Student Feedback “Seeing the different classrooms at different schools was very beneficial. It was nice to witness how different teachers operate and handle the students as well as how the students respond to the varying instruction types. It was also beneficial to be in one classroom for three straight weeks. It meant that I was able to learn the kids’ names, interests, and where they were academically.” -Beth
“I loved having the opportunity to be in both the middle school and high school—it made this semester more of a ‘decision point.’ I also liked that we were there for three weeks straight; this gave us more context to what was happening in the classroom at the time we were there and helped us forge a stronger relationship with the students. I also liked being able to see snippets of diverse classrooms so that I could better understand how to reach a larger variety of students. I enjoyed the daily sessions because it gave me a better idea of what each faculty member’s role was, and opened me up to other potential career paths I could take within the school.” -Tara
“One major benefit of STEP is having the additional experience of being in multiple schools. I feel more prepared and confident with this additional experience. I also think that the employers I have interviewed with value this experience more than the intro class or the previous Phase I format.” -Alison
Learning From One Another What formats of (& how many) internship/field experiences do your undergraduates experience? What is your program doing to foster a diversified preservice teacher experience? What does collaboration look like between your schools and universities?
