Does it ever occur to you that we seem to be living in a time of instant gratification? We seem to be settling in what we can get so fast for the quick attainability of happiness and contentment. And love seems to be losing its essence day by day because everything comes in a click of a mouse and a tap of a finger. That appreciation means having your picture liked and deeper appreciation means having someone scroll through photos and words you’ve posted. It’s a little creepy, yet if not most, then some of us tend to consider it an act of thoughtfulness and admiration. Love is fleeting. The ADHD Team

Jaycee: More of a monotone-ish, minimalist kind of style and I love Asian girls’ face, so yeah. :D Tokwa: I really don’t like describing my art because, I really don’t know? I always answer this from the common consensus of the people who are familiar with my work. How did it all start? Michael: It was a personal project. I woke up one summer morning with Mick sitting beside me (being all creepy) and she brought up the idea of us collaborating. A few minutes later, we had our instruments set up inside my room and we started writing. The timing was perfect with me having just graduated from college and Mick finding herself in between jobs. Apart from having more free time than usual, we were both in this transitional period that allowed us to go off on a tangent.

Michael: It came from this book called Five Miles from Outer Hope by Nicola Barker. Outer Hope is a real place in England. One of the first tracks we wrote called “Five Miles” was alluded to that reference. Micaela: It also stemmed from the idea of making music with just whatever we had, which were two instruments, a keyboard and a guitar.

Who are your musical Micaela: The idea was just, influences and how did they simply—and naively—to affect your music? make a record. Micaela: You absorb certain aspects of your favorites throughout time, or unknowingly select things to retain in your head, musically. I think I’ve always kind of stubbornly wanted to go my own way but the influences are there subconsciously... it’s hard to say what or how exactly. Have you always seen yourself doing this kind of thing? Michael: It was definitely something I romanticized in my head from a very young age but there was never a concrete plan to become a musician unlike taking clear steps towards finishing school or finding a job. Micaela: Me too. I daydreamed about it all the time but never thought I would pursue it seriously. Growing up, I was pretty

I’m always interested in chord building and layering, and the inbetweens, and different ways of building a song. Micaela: Before Outerhope I hadn’t performed in years, not since high school singing in a choir or singing the national anthem or something. I guess I’ve been on stage in the background playing keyboards or backing up someone. But it was the first time for me to play songs I had written. So yes, absolutely terrifying like a dream where you suddenly lost your clothes. If your song ‘No end in sight’ is going to be used as a soundtrack for one film, What film would it be and why? Michael: I used to frequently stare into

space as a kid and that somehow carried over into adulthood...I get stuck in my head and Mick is usually the one that nudges me out of it. We would not have started writing songs together if she hadn’t literally dragged me out of bed. Micaela: Today I fell sort of head-first in the snow (we are in Montreal visiting our brother) because I was being foolish and talking too much, and Mike picked me up by the armpits like a child. Haha. I guess that sums up our whole dynamic.

Want

by Nico Pascual

Under the linen sheets, the curvature of your cheek bristles at the thought of my fingers. You – inverted like a question mark bend yourself unconsciously wanting the press of my lips, it’s wet to coat the skin that is burning, breaking, into shivers of desire – the sweet nectar of imagination. But in reality, I haven’t even touched you, at least, not yet.

Love Letters To Yourself By Yourself by Cenon Norial III & Mav Bernardo

ON THE LOOP By Michelle Smith

The Smiths (The Smiths)

The XX (The XX)

May be overrated for some, but this would account as one of the freakin greatest albums of all time. Not only does it stir political sentiments, this album is so meta-phoric (pun intended) that it oddly strikes our hearts whenever we hear it.

Basic words. Subtle lyric attacks. Extraordinary impact. Tell me otherwise and I’d smack you down. Just kidding.

The Postal Service (Give up; Singles) I think we can agree that Gibbard is a poet. Alright, fine. Probably because some of us, at some point in our lives, have been guilty of tagging phrases of their lyrics to our facebook/ twitter accounts.

Alt J (An Awesome Wave) Indirect messages embedded in every paragraph— Alt J lingers in your bloodstream, making you come back for more. They remind me of my knack for screamo/post-hardcore (i.e. Saosin) bands back then, only this time it is much fluid, mature and Grammyworthy.

Michael Jackson (All,exceptF arewellMySummerLove&Xsc ape) He certainly had his way to our hearts. Also an indescribable way to our dancing shoes. We may have a specific experience with him, we still end up singing and dancing along once we hear a familiar tune of his, which makes him an icon.

BEYOND THE REEL

HAPPY BIRTHDAY A review of Plum Blossom By Jed Gregorio Plum Blossom (Kwak Ji Kyoon, 2000) is about introducing oneself to the class, bike rides, one’s first kiss, making out on a patch of grass, a girl’s soft lips, her skin like milk and her scent that’s only hers, masturbating while drenched in sweat and the faint glow of the moonlight, trains coming (also, trains leaving?), baggage, reading a poem and responding with a poem, seeing a friend die in front of one’s eyes (fainting in front of him and falling into a comma all day), endless falling snow, the blue

mountain, avoiding the first girl you’ve ever fucked, long and deep sleep, best friends, rowdy highschoolers, roasting what’s most likely domesticated poultry on a camp fire on a cold night, Chilsung cider from a vending machine, being undressed by a girl, seeing her undress, jumping out of a window, fucking in a greenhouse, being told to wait, leaving the girl you fucked, a traditional ceremony one may or may not understand, not one’s first kiss but something

that felt like it, being told “Let’s just forget what happened”, screaming, being told “Screw you and all your ambitions”, cutting, a girl’s room (a teddy bear on a stool, a shopping bag from what is most likely a recent purchase, lace curtains, yellow light), superstition or faith (“If someone sleeps on lilies they will die.”), suicide, waiting, the first snow, a medical checkup, one’s name being called out in a waiting room, how it’s so much more fun to talk to someone else than to talk to oneself, college, being sick of everyone (not necessarily everyone in college, but just everyone), dancing, there being only one person left (not on the dance floor, but elsewhere),

a Don McLean song, a Roberta Flack song, summer clothes, a phone number on one’s palm, the same places (all at once dim, bright, happy, sad), one’s hometown, more conversations indoors soaked in sunlight, Werther and Goethe being dead (but we’re still alive), waterfalls and jumping from cliffs, daydreaming on a rainy day in an empty room, a library (not the empty room), tiny hills, not wanting to sleep alone, pink sheets, staring into space, fast food, being asked why one has to make money, surprise visits, being asked “Are you also hurt by your past love?”, tears over pastries, confessing “I’ve been floating like a ghost”, being

told “Go back and start over again”, a restaurant with pale blue walls (or green—or is that someplace else?) and harsh light, neon lights on an alleyway at night, running, running backwards (being all right), blue nights, a birthday song, a confrontation, how someone who gets hurt always hurts another, congratulating her for getting into grad school, a mountain trail, the same waterfalls, the same cliff, jumping again (now alone), everything being all right (like an incantation), ashes, dust, hope, nothing but a coward who cannot love, a telephone call, coming back.
