Azimut|Benetti Group Vice President Giovanna Vitelli
B
uoyed by excellent sales in spite of the unprecedented challenges of the global situation, the Azimut|Benetti Group looks to export success and Italian Style to launch the country’s recov-
ery. Azimut Magellano 25 Metri and Benetti Oasis 40 Metri set to launch before summer “We are fortunate in that we are not only a strong company but also have substantial credibility at an international level. We want to draw on this as we play our part in upholding the precious ‘Made in Italy’ values and demonstrating that our country is on the road to recovery”. With these words, Azimut|Benetti Group Vice President Giovanna Vitelli announced the restart of production in the company’s shipyards. Being ready to return immediately to full-time capacity, with increased shifts to make up for the lost weeks of production, is merely the tip of the iceberg of the organisational and commercial strategy put into place that has enabled this to happen. Ten days into an easing of lockdown conditions, as Italy cautiously searches its way forward, Azimut|Benetti Group management reflect with satisfaction upon how they were able to employ the group’s trademark dynamism, creativity and innovation to adapt to the challenging situation of the past months. “We never stopped” explains Marco Valle, CEO of Azimut

number of boats being managed to 46, as well as providing accommodation and support to captains and crews in Livorno. On top of this, we ran 15 training webinars for leading brokerage houses around the world. The enduring assets of the Azimut|Benetti Group created the foundation for this success: strong, prestigious brands, a solid commercial structure with a deep-rooted level of trust among its clients and a history of continuous investment, not only in the area of production but also in digital technology and working practices. Franco Fusignani_CEO Benetti held us in good stead, allowing us to close contracts amounting to 30 million euro in orders, helped in no small way by our proactivity in geographic areas not yet affected by the pandemic. This enabled us to continue with our exports which is, of course, a key lever for Italy’s economy. At Azimut Yachts we also ran 17 interactive online courses on subjects ranging from technical to marketing and sales, and these involved 236 people throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Far East.” Franco Fusignani, CEO at Benetti, expresses similar satisfaction: “It hasn’t been easy, but we managed to keep business going with no serious setbacks. Thanks to our facilities being located in different regions of Italy, we were even able to continue with production focussed on April and May deliveries and at the same time ensure maximum protection levels for our workers through the adoption of all the safety procedures, enabling us not to have any Covid cases at all. Our refitting company Lusben closed a number of contracts to take the total
This commitment to the digital landscape made the development of the Azimut Yachts Virtual Lounge, an innovative new digital platform, possible in record time. Launched in the first week of May as a hub of technical, inspirational and training materials, it will also host the inaugural Azimut Yacht e-Boat Show from 27 to 30 May, featuring Live Chat sessions and one-to-one video appointments with sales and technical specialists from the shipyard. The return to full capacity has been aided by a sixweek process behind the scenes to ensure the safety of all employees, working closely with union representatives who have described it as “an innovative and forward-thinking example that sets the bar for other companies”. As Italy looks towards an unusual and uncertain summer, there are positive signs of the country’s creative and productive renaissance with the launch of the much-anticipated Magellano 25 Metri and Benetti Oasis 40 Metri, completed in record time despite the challenges of the past months.

he Vitelli family and the Azimut Benetti SpA Board of Directors are pleased to announce an important change in the Company’s top management team. On September 1, 2020, Franco Fusignani will hand over responsibility for the Benetti Division, at the age of 75. Marco Valle, who remains in charge of the Azimut Division, will take on the role of Group CEO with full responsibility for both Divisions to ensure integrated business management. This decision will encourage an organic and unified approach to business management, benefiting effectiveness, rapid response and efficiency. The intention to preserve the specific characteristics and values of each brand, whose distinct identities form the basis of the Group’s success, will clearly remain a core target. Franco Fusignani will continue to sit on the Board of Azimut Benetti after September 1, providing his 50 years of working experience and offering all the support needed to ensure efficient management of the integrated business, the diverse product ranges, the separation of the two brands’ marketing and after-sales services, and the strengthening of their position on the market Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group Chairman, commented: “Marco Valle, who joined the company 25 years ago, has the full support of the Vitelli family and the Group’s Board of Directors in this new challenge, which he will no doubt rise to with the same spirit of success that has been a distinctive feature of his work, first as Azimut Yachts sales director and for the last four years as CEO of the Azimut division. We would like to thank Franco for the great work he has done and continues to do in Benetti, and for his continued future presence in the Group. This continuity is thought to be important to tackle the new challenges of an evolving market and generational change in the current management team.”

