New Literacies Bridge Text Explanation 1. My literacy lesson incorporates critical thinking amongst all the students that are participating. It is a very complex video and is great to prepare the mind for a following lesson. It helps them engage in teamwork while working on their social and literacy skills. By engaging the mind with group work like this, it is a great lead up activity. 2. I believe this could help scaffold the students understanding of the content by doing something that is hands-on. This gives kinesthetic learners the chance to physically work and get the opportunity to participate in the activity. The video also gives visual learners an example of how the process is completed and what technique is used. Auditory learners also benefit by the video giving a visual and aural explanation. This can help students read a more difficult text by stimulating their mind and thoughts through the activity. 3. Students will be engaged through the video by actively participating in the activity. This works great as a bridge to the traditional text by doing something that is more enjoyable to start a lesson rather than just jumping into the traditional individual or group text reading. Being able to get up out of their seat and move around is a great technique to use to enhance the learning and attention of your students. 4. If for some reason the technology would fail, I would allow one person per group to display the video on their phone via YouTube. If this was also not possible, I would visually demonstrate to the class with the assistance of other teachers or students how the activity is done and the rules that go along with the activity, since there are quite a few of them.
