therefore, getting a chance to gain and spread

knowledge both locally and overseas.

What is Learn Bhangra? it is a dance and fitness organization based in USA focused on bringing Bhangra to everyone. Harry Baath represents Hong Kong as a brand ambassador of Learn Bhangra and organises its outreach through workshops and classes. Learn Bhangra workshops

are for people who are not able to attend regular bhangra classes. While Learn Bhangra Classes are for training the basic to advanced steps and to enrich cultural understanding.

Don't worry ask Aunty

Each issue, we invite readers to send us questions under anonymity about personal dynamics and relations. Here are 4 selected questions from those recently sent to us:

Aunty Poonam

Question 1: Hello Poonam Aunty, My name is Shubangi(Name changed) living in New Territories I am 40 yrs old and I really need your help I am a

married woman with a daughter, recently I came to know that my husband is dating someone. He comes home late at nights doesn't answer my call or text, like before. He abuses me and if I ask him the reason for being late etc. I am fed up with daily arguments. My daughter is growing up all and these issues are

taking place in front her and are affecting her How do I solve this problem without my daughter knowing whats happening?

Answer 1

Dear Shubangi, I understand your pain and concern for your growing daughter, it is certainly not healthy for her to face such a situation. Infidelity is one of the most difficult

challenges a marriage can face. It doesn't always mean it's the end. It's essential for you and your husband to carefully consider what changes you both are willing to make in order to get past it. I. This is the time to do some reflection on your marriage. Instead of questioning and arguing with each other, find the appropriate

adesiflava.com

time, place when you can share with him your feelings. Find out what challenges he is facing at work. If he does not respond positively, encourage him to talk to family members or seek help through counselling. If he keeps abusing you physically and emotionally, warn him that you may take legal action.

Question 2:

Hello Aunty, I am 24yrs old resident in HK my name is Alisha I was dating a guy for the past 2 yrs and everything was going well, but suddenly he left me and started saying that his mom is not accepting our relationship so, he cannot move forward if she doesn't agree with it. I feel betrayed by his decision since I am so much in love with him but now he has blocked me on WhatsApp etc. Pls, help me?

Answer 2

Dear Alisha, Unfortunately, the new romantic relationship often drives two close friends apart. See from his perspective, maybe his mother is the reason, at the same time it is obvious that his love doesn't carry any weight.

AUNTY MVP

Volume 7 | Issue 5

I understand your feelings especially when you have loved someone, and he has ditched you. As you feel betrayed, you can reflect on the worthiness of such. Look at it as "good ridden of bad rubbish" Move on with your life, you may find a right person who values your feelings and bonds with you in love and understanding for the rest of the life. Best wishes

Question 3:

Hello Poonam Aunty, I am Manvi (HK resident) I read your write-ups in the magazine, I am amazed by your solutions for the question that people ask, I have a question regarding my son who is 10 yrs old but doesn't want to study and is always busy with electronic gadgets. I am concerned about him as the world has become competitive and he needs to focus on academics as well. I hope you'll give a good solution to this matter??

Answer 3

Dear Manvi, Thank you for your kind words of appreciation. I will try my best to solve your problem. First of all, are you

on what's app chat indefinitely? If yes, does your son question you? Remember mother is the first school teacher, you are a role model to your son. When you bought electronic gadgets did you put down some house rules? However, it is your responsibility to be available when he is around, keep open communication, listen and engage him in any activity of his interest. Explain to him the consequence of using these gadgets. As for academic, share with your son the value of studies, appreciate his capabilities and abilities. Sit together and prepare a study schedule, during that time no phone or TV. Monitor and be consistent, reward him for his good behaviour. Good luck!

Question 4:

Hello Aunty, this is Renuka (Name changed) living in North Point and I am 20 yrs old I am putting onto much weight and is affecting my confidence I have visited many experts, dietician etc. But nothing seems to is work. I have even stopped socializing

33

I hope you can understand my pain. Pls suggest a good solution for me so I can relive my life.

Answer 4

Dear Renuka, I understand your pain, sometimes the hormones in your body change. Because metabolism tends to decrease with age. Women in their 20s may find it less difficult than older women to effectively shed pounds. However, a reducedcalorie diet and regular exercise program are still essential for you to effectively meet weightloss goals. Follow a healthy diet, reduce calories, increase protein and fibre intake they help shed pounds because they help fill you up and increases energy. Say no to junk food. Exercise regularly. In addition, create your positive image it will enrich your selfesteem. Maintain a good attitude towards yourself as our physical and mental health is very important. Isolation can also cause weight gain. Socialize yet ensure you eat healthily. Don't feel ashamed of yourself, this will pass in time. Stay happy.

Meditation What, How & Why?

By Maa Amrit Leela

What is meditation? Any moment lived in harmony with our soul, mind and body is meditation. It means we live that moment in its totality. A painter painting in his complete awareness is meditation, a mother cooking food for her family in utmost love is meditation. Sitting, chatting or praying is of no good if not done in complete awareness. If you are praying without mindfulness your prayers would not be heard instead shopping with full eagerness would be more

fruitful. An act which makes oneself cut from the outer world and connect to one's own inner self is meditation, it does not give the feeling of solitude but rather leaves one elated and overwhelmed. Once we turn inwards meditation starts.

“Every word send in awareness is a message.” “Every thought in awareness is a vision.” “Every work done in awareness is creativity.” Why meditate?

The life we are living is very mechanical, running round the clock with stress and competition. Our minds are occupied 24x7 but we try and chill on the weekends, these unfulfilled desires and repeated actions tend towards

anxiety which later turns into depression. Meditation is the one and the only solution to all these problems, it not only heals but also helps in focusing toward achieving our goals in a better way.

How to meditate?

Spiritually, humans can be segregated on three levels: physical, mental and spiritual. 1.  Physical level: Humans which are more connected to their body need physical catharsis to relax and connect with the deeper self. Ancient history calls this YANTRA, which is given to such people to use and meditate. 2.  Mental level: People who are connected to their mind need mental

catharsis, so they are given a MANTRA to chant, relax and connect. 3.   Soul level: People who are connected to the soul are given TANTRA technique to merge with the higher self.

Meditation differs from person to person but Yes, one basic technique of balancing one's breath can be and should be practised by one and all. There are 112 modes of meditation and one can adopt any of them depending on whichever one finds comfort in.