MC Marine stabilization systems continue their unstoppable global success story with the Italian company’s recent signing of an agreement with Stella Marine, the authorised sales and assistance center operating across Australia. CMC Marine is proud to announce an important partnership agreement concluded a few weeks ago with Stella Marine, the well-established Australian provider of integrated engineering, installation and construction solutions for private and commercial yachts. As a result, the Australian company established in 2003 joins numerous other service centers worldwide as a sales and assistance point for CMC Marine products. Stella Marine is headquartered in southeastern Queensland and already works on various assistance and distribution projects for the stabilization systems designed and built by CMC Marine, including the recent Waveless for yachts in the 12 to 40-meter range. One example is the STAB40 stabilizer fins that will soon be fitted to an Australian owner’s Falcon 86, while on the assistance side of the business, the Mangusta GS 54.01 is now undergoing periodical servicing of its Dualis and Stabilis Electra 160 electric stabilization systems by a team of Australian experts at the Rivergate Marina & Shipyard. Stella Marine CEO Gary Cooper said of the new agreement, “CMC Marine is a solid company with an interna-
tional footprint. The brand leads the superyacht stabilizer market and unanimous approval of its products has encouraged us to add this prestigious name to our already long list.” Cooper’s comments were echoed by Alessandro Cappiello, founder and CEO of CMC Marine, “Oceania is a very interesting market for the yacht industry and I am proud to consolidate our presence on the continent, providing yet another confirmation, were any necessary, of the excellence of Made in Italy products worldwide. Stella Marine is also a competent and reliable partner, building on long experience, widespread recognition and an extensive local presence.” The company led by Cooper represents various component brands and brings consolidated expertise to the area of stabilization systems. While on one hand this new agreement forms part of the brand’s unprecedented internationalisation process, on the other, following close on the heels of the agreement with the New Zealand-based service center Lighthouse Marine, it represents another step forward in its drive across this entire continent, which is of growing importance for the world yacht industry.
Benetti is proud to announce the delivery of the first Diamond 145 unit, the new Class category flagship that at 44 meters in length represents the perfect marriage of tradition and innovation. The impressive and imposing exterior lines penned by Giorgio M. Cassetta are matched by spacious interiors bathed in a contemporary, welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere and designed by Benetti’s Interior Style Department. With a fiberglass hull and gross tonnage of 469 tonnes, Diamond 145 has five cabins sleeping 10 guests and five cabins for a crew of eight plus the captain. At a speed of 11 knots, the yacht has a range of 5,000 nautical miles. With this project the shipyard speaks directly to owners who already have plenty of experience and awareness about onboard necessities: generouslysized spaces not only for the owner and guests but also for the crew, maximum silence, and build standards aligned with the yard’s traditional design culture.
A
chieving a balance between tradition and innovation has always been one of the goals of Benetti yachts, which have won the hearts of owners around the world. Class category flagship Diamond 145, launched in January and delivered in Viareggio on July 20, is one of the new models from the Tuscan shipyard that best embodies this difficult but fascinating combination. Traditional values are interpreted with deep respect for the Benetti family feeling and the stylistic hallmarks of the fiberglass yachts in the Class category, which are designed by famous architects and feature unprecedented luminosity and habitability. Innovation is evident in the amazing modernity of exteriors featuring essential lines, in interiors furnished with refined contemporary materials, and in the use of unprecedented construction solutions that improve comfort and its durability as time passes by using high quality components. Exterior lines: grandeur, elegance and light Diamond 145’s superstructural masses are refined and dynamic, the hull sides are high and the reverse sheer line is extremely long. The huge glazed surfaces created by the yacht’s exterior designer Giorgio M. Cassetta accentuate the yacht’s length and flood the interiors with natural light.
Cassetta, who is one of the youngest and best-known designers on the international yachting scene and has collaborated with the yard since 2013, commented on the results of his work by saying: “Diamond 145’s size offered the opportunity to develop an imposing vessel with a majestic bearing and highly contemporary detailing, combined with an approach to style that reflects the idea of a timeless yacht”. His work is driven by the desire to offer a contemporary take on the classic style that has made Benetti yachts famous all over the world. Created for an expert and demanding owner, Diamond 145 has a profile that exemplifies the revisitation of neoclassical style. The relationship between light and darkcoloured volumes encourages the notion of powerful, extended shapes, giving the yacht a look that is both majestic and consistent with the Benetti’s heritage. Teak, steel and glass bestow unprecedented sophistication on spaces reminiscent of an even bigger yacht, not least the outdoor stairway on the left side, which climbs seamlessly from the yacht’s point of entry to the top of the Sun Deck. Layout: boundless spaces for megayacht-style comfort
T
he layout has been carefully studied to emphasise and take full advantage of both exterior and interior spaces, ensuring the maximum convenience and an unprecedented sense of welcome. Crew and guest flows are devised to ensure maximum privacy, not least on the Sun Deck, which at 102 square meters is the most spacious in the category. On this deck, the space in the fore contains a comfortable sofa and a dining area with a table, plus a big relaxation and sunbathing area aft that can be furnished as required by the owner. The Upper Deck has a pool in the bow and contains the big pilothouse, with the captain’s cabin located next to a bridge featuring an integrated Light Bridge console, which has a carbon fiber structure that combines lightweight and strength. This particular solution is the fruit of the first collaboration between Benetti and Seastema, a leading player operating in the field of ship automation, navigation and onboard electronics in all the main sectors of the marine industry. The end result is improved visibility for the captain and crew, plus even more freedom of movement. And with the aim once again of maximising liveability in the wheelhouse area and the guest and captain’s accommodation, all electronic devices are located in a special storage area on the Main Deck. Amidships, a big living room with a dining table and a space for relaxing leads to the outdoor area in the stern, which is furnished with a table and a series of sofas. The expansive full-beam owner’s apartment covers about 60 square meters in the bow on the Main Deck. This exclusive suite has a big bathroom, a roomy walk-in wardrobe and a separate office area leading to the Master bedroom. In the central section of the deck, the day area is furnished exclusively with a series of sofas and low tables. The undisputed protagonist in every space remains the light, which literally floods into the Master and salon through the huge glazed surfaces designed by Cassetta, helped by a design feature that moves the exhaust trunks further forward than usual. This has made it possible to create a big bowed glass salon door that allows the light to enter and increases the sensation of indoor and outdoor areas flowing seamlessly into each other. The outdoor space that opens out behind the living area is furnished for long periods of total relaxation both at anchor and at sea. Full-width sliding glass doors in the transom open out
bon, burnished brass, various types of wood (particularly oak), and a wide variety of marbles (Grey Stone and Silk Georgette, for example), leathers and fabrics. The futuristic bridge, on the other hand, has a polished carbon finish that highlights the hi-tech beating heart hidden behind this “classic of tomorrow”. High build standards that reflect the “Obiettivo 50” design culture The design culture at Benetti has always focused on how to ensure that the yard’s yachts can be enjoyed as time passes, giving satisfaction not only to the first but also to all future owners. This mindset drives the yard’s engineers and designers to find solutions to construction challenges that not only improve comfort but also ensure its durability, that reduce and facilitate maintenance requirements by using components of the very highest quality and by introducing increasingly smart fitting-out techniques, and that make it easier to refurbish the decor in future years. Benetti recently decided to give this mindset a name: Obiettivo 50. A name that combines the desire to create the classics of the future, as well as the ability to build boats of the very highest quality that stand the test of time, without losing any of their charm, elegance and functionality. The effects of this culture are there to see as soon as you go on board Diamond 145. When at sea, the level of silence is quite simply exceptional and puts the boat at the top of its category. This has been achieved by making use of every available solution to reduce noise and vibration to the bare minimum: from a transmission system fitted with an elastic coupling and thrust bearings, to floating floor and bulkheads on all decks (from the Lower to the Upper Deck), the bypass electrovalve fitted to the engine idling exhausts, and soundproofing on the discharge piping in the main onboard spaces. Moreover, the complex Air Treatment Unit (ATU) has filters to remove dust and water particles and ensures that the air throughout the yacht (owner, guest and crew areas) is fresh and clean by changing it six times an hour.
onto an elegant beach area fully appointed with sofas and a bar, offering direct access to the sea. To amplify the feeling of being in touch with nature and eliminating the barriers between indoors and outdoors, the only thing separating the indoor and outdoor beach areas is a step just 20 centimeters high. This space can be furnished and used in different ways, as required, both at anchor and at sea. The garage area, which is completely separate from the rest of the yacht is positioned on the side to avoid interfering with the owner and guests, can accommodate a tender over 6 meters long, two three-meter jet skis and various water toys. The four double cabins with bathroom for guests, out of which two VIP cabins with double beds, and two cabins with twin beds that can be converted into doubles, are on the Lower Deck, as are the five cabins for the crew of eight plus the captain. Materials and furnishings: the appeal of modernity creates sophisticated and welcoming moods The interiors and exteriors are decorated with fine materials chosen to create a refined combination of lighter and darker shades of brown, white and grey, including car-
The fiberglass used for the boat’s exteriors, like all the models in the Class category, is finished with epoxy fillers and painted white to achieve outstanding levels of gloss and aesthetic finish, and to guarantee it stays that way over time. For the same reason, the steel on the deck is all hand polished, piece by piece. Inside, all decorative wall and ceiling panels are meticulously identified by a barcode and applied using the fitlock system. This level of attention to detail ensures the possibility of rapid repairs, as well as enabling future owners to refurbish the interiors more easily. Engines and range The engine room, with a separate Engine Control Room like on a megayacht, contains two 1,400 HP Man 12V engines, giving Diamond 145 a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 11 knots. Top speed is 15 knots and cruising speed 14 knots. The delivery of Diamond 145 confirms the success of the fiberglass yachts built by Benetti, with sales topping 300 units over the years, and looks ahead to a particularly lively season for Benetti, with various launches and numerous deliveries scheduled in the run up to the start of the autumn boat show season.

otoryacht, Crossover or Sport Explorer? Antonini Navi, the Gruppo Antonini’s new luxury yachting brand, presents the Utility Platform 40 – UP40 modular hull project, which can be adapted to build three different types of displacement yacht.
From the drawing board of Fulvio De Simoni, and in close collaboration with the shipyard’s engineering team, the UP40 is a 40-metre steel platform serving as the base for three different models – Motoryacht, Crossover or Sport Explorer – according to the superstructure chosen by the client. This solution, for which engineering work has already been completed, ensures faster delivery times and generous customisation options in terms of style and type. Simone Antonini e Fulvio De Simoni
Innovation and flexibility in shipbuilding have played a vital role in the history of the Gruppo Antonini. The same philosophy has been adopted at Antonini Navi, the group’s recently launched brand specialising in superyachts. “For Antonini Navi’s first project we decided to apply a construction method to steel superyachts previously used mainly for smaller fibreglass boats: we created a modular platform designed down to the tiniest detail, enabling us to start building the hull and choose the type and concept at a later stage, even half way through the construction process. This means that owners can personalise their Aldo Manna - Sales Director superyacht when construction is already underway, and not only the interiors but also, and most importantly, the functional type. The result? Maximum flexibility of choice but shorter delivery times, because the hull design and construction have already been completed,” said Antonini Navi partner and sales manager Aldo Manna, adding that “it’s a complex choice metre long steel displacement hull, with naval architecrequiring proven capability on the part of the engineerture, engineering and compartmentalisation designed to ing department, total synergy with a designer of excepadapt perfectly to the three different superstructures tional experience and huge talent and, lastly, major Motoryacht, Crossover and Sport Explorer - all designed investments in research and design, all of which Grupby Fulvio De Simoni po Antonini has in abundance.” The first UP40 the shipyard is working on has a 40-
Hull The hull is the first element of the Utility Platform. Over and above differences in terms of design and how they will used by their future owner, all boats built by Antonini Navi will have a hull with the same technical parameters and the same level of reliability, robustness and seakeeping. The shape is designed to render the interiors of each yacht as liveable as possible, while the waterlines will be extremely efficient to guarantee safe navigation while containing consumption levels and maintaining a high degree of comfort. In the case of the UP40, the strategy of giving the vessel large fuel tanks and a special focus on efficiency at sea will guarantee a “grand cruiser” range of over 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. The top speed will be around 14 knots and cruising speed 12 knots.
Design As we said, the three different superstructure styles will be used to produce three different models: an elegant and modern Motoryacht, a streamlined and essential Crossover and, lastly, a solid and multi-purpose Sport Explorer.
The award-winning architect and designer Fulvio De Simoni dug deep in his formidable experience to put into practice an idea that, when applied to the world of steel superyachts, entails highly complex procedures, also in terms of stylistic design. Fulvio De Simoni’s architectural priority was to create concepts with a design that was harmonious, balanced and innovative, but without being banal. Two linear main decks with no interruptions are connected by a half-deck housing the yacht’s only helm station.
The hull’s freeboards are extensive and flowing, while the cut of the bow is contemporary in style. The stern section is where the designs can be varied most to highlight the various concepts, which despite being very different share the same family feeling.
Layout Though the layout of each concept is common to the various models, the peculiarity of the whole platform is the ample scope for personalisation. On each yacht in fact, the interiors can be fitted out as desired, from the number and size of the cabins down to the smallest details, making the yacht fully customisable to reflect the owner’s needs and the model selected.
Delivery times Another of this project’s strong points is the huge reduction in delivery times. Having a 40-metre hull platform fully defined in terms of its naval architecture, engineering and construction, with the choice of superstructure left open, will reduce delivery times by up to 50%. So, from the moment the owner decides on a concept and signs the contract, the unit built to their specific requirements will be delivered in just 12 months.
Next Step The full design of the first unit is nearing completion, as is the definition of the three different superstructures, whereas hull construction will start up in September 2020.
